Ahh I thought they would have made it exactly like how it happened in the campaign.

@@clayman648 They mentioned that for the show, they limited each character's abilities in order to give them all an easier to understand niche. For instance, Scanlan never heals anyone in the show, because that's Pike's thing. Likewise, you'll notice Vex doesn't have any magic abilities in the show, either, because her niche is the badass archer. So suddenly giving her a spell to cast wouldn't make much sense; making her high was a brilliant way to stick with that, but still reference her talking to Trinket.

@@brucelee7782 it's like a game that you've played for years, many people catch feel for their characters. Also, they are good Voice actors.

@@darkrood This is an important point; everyone involved in this particular campaign is an experienced professional actor. Combine that with having played these particular characters for *years* at this point, and they know them very well, and are very good at on-the-spot touching or badass moments. Just take a look at how many of Percy's awesome one-liners in season 1 came directly from the campaign, for example.

@@Blazieth I always want the show to develop a bit more of Percy's " I am smarter to outwit this one" trait In the end, he even tried to recite some pact he had as an attempt to get Vex back from Lady death.

@@brucelee7782 to us and them this is not a game, its a story. And as stories have conflict, humour and intensity so do D&D games. Of course as a bit of a power gamer ( person that makes very powerful characters ) I aint saying the fights arnt fun ( cause they are ) but the main focus is on the enjoyment of everyone playing ( including the gm ) and story. Also if you try D&D I would play 5th edition as its most popular and straight forward. dnd beyond is a good tool to make ur character, pen and paper is very hard for new players and for people like me with dyslexia.

I am pretty sure this happens it a lot of campaigns too. Especially during some downtime.

Every single spell slot would be spent casting speak with animals and my cat getting progressively more annoyed.

I think 5he high scene is a combination of multiple evens. Also, I don't think they actually were talking to Trinket in the animated show, just hallucinating.

Because into adapting the series some things have to be changed. Magic is rather not explained in the show. It limits itself to just give the magical characters their magic and the other ones magic items that enhance their abilities. Also they're trying not to overdo the magical aspect even. For example taking away the earings they use to communicate in long distances (this was a change that affected the Jenga scene from S1 and they changed it so there's some telepathy between Vex and Vax). For the most part I believe they will not get too much into the information of how the magic works. It's better to assume you know a basic thing of DnD to justify how magic and being "tapped out" works. I think adding magic to Vex would convolute too much the story, create more plotholes and power systems when characters can't use their spells because it will go against the general plot and things like that.

@John Simth No, the definition of adaptation is not, "to create something different." The fuck, lol? The definition of adaptation with media is simply to adapt something from one medium to another. It is up to the one adapting the content to decide how to actually adapt it. Vox Machina, for example, is adapted this way to shorten a 400+ hour D&D game into a few 3 hour television seasons. That is why it's different, not because there's some rule that claims it has to be.

Nobody disagreed with what happens when something is adapted but because you're married to the categorically incorrect definition of it that you've come up with, you have no argument.
