That's cool. A Link to the Past was actually the first game of the Zelda series I ever saw, but I had no idea what it was called. I have a surprisingly great memory, so I recall the graphics and some sound effects.
A Link to the past is awesome, the world is one of the biggest, the dungeons give quite an atmosphere, there are tons of ways to interact with the environment, more than almost any other zelda game. The bosses are great, Hellmasaur, Blind, Mothula, Ahrgus, and so many others. I think I will go play it again, so many things to do. These glitches are all amazing and richen the gameplay.
Now here's something fascinating that someone I watch on _Twitch_ did with that Dark World shortcut glitch. If you go to the Cursed Forest after that and enter the dungeon _without_ the Moon Pearl, you can turn into Normal Link by getting captured by a Wallmaster. If you get a Game Over in the dungeon and exit, you stay as normal Link, the Light World music plays, and the Dark World map has the Light World icons!
Once I trigger a glitch somehow but I was never again able to repeat it. Starting the game, when it's raining ssome roads are blocked by guards. One time, I would talk to them and every time they would say a different line from the complete text in the whole game. I talked to them repeately and they said every line of dialogue in the game. Anybody knows about it??
This game is just so satisfying on so many different levels. It never gets old. I've never played turn style fighting games but I've watched videos of them. They look SOOOO freakin cheesy. I don't see where the fun part is? Computers fighting against, computers? No thank you.....Are there any other SNES games that compare to Link To The Past's format that are worth getting???
FYI, Skyward Sword actually does address the human characters, as humans! So that might answer your questions. Play the game already! As for glitches, here's another neat glitch you can do with Cuccos. Place a bomb anywhere on the ground and pick up a nearby cucco, just when the bomb is about to explode, throw the Cucco at the bomb. If you do it right, the cucco will travel through the explosion, and any solid walls next to it! You can throw the cucco into all sorts of impossible places.
Damn Mike you sure know lots of glitches in video games. You deserve a platinum medal saying: "King of exploiting glitches in video game history." You and James are true Video Game Nerds!!
I got this game just yesterday for Christmas and I already managed to pull off the cheat where you complete the game in 5 minutes, it's so awesome! I have played the game before on Virtual Console, so I do have plenty of experience of the game, I just felt like trying out the cheat, and it worked!
I actually discovered that the cheat to complete the game fucks it up! I appeared in the dark world non-human with no attacks, the weather was raining when meant to be dry, and some graphics were fucked up. I don't know if it is my particular cartridge. But no one try this cheat unless they want a faulty file. Other than that, I completed the game normally a few weeks ago.
Power Star Gamer I tried the glitch after watching this vid and I experienced the same thing you did. Oh and Zelda was also following me haha It was fun to fuck around with...
Mike/James, any chance of another zelda vid.perhaps majoras mask my fave zelda?!the younger generation need to know how amazing this title was.all the little storylines, the scary moon, the symbolism of the death of link- was pure genius and deserves more credit than it gets its a shame the impression I get that Nintendo wont rerelease it in HD as some would consider it too scary!
Shabz Khan majoras mask was fuckin amazing, the atmosphere of impending doom and the strangely peaceful acceptance of said doom vibe that comes with songs like astral observatory, they really just tie the game together great
I had 1000 Wii Points. I went to the N64 section of VC. I saw Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask there. I decided on Majora's Mask because I heard bad things about it and I bought it to see. I do not regret that.
Hold the direction button in the direction of the wall. However the "exploration glitch" as it is called has been updated, and can be accessed as soon as you get into the castle, allowing the game to be beat in less than 3 minutes.
In the village, stand at one end and throw the magic boomerang, then use the pegasus boots to run from it. Hit the wall on the opposite side of the village, making sure not to let the boomerang catch up. If done right, the boomerang will keep flying across the screen and can cut bushes for you.
You don't need to charge the sword to do the death mountain trick, as long a Link is facing the right it will work (I always did it by moving left then slightly moving to the right, but charging the sword probably make it a bit easier)
Because you haven't until the beginning of the game. More than likely it is similar to the Star Wars movies. Seperated at birth to prevent some random bullshit.
I remember skipping school with my friend, and waiting for his mom to leave for work just to play Link to the Past for the day. Authority figures be damned; Hyrule came before middle school.
@gaminggoddess85 I doubt it. You load a save, choose to start at the Sanctuary, and try to dash as fast as possible to a particular hole. If you're fast enough, you land in the Chris Houlihan room. Once second too late and you miss your chance. It's very consistent though - with practice, you can do it every time. Sounds like a secret to me. But it's also true that the room can act as a safe room should the game glitches up.
@piemaster4 True, You can always download a N64 emulator or any other old consoles and play any games anytime on your PC, that's what I do from time to time.
LttP is neat because it was the first to do a lot of the stuff OoT is credited for. for example, light world / dark world is parallel with young / adult link. having played OoT first, its awesome to see where the 3d things came from, and how well they reflect their 2d predecessors. this is coming from a game design standpoint, but if you really think LttP is anything but an improvement over the original LoZ, im curious what makes you feel that way
No, because in order to activate the game's flags to collect the 3 Pendants, Zelda has to be in the Sanctuary. Since she is removed from your team when you go into the Sanctuary, you can't keep her. If you try to progress through the game, you won't be able to, since the flag that "Link has "kidnapped" Zelda" wasn't set, and the old guy won't tell you where the 3 Pendants are.
If you do that first glitch with the moon pearl, you can skip getting the last pendant and getting the Master Sword. You can then do the glitch again to save that Frog near the Thieve's Village, you can skip right to the Tempered Sword. =D
Another glitch 1.go the Potion Shop where the hag is 2.use a bomb on the hag. 3.after take your magic powder 4.used the magic powder on her and press same time the button X for open the map when the effect of magic powder is on the hag and flash in same time. 5.return form the map and now the world is glitched and wierd. (sorry for my bad english.)
Mike , Great video . I've watched it a few times over the years . I've recently been throwing some Zelda glitch videos up mysel. Thanks for the inspiration
I remember renting this game as a kid, and just started out in dark world. I entered one screen right of the pyramid where there is a sign post and pushed against the border, suddenly Link jumped through there even though you're not supposed to. I could swim west to end of Kakariko (Smith's house location) but I don't think I could get out of the water and had to reset. I've never been able to reproduce this glitch ever, but it'd be interesting to know how it happened..
as somebody who has played all of these games multiple times, i spend a good 5 or 6 hours playing LttP last night, and ive gotta say, it hasnt gotten old, and it holds up just fine.
I had this game when I was younger, and sadly never beat it, but I can say that it is by far my favorite Zelda game because out of the original trilogy this one had the best story and action combined, none of the ridiculously long cut scenes that are in Zelda games now and, oh yeah, the pink bunny suit.
awesome video. I just recently started putting together some Zelda glitch videos myself! What a great game but still full of many glitches. Great work Mike!
My favorite glitch. You need 1. Pegasus boots 2. Boomerang or magic boomerang (magic one destroys the world.) What to do 1. Throw your boomerang at the other side of where you can run far 2. Run so the boomerang goes of the screen 3. INFINITE BOOMERANGS!
It's nice to have Mike in the show because when the Nerd is busy there are Mike's videos even though they're not peculiar as James' videos they're a lot of fun to watch.
Thanks for this video, I'm currently replaying this game and i had to use the magic mirror glitch because i forgot to get the moon pearl and lost my portal in the eastern palace. And i believe Link is Hylian, the long ears are just a resemblance to the elvish look.
@MandTplaythroughs I'm not surprised they fixed some of the glitches. They changed several bits of dialogue, changed one puzzle completely, and I swear most of the bosses are easier...
@TommyAK13 I wasn't being sarcastic. if you can get a copy of this game for the original system it was released for, ( which i'm pretty sure is the SNES ) and you sell it to the right person at auction they are willing to pay 3000 $ for it. there have been remakes released where link's hair isn't pink.
I remember that when I played through this I missed the red shield, so I was stuck with the small one until I found the final one. I had good times with that shield...
So what's next, Mike? The reset the game glitch in Super Metroid? The green gate glitch in Super Metroid? The glitch fest that has quality called Donkey Kong 64? How about the sketch glitch in Final Fantasy VI? What about using Rambi in other levels of Donkey Kong Country? How's getting the Mana Sword all the time in Secret of Mana? Glitches for Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask? The possibilities are endless for you, Mike!
I miss games having glitches that were appealing even acknowledging they were to be considered 'flaws'. Most games today provide plenty of glitches, but so few have worlds worth exploring to take interest in.
Hylians and Gerudos are referred to as "Human" all throughout the Zelda series. It's not to be taken ultra literally as if he were homo sapien. But regular Humans who aren't Hylian begin appearing more frequently throughout the series.
OMG! 5:20 My friend is holding a retro speed run tournament at our local library next month, and he knows that I'm a huge ALTTP speed runner so he wanted me to be in that event. Well now I'm gonna do this and let everyone just crap their pants! XD Thanks SO much for the awesome glitch! :D
I remember playing this when I was a weewee boy. I could NEVER get enough of this game. I never knew, however, that glitches even existed in this game, but when I found the "Double Zelda/5 Minute Game" tricks, it blew my fucking mind. Two Zeldas, and a whole adventure beaten in only 5 minutes....Damn, this was the easiest adventure Link has ever had. XD!!! He's probably thinking nowadays: "Oh~ how I wish these quests could've been done like in the early 90's....*sigh* Good times."
In OoT you are told that Link, despite getting a fairy, is not a Kokiri. Link is a foundling and the Great Deku Tree raised him. Later on, you get told that Link is in fact a Hylian, which makes sense, because Kokiri don't grow up.
Trying these glitches (well only certain ones) were well worth my time. I finished all 8 Dark World dungeons (& killed Agahnim making Ganon appear & put a hole in the top of the Pyramid of Power) before facing Agahnim in the tower of Hyrule Castle. After I faced Agahnim in the Castle Tower he drew me into the Dark World, I was told to head to the Palace of Darkness & to rescue all the maidens (already done) after my health & magic refilled, I just dropped down into the Pyramid to face Ganon.
Great stuff, Mike I didn't play A Link to the Past until I was 23 and I downloaded it from Wii Virtual Console, so it doesn't have as much nostalgic value for me as it does other Zelda fans but I really like the game, at least when it's not frustrating me with it's excessive difficulty.
You're not alone. At least once a day while here on RU-vid, I gotta yell "DAMN YOU BUFFERING!" because either the video buffers or the pre video ad buffers. I also hate when you can't skip ads.
I'll have to check. Also, I'm surprised that certain other things weren't mentioned which I'll cover... -During the ending (before the credits), you see it raining in some places including the desert. -During the credits, you don't see the normal background, instead it's glitchy. -When you play through the file where you got the early Triforce, Link & Zelda will be in the Dark World (he's a bunny but she's still human & it's raining). Can't do much but die (back to normal after that).
I miss James AVGN epsisodes, they were almost like tradition. I always took something special to eat while watching them. I know hes busy with the AVGN movie and all but I still miss those days, watching those hilarious and good episodes... BTW! Mike I think Link is an Elf/Human, same goes with Jak from Jak and Daxter if you've played those golden gems. Anyway Jak is an Elf/Human just like Link. The big difference is, Link isn't agressive and kill people like Jak do^^
I love the idea of showing off gliches but i could do without the douchiness. Thank you for the video. I remember being a little kid and trying to do speedruns before there was such a thing. Keep it up.
YOU are the legend of zelda mike, awesome glitches! I love this game too. When I was a kid, I had to mow lawns and save up money just to buy this game and I beat it quite a few times, very very fun. Wish I had known about these tricks then.....hell, I wish I still had a snes with this game. I got an xbox 360, ps3 and a wii to help keep me laughin' but not as much as James with you and the crew.
If you can make it to the entrance of a dungeon after using this glitch and then die, you'll actually start at the entrance of the dungeon as normal link (VERY useful for doing a run of the game without rescuing zelda using the walk through walls game genie code). Going to the dark world makes things SUPER glitchy, and since you cant get the flippers or use stairs on the overworld I'm not even sure its possible to beat the game without rescuing zelda.
I think the Dark World glitch only works before you get the Moon's Pearl, because I keep trying it, and I can't get the glitch to work. I figured I would try since I was up on Death Mountain, getting the Ether Medallion.
no, your saying to post on his own channel when they SHARE a channel, if you only come for james, THEN ONLY WATCH HIS, don't give him hate on his channel
"Right now i don't have the moon pearl, when i'm in the dark world link becomes a bunny." A few moments later. "Here's the tricky part. Now if you move just a HARE to the right..." Hooray for unintentional puns!
it differs. the nr.3 i guess is link to the past, thats for super nintendo( also knows as snes" 2 i think is skyward sword, thats for the wii. The third is ocarina of time, thats my favourite as well and its for the gamecube.
Ahh One of my favorite Zelda Games! I remember these glitches in a TAS for the games!! especially the when you skip the castle to the Triforce! I wonder if Mike can do a Kabal head glitch on UMK 3 in the next episode! also Lol @ Link dying when he got the triforce @ the End.
@RedSnyder141 i know for a fact he didn't figure out the ravine glitch, nor the blue shield, NOR the go through walls, but never heard of the bumper glitch...
Ahh Mike you forgot one. It's possible to get the Tempered Sword after defeating only the first Dark World dungeon. I guess it's not so much a glitch as it is strategic planing lol. And they didn't fix it for the GBA version :D Damn, it's nice having that sword for the 2nd and 3RD Dungeons early :D
