The Left AIC and the Visual System

The left AIC pattern is driven by sensory processing via the visual, auditory, and vestibular system, as well as ground awareness. When these systems alternate between right and left sides, we can maintain stability and non-compensatory movement. When our visual system gets "stuck", alternation no longer happens and the left AIC pattern can't be inhibited.

I just started watching many of your videos! I have vertigo, ringing in my ear, dizzy with a tick and tremors and left side body issues, achey and fatigue. I went to an ear doctor, he said ears were good. My primary said he thought it looked like parkinson's symptoms. A PT who does PRI was able to see my right eye was not tracking properly. A hat bill split in half helped test it. My left top molar is missing and a tongue depressor biting down on it, helped test this. Those two minut things put my whole nervous system and me into a state of relaxation and ease. A neurologist said I have cervical dystonia and wants to do botox injections. The hardest parts are; the chicken or the egg. Where to even start. Needing a tooth, and mouth splint,, prism glasses and add how much those cost coupled with a PRI program. It seems beyond obtainable to get these much needed fixes to feel better. The best way to desbribe how my body feels is iit is like ibeing stuck in a permanent fight or flught mode.

Oh my goodness, I’ve been struggling the last 18 months have all sort of issues. Vestibular, visional, muscular imbalances and slowly worked through to identifying Left AIC. Been working through postural restoration but couldn’t loosen up my left side. As soon as I watched you explain the issue with Tommy it’s immediately clicked. So I did abductor test you showed in the video and tight left side, simply closed my right eye wondered around the house and read a small note and re tested. Boom left side opened up. 🤯 This then made me remember in the past I have had ocular migraines in my left eye after long bike rides. It’s finally making sense now. Thank you for explaining this in a clear manner.

I really think this could be my issue. I had severe eye pain back in January where and became bedridden weeks. It then transformed into jaw pain so bad that I thought I had broken my jaw and even eye socket. I was rushed to the ER where i felt like my brain was out of my body and I was a zombie. They told me I was perfectly healthy. I then played in bed for many months with the most crippling neck and back pain and till this moment still have. I’ve been going to physical therapy for months but the issues never seem to get better. I ve gotten an MRI and that say I’m fine as well. The other day I put my “nighttime driving” glasses for playing video games at night when, for a moment, my brain and body felt like it reconstructed itself and I felt like I was completely straight again, but that only lasted a few seconds. I’ve had an MRI and XRays done but no results as well. No Doctor has found anything wrong with me and I feel lost at this point. Do any of these symptoms sound like an extreme result of this case? Can you give me any insight or private message? I’m only 23 and I feel like a victim of a severe car accident without actually being in one. Didn’t mean to ramble, I just want to live my life again. Any help is appreciated

Your channel is a life saver! Had been dealing with pain for my entire life. I think that what is even more encouraging the common pattern is that my left leg is a little shorter than my right, you can identify it easily cause my knees aren’t the same height. Also, what would you think about right and left eyes with the same number, but with also a cylinder only on the left eye which makes that eye seeing way worse. I already noticed my jaw is opening and closing with a weird asymmetrical movement so I’m checking that with my dentist. Oh and since i can remember i have this weird knot like a ball on my left lower back near the pelvis. I have a strong feeling that’s caused cause of stress from miss alignment. Thank you so much for all the information ❤️❤️

Watching all your videos, it clicked for me. All these “techniques” or “exercises” are there to do so That we can let our brain know, “hey! You can do this, look you’re in this pattern, don’t forget! It’s okay! You can do it! We are doing it now!” And then we want to continue doing that as we walk and make movement. We tend to lose it when we are out of the 90-90 or in position techniques.. because we are trying to reunite… reintegrate this pattern.. we lost it because our brain feels threatened or in now FIGHT OR FLIGHT. So we favor the right side of our body to fight off a threat. The question is, why and how did it get there in the first place, how did it not get back to parasympathetic and back into left stance, safe stance. That’s the big question. Trauma, dental, vision,maybe even spiritual metaphysical causes? Regardless.. our brain feels unsafe so we practice getting into safe positions to reassure the brain we are safe so we can integrate it into walking life. Maybe that’s why some people can heal and others need to make changes in their life, environment, relationships, because it can keep the brain BACK INTO feeling unsafe … back into old patterns.. but these techniques/exercises help us feel safe to make the change too. Thank you so much for Your videos and insights and deep thoughts!❤❤❤

Neal... Thank you for your videos! Question... Would using monovision contacts contribute to the AIC problem? For about 15 years, I have worn the right contact lens for near vision, and the left contact lens for distance vision. I am cross-dominant... right handed, left eye dominant. If wearing this arrangement for my contacts has contributed to my left AIC pattern, would wearing regular contacts in both eyes, or glasses, be a beneficial step to help correct the problem? If so, how long would it take to see improvement? I look forward to your answer and information!!!

I was to wear a patch over the right eye to train it to be stronger. Unfortunately as a child I struggled with this and had to wear correction all my life. Cataract surgery helped me to see better and balance the two eyes a bit. I’m thinking the corrective lenses you speak of and the patch idea was based on the same beliefs here. Thoughts?

oh my god. was shocked to read your comment. I suffer from this too. at least the last 8/9 years. the worse my pain / worse alignment, the worse my visions been getting - i think the "snow" is exacerbated by severe neck/jaw tension ..... all that straining has to contribute to the rapid decline in vision imo. I have severe TMJ (i am a singer/songwriter.. Who does pretty physical labour to support myself - improper form, overworking + health issues has wrecked me over a decade) the strain on all my neck/back/jaw caused me to get vocal nodules, extreme mucous which rendered me unable to breathe thru my nose, & gave me "tinnitus"/ cotton-filled ears; unable to hear, unable to sing/ speak (without getting 'laryngitis') unable to breathe! its been a long journey, years of therapeutics/ pharmaceuticals never solving my issues, to get here. sorry for ramble. maybe you relate to something. im curious. Do you have significant misalignment issues?? ( like that are obvious/ known to you) Ive just started seeing someone who works in pri, after seeing a bunch of Neals vids (thank GOD) & feeling like i completely lined up with that left AIC pattern/ L torsion. looks like thats correct for me. trying to determine whether it stems from jaw misalignment/ or pelvic tilt. i know i have both from many years of X-rays/docs/chiro lol. was told 11 yrs ago i have "slight scoliosis' curve to the left. my torso is rotated to left & one pelvic bone pops out more than the other (& i only sense my left canine, teeth are straight. no braces ever. but i remember in childhood my right canine shifting out a bit. and my dentist saying is was no big deal. teeth dont touch it though.) i have fibromyalgia (in addition to other shit) THE ONLY TIME I DONT SEE SNOW. is when i take my sleeping pill !!!!!!!! its the strangest thing... so ive has chronic sleep disorder since infancy.. Im sure the primary source of my ailing health.... anyway. a few years ago i started taking Zopiclone ( a non benzo sleeping pill ) the only thing of the many meds ive been on that has helped me sleep restoratively - I was shocked to discover, when this med kicks in. it loosens majority of my muscle tension & THE SNOW GOES AWAY. AND I CAN SEE. when did the snow start for you? was there an event that occurred and it started happening? or did is sneak up of you? I started wondering one day ,before i ever had heard of VSS, "man did i always see like this?" ive still not pin pointed the origin certainly. but im wondering too if its a side affect of misalignment. omg a novel. i wish you luck in your healing.

Hey Neal! I want to let you know that what you're doing is priceless and selfless. I really appreciate the immense amount of information you have shared. I am a speech pathologist from HK and I am treating a lot of TMJD. And I have taken the pelvsi restoration and postural respiration course from PRI. I am combining PRI with my fascial release technique to treat TMJ. Usually non of the techniques work for my clients since most of them are in PEC. Then I learned from you that i have to SOLVE THE RTMCC PATTERN so that they body can 'let go'. How amazing is this! I am just 'taking away their bite/ vision', then their HG IR increased immediately. Thank you so much for your sharing. Just that one of my friend wants to know the reference for 'our brain uses too little of our L eye', would you have one? I mean i am totally buy into what you said but my friend needs 'evidence'. I want to preach PRI like you as well. @@laugary7054 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemispatial_neglect It is more about what the brain is paying attention to, rather than the eyes. But in regards to the actual eyes, it's really no different than mono-vision: one eye is working more for distance, the other more for near, even though both are contributing to both. We don't want monovision. We want alternation. Also, the book I show in the video talks about it. The actual diagram that I draw is taken from a real diagram from a neuro-optometry text book. @NielHallinan Its funny with the visual system.. I have tried the thing with taking my glasses off, and getting WAY more flexibilty.. I tried the squad from earlier videos, and some other movement excersices from ZHealth... But thats all good, but If I keep my glasses off and take a walk, then it "nulls out", and when I then put my glasses back on, it reverses. So better movement with glasses than without. Is that because the visual system at first, as you mention, tries to use the peripheral vision, but when 15 minutes has gone by, it again uses the "long/narrow" vision? and then when I put on my glasses again, the vision has to adapt again, and then does the thing you mention with , not being able to see clearly in the long/ranged/narrow vision, and tries to mitigate with the peripheral vision?

@NealHallinan
@NealHallinan Год назад
I don't think scanning the road in the distance would be problematic. In fact, looking in the distance is the most relaxed state our eyes can be in. Looking up close is more problematic. Relaxing eyes is definitely a good thing, though. We find visual patterns usually when there is some sort of "pathology" in the body, excessive ranges of motion where they shouldn't be found.

Two questions: 1. Would it work to just have the person close their eyes? Obviously you can't do that when running, etc., but for testing and for a lot of the PRI techniques it seems like it would be pretty easy. I'm just curious if it's the prevention of the current pattern or the introduction of an alternate one that is really facilitating the change. And 2. My contacts prescription is L -4.00 / R -5.00, but I'm also stuck in left AIC. I even got a mandibular splint 3 weeks ago and am still seeing no change in symptoms (I'm going back for an actual PRI session later this week). Could you explain how this could happen despite being the opposite of what you described in case #1? Thanks!
@NealHallinan

I can and do have someone close an eye when I think the issue is of the two eyes not cooperating. Closing one eye can eliminate the rivalry and the body relaxes. It depends on what I'm observing from the individual. It doesn't change anything though because when both eyes are open, the rivalry returns. I'm not sure I understand what your second question is.
