me, laughing from even a further future as Critical Role are now known as supreme leaders of intergalactic civilization, lead by a wise Grand Poubah de Poink of this and that
I still think we should continue funding, even after the last stretch goal. What reaction would people give our fandom if we completely brokekickstarter records? The highest amount ever raised on the site was...what, around 16mil? We got 2.5 mil in a few hours.
Also critters: what do you mean briarwood arc? We want to see arkhan’s moment. The one where he cuts off vecna’s hand. Yeah, can you make it until there? We’ll give you more than you think we can give.
This might be a smart metaphor for doing this project together. You must have heard "getting in the bed with X" as a metaphor for partnering with someone.
He won’t. He will probably voice some important pre existing npc’s, but will likely employ other voice actors (maybe CR cast members) for most characters.
Early campaign days: Laura: "So we've got some shirts in the store for you guys, just trying out-" Sam:" Aaaand they're gone." Today: Everyone: "Alright guys we've trying to fund this really cool animation series. The kickstarter's open for 45 days and we only need 7-" Critters: "Aaaand it's funded." I love this community, and I love you guys, thanks from the depths of my heart to everyone that donated and everyone that's helping make it.
It’s a lot of fun to go back to the early episodes and see just how earnestly surprised the cast is about the community’s generosity. I think one of their earliest gifts, other than G&S subs, was pizza. They’ve never lost that humility, that sense of gratitude.
Not just a nat 20, also has +18 to charisma and dexterity modifier and a +12 to proficiency, using the expertise feature of a rogue or the prodigy feat in xanathar's guide. Currently stands at over 3 million. HOW IN LARKIN'S NAME????!!
Just gonna point out that they changed the song's line from "They got falchions and cunning" to "They got daggers and cunning". LOVE that attention to detail and continuity. Dagger Dagger Dagger!
It’s January of 2022 and it’s so insane watching this. The kickstarter was so successful that the animated special turned into an actual tv show on Amazon prime with voice actors like David tenant and Stephanie Beatriz that is coming out in just a few days. The power of nerds is incredible
I remember going to school and sneaking my phone to watch all 3 episodes that came out every week. Coming back to this and seeing how huge it became made me happy that I funded this! (Although it was only $10) Can't wait till season 2!
All I can think about is how things got here so FAST! From me sitting on a convention floor with about 50 people watching them have what I believe to be their first panel back in 2015, to THIS in 2019??? I am so HAPPY AND PROUD
2 million has been smashed in less than 4 hours. There have been stories and pages written by both IGN and CNBC, Fortune, Variety, and Several others.. IN LESS THAN 4 HOURS OF THE $750,000 GOAL. Pretty sure that media companies regret their decision already. NOT ONLY THAT BUT THEY BROKE THE KICKSTARTER RECORD FOR FASTEST 1MIL MARK FOR ANY ANIMATION/TV/MOVIE KICKSTARTER EVER. Now after the first day it has reached 4.5Million
@@classicfrog80 It was previously held by the Veronica Mars movie. not sure on amounts or speed though, but several reports on it are saying this record was beat
Critical role cast:"we're gonna make an animated special!" Fans: "you mean a whole animated series right?" Cast: "well no we cant afford th-" Fans: "nonsense, heres eleven and a half million dollars"
"...750,000 is a big risk that studios don't want to take..." *checks kickstarter page* Um guys, you're at 2 million already. I wonder which studio project manager is getting fired for saying no. I bet you'll get calls from the huge animation studio execs within 48 hours. Do not dance with them. Stay with us critters, as we've shown, we will support you. Stay independent.
Colin Deal i see where youre coming from, but realize that there have been plenty of popular things over decades that have tried to branch out and failed. They probably said "lets see what happens. if 'studio X' says no, well hit kickstarter". Either way, we are getting a VM animated show/short film and i couldnt be more excited!!! Critters just cast a 3 million dollar guiding bolt, up the butt!!
Yes, but think how big a draw this will be now. Seeing such a surge of support could mean that some of these companies could be looking a lot more interested at this, and now Critical Role has a far stronger negotiating position. I wouldn’t be surprised if execs at Adult Swim or Netflix are watching this and would be willing to fund something to go on their platforms, giving creative freedom to the cast because of this showing.
taliesin sleeping like the true executive goth he is. liam and sam spooning. matt holding hands with everyone. marisha in a ridiculously uncomfortable position. that one scene cured my depression and watered my crops.
It's been two years since you have posted this comment. How are you feeling now? As excited as I am, because I can't wait, but I'm patient, because quality over quantity.
I love that half second bit of Scanlin trying to walk away when they get to the Glabrezu followed by Vax grabbing his coat and stopping him without even looking.
I remembered this comment from three years ago. Today! Your wish has been granted! (Kinda) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vHWaS9Xjhcs.html
This video has been up a hour.... it's been backed for over a million already. Rome may have not been built in a day. But sure as hell it was funded in under and hour.
@@mile_high_topher Gathering forth all your knowledge and power from within you a powerful bolt of cash rockets through and utterly destroys the stretch goals!
@@dallascimini3619 They were supposed to have a meeting about it today. They mentioned last night they had other stuff they're going to roll out as the campaign progressed, and they are still going to do those. Right now I imagine it's mostly just processing how much, and how quickly they had the stretch goals crushed. Officially as of 7:40 pm EST the Kickstarter is sitting on $4.6 M+. I'm already amazed, and excited for whatever is coming next. Just be patient with them as they figure it out.
From what I hear they had some people who were interested, but the folks at Critical Role decided they could keep to their roots a bit better with crowdfunding, and not have to make any compromises with what they create.
Still amazes me that this started off as just a home game for Liam's Birthday. And when they did start broadcasting they were surprised that fans wanted to send then delivered food when they played and then more amazed that they sent them gifts and made fan art.
You know, I had no doubt the goal would be reached within a couple weeks, but having it more than DOUBLED in a matter of hours?? This community is god damn amazing.
This community also seems to have a LOT of disposable income! I mean, almost 4 millions from over 30.000 backers means over $100 median from each backer! And you can see the numbers tick up almost by the second!
*raises hand* And honestly (it's okay if people disagree with me here), I am SO happy they went with Phil Bourassa's character design in the end. My biggest issue with the first look that we see here is that the twins looks very different from each other. There are smaller things as well like Percy's haircut, and Scanlan's overall design that looks incredible in the final animated episodes and even though I remember LOVING this animated kickstarter trailer, it's amazing to see how far they've come. The endresult is a truly stunning piece of work and you can tell how much time and love went into it. ❤
1. TV companies still underestimate the power of the internet 2. It's their main goal to make a show that will bring in profit (ie, they prefer a show that can be made for cheap, allowing for a bigger profit margin)
Something I've learned running a business on my own, NOBODY wants to fund a project you don't have experience with already. In our first year, we solicited sponsorships and the only answer we heard was no. Now that we've proven we can generate buzz on a shoestring, the sponsors come to us. Hopefully their experience is the same!
It goes to show the power of the internet which is what people underestimate way too much. Look at all the RU-vidrs who have funded and donated to amazing charities and people who have found their biological parents, etc.
@@katiemechenbier4172 In this case I don't think lack of experience or lack of a reputation is the problem, but rather the concept in of itself. MSM and PM still hold this stigma on D&D, believing it to be too niche to profit from.
$400 pledge gets a Vox Machina canvas messenger bag? But what about the great canvas shortage of 2018? Edit: Whilst I'm up here I just want to congratulate everyone at Crit Role and the Critters for raising fourfold the original goal in only 6-7 hours! Now just another 1074 hours to go.
Meanwhile in the Kickstarter Serverroom: IT Supervisor:"What is going on, are we under attack? What is causing all that traffic on our Servers?". Sysadmin gasping:"Critters!".
First of all. Proud to back this project and prouder to see the support it's got on DAY ONE. Second: Props for how Taliesin sleeps Third: Of course Sam is the biggest spoon and must by court ordered law put Liam before the rest.
@@miguelmora7564 Yes, it is very hard, especially with 2D animation. keeping the fluidity of the movements per frame can be quite a daunting task when in the process of creating an animation, whether it is 2D or 3D animation.
5:18 indeed. it's the penultimate expression of Scanlan's personality as well as Vax'ildan's personality. Also a nice meta nod to Sam and Liam's friendship. literal perfection.
Neo Magi Right? I didn't notice it at first since but since I'm so used to the Mighty Nein Opening I was able to catch the slight and clever change to the lyrics.
yeah after seeing them collect 11 million. they probably said no previously and now had to haggle with travis and matt to get them to sign for amazon and not netflix or a different channel. pure gold
Another thing that someone pointed out to me: Amazon owns Twitch (hence the Amazon prime ->twitch subscription thing) so really they're just sticking to their roots 😅

I love CR and the critter community! You guys rock!
WE DID IT IT'S FUNDED! Now the hard part: waiting for fall 2020. Stay healthy y'all. (Edit) You guys're right. Can't stop til we hit all the stretch goals and make this super enticing to the studios that waved it off. Hopefully a series can come out of this.
The Party- oh we only need enough funding for a 30 minute special Critters- gives enough funding for an entire season of television which in turn also gives Amazon enough faith to green lit a 2nd season months before the premiere *Task failed successfully*
@@jamesnoneyabizness5611 don't know those, make sure to steer clear of pickles this & next week and february will be a good month to eat mango's or drink anything mango related
Netflix actually revived a show due to a kickstarter that raised around 5 mil just in the time limit the kickstarter had first said show, so 6 mil in 5 days? I'm sure they're getting on this.
My ONLY concern for this was if the secured permission from WOTC for the creature designs and such. I sincerely hope wizards just gives them free reign for all that CR has done for D&D.
The highest amount ever raised on Kickstarter was just under $6 million. Crush it! Bury that record deep! We as a group can do anything, including making the number so high no one will ever come close. CR are our heroes and friends for a reason. Let's lengthen their reach until they can hug the world.
We've already hit all the stretch goals. Except the final one which is a question mark value. Maybe thats to entice the critters to keep pledging??? Either way, I feel we deserve more of a season rather than a one episode special at this point :D
