Pre-dyed leather can be a lifesaver when it comes to saving time and money on your projects. In this video, Chuck uses our beautiful 6-7 oz. Weaver Select Holster Leather to demonstrate how well a pre-dyed veg tan stamps, tools, and wet molds. Pre-dyed performs as well as a natural veg tan, without the costs, dry times, and fumes that come with dyeing leather yourself. Try using a pre-dyed leather for your next project!

Hey Chuck. Nice video today 👍 I am really liking the concept of pre dye leather. I use black dye on most of my projects. Im not a fan dealing with rub off, i spend a lot of time buffing it out. This will solve that problem. Just ordered some and can't wait to work with it. Thanks again. God bless.

Loved this, really helps with setting up the workshop as I have to keep jumping between projects, as airbrushing/dying which takes up a lot of space. Thanks for another great video Chuck and the team!

OLD LEATHER SMITH here. Great Job Chuck. Thanks. Suggestions, things I have tried, I use a blush bush instead of cloth, I have also found a tooth brush works great especially on the edges, an electric toothbrush leaves a very nice pattern, especially with Sheen, just some things I have tried in the past and use today. Again Great Job. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

I always wanted to see some examples with the holster leather, thanks! Question: Is it possible to dye the pre-dyed veg tan a dark colour (ie. I would like a dark mahogany border)? I am sure it will absorb dye to some degree, but would it look even, etc? Thanks for the videos!

Great review & demo Chuck; thanks! QUESTION: Do you happen to know if there's anything in the dyes used that should not be laser processed?

Just started, literally cutting first scraps today. Got a little tool set on Amazon. After I feel like I can cut and use the tools better I'm going to try a small project. No idea what weights or type of leather is best for what.

You came to the right place. Chuck has a video on choosing leather weight.

If you like doing it, I suggest buying proper swivel knife, good knives for cutting leather and if you do stamping or tooling, the more expensive ones leave a lot crisper detail. The differences between cheap and more expensive stamps is very clear once you try them.

Thanks Chuck but I have a question. In the UK every prodded veg tan I've tried has a coating. This stops it absorbing water properly. Import duty makes buying from yourselves difficult but I'm wondering if there is a way of tooling / forming coated dyed veg tan. Thanks.

I have a question: I'm OK with casing the leather BUT I like to add painters tape to the back so the leather won't stretch too much. How do I do this when the leather is damp? I can't do if when I wet the leather but I'm not sure whether the leather will hold the tape when it's damp. Thanks for your help.

Are you casing before stamping? And what about painting on it? Thanks for the info

All the leather he used was cased prior to filming and in bags near the beginning of the video.

Hey, really enjoyed this video. I was wondering if you had any tips/tricks on adding padding to leather, like for a shoulder strap or inside of a dog collar. I have a project in mind but not really sure how to go about padding it. Thanks so much and again loved the video!

you could add some foam inside with leather inner and outter and stitch it together

Ohh, I want some! Is it dyed deep enough that stitching holes don't show the lighter inner leather?
@burkhardt7372

Factory leather is drum dyed so it's struck through the entire depth of it.
