Mike Matei does a variety of glitches for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) Follow Mike on Twitter! / mike_matei #retro #retrogaming #nes #snes #jamesrolfe #mikematei #atari #playthrough #gameplay #gamereview
Actually, the whole "You can defeat ganondorf using a bottle instead of a sword" thing isn't a glitch. It's a throwback to A Link to the Past, where you can win the origin of all Zelda Ping-Pong battles using your butterlfy net.
The game shark for the GC version made awesome things happen all the time. Loved it. I used to own the Gold cart when I was younger, and actually remember doing some of the things he did in the video. It felt so cool to find shit like that by yourself.
2:02 You waited to be adult link in order to get the heart piece? When you're young link and have beaten the Dongondo's cavern, scale the area of Death mountain where you get your first magic attack. Once you have that, talk to gayboragaybora, and he will fly you to Kakeriko village. Specifically on top of the cow heartpiece building. From there, just drop down to the heartpiece entrance. Fuck up? Np. You can return to the annoying owl at any time.
This is definitely my favorite game to glitch in. Also, all of the glitches shown here work on every version (at least for N64, Gamecube, and Virtual Console).
Grey ones started when the box was Stamped with the "Game of the year" seal, about a year after inital launch, and had a LOT of the bugs fixed, such as swordless link.
Absolutely! Mike! Speak how this person says you should speak! Otherwise, we might all die of cancer, and it'll be all your fault for using profanity! *sarcasm off Either tolerate it, or simply watch something else.
yes, you can. you jump slash a cucco twice when you get there, fly from the staircase to on top, throw the cucco across to the other side, target it, jumpslash, the cutscene will play and when it finishes you'll be at the bottom of the well.
1. A brand new single-player campaign 2. Branching Story-lines 3. Eight player Co-op zombies 4. Futuristic setting 5. Revamped multi-player 6. Multi-team matches in multi-player 7. The elimination of kill-streaks which are now point-streaks 8. You can now create your own character in create-a-class 9. Live-streaming to RU-vid known as "CODcasting" 10. Zombies campaign and story I could keep going if I wanted to.
also, almost all of these glitches work on any version. the no master sword glitch can't be done the same way, but there are alternate ways to do it (involving a fishing rod) :D the other two N64 carts and the GC versions had a lot of bug fixes, but they sure didn't fix everything ;o
You can get the heart piece (1:50) earlier than that. When the owl flies you down from Death Mountain, he drops you on the roof of that house. After that it's a simple matter of jumping down.
The swordless link glitch works on every console: n64, gamecube, wii and even 3ds. It can be harder but not too much. To do it on every other console, you will need to master the teleportstion glitch as I like to call it ( see on youtube farore's wind out of dungeon glitch). If you can, go to the final battle, lose your sword at the final boss and don't forget to put a teleporter somewhere outside the boss room. If you did it right, you won't have your sword. Hope this helps ;)
That glitch is simple, just drop and recatch something (like a fish) in a bottle (so that the bottle will be in links hand as you walk around.) Then Z-target and do a backflip and hit bottle then another item before you land again. (Gotta do it quick.) One interesting thing to note is that if you use an item that link holds, like bombs or deku sticks, and you have more than 0, he will instead pull that item out and you can play it like an ocarina.
You can get the Lens of Truth before you beat the fire temple. Actually, you can beat the dungeons in almost any order as long as you 1. beat the Deku Tree first. 2. Get the main dungeon item before going to the next dungeon. 3. Beat the kid dungeons before beating the adult dungeons. 4. Beat at least one other adult dungeon before beating the shadow or spirit temples. 5. Go to the evil castle last.
The part with the cow and piece of heart can be done right after Dodongo's Cavern. When the Owl drops you off on the rooftops, you can jump down on the ledge.
Haha the bottle never came to mind for me. I always had fairies in them and never dared to use them in case I died, which happened frequently the first time around XD
You can get the cow heart piece when you're still young, too. Just pick up a cuckoo, then make your way to the house that's currently under construction (has a guy running back and forth on the outer wall of the building). Throw the cuckoo to one level above you, climb up, repeat, then throw it to the outer wall where the guy is running. Time it so you throw when he's turned and running away from you. Then quickly jump to the wall, grab the bird [to be continued]
You're missing a few. Superslide (and its variants), Bomb hovering (and variants) RBA (and variants) steal the rod, BoTW early, Shadow Temple Early, Door of Time skip, Get hookshot as a child, Skip first 3 adult temples, Light Arrows Skip, and my all time favorite, Wrong Warp to Ganon's Tower, which can be used to beat the game in a measly 20 minutes.
I always got that heart piece in Kakoriko village when the owl drops you on the roof after seeing the fairy on death mountain once you beat dodongo's. you can drop down on the ledge and can crawl through a hole to get it.
You can get out of the final battle with Gannon swordless without a gold cartridge too. All you have to do is get a fish in a bottle, have it in your hand, do a backflip and push the bottle and the sword in mid air, play a teleporting song and you're out.
I didn't need either. At the very top of Death Mountain you can find the owl who will offer you a ride back down to the village. If you take it, he drops you on top of the house with the heart piece in it. From there you simply have to know where to drop down.
you can also do the swordless link glitch by doing the steal the rod glitch, going in the water, exit the water, puase, un pause, destroying all your imaginary deku sticks, saving and then reset. when you load up your profile no sword will be equipted.
Well, that could also be due to a similar issue. Think about it; the only way you can use the net is by spinning around. The other frame of animation that uses that is the spin attack. So when you use the net to deflect Agahim's projectiles, the game probably thinks you're using the spin attack.
James said in other videos that Mike has helped him write some episodes. You're seeing AVGN in both of them because they both have that same kind of comedic style.
All of these work with grey cartridges except the "Swordless Link" glitch, which iirc only works on v1.0(gold) and v1.1 grey. I'm surprised Mike didn't include the debug screen and tilted-cartridge trick. Those blew my mind when I was a kid.
Actually the cow heart piece glitch works on the grey cartridge too. That or, as a kid, have Professor Tootsiepop (big owl) fly you down from the mountain and drop on to that edge.
with the caged heart piece, you can actualy get it as a child, after you defeat dadongos cavern and get magic fromthe great fairy, the owl will take you back down to kakariko and land you on top of the building with the heart pice. all you need to do is drop down on the ledge and get the heart piece.
It was a glitch in Ocarina of Time, but then the developers loved the glitch so much that they made it a traditional Zelda joke from every game after Ocarina onwards.
Well, yes. Its called the living dead glitch I believe. It can happen in other games as well, but I've seen videos clips of it happening in CoD. Because the lines of coding for living and dead bodies are so similar in FPS games, sometimes the games confuse the lines of coding, and thats how it happens.
Swordless Link is still possible in the other versions of the game, like the European. For that, you have to use the Ocarina glitch in the battle versus Ganon and then teleport you away. ^^
Beating Ganon with a bottle isn't a glitch, this could be done in previous Zelda games. Any item that acts as a "weapon" can be used, keep in mind that the game considers an item that interacts with another item through "swinging" as a weapon. Nets, Bottles and additional swords (Biggeron) all work in various Zelda games.
Even without glitches, you don't need the hookshot to get the heart piece near the cow. Just let the owl carry you down from the top of death mountain after you get bombs (and preferably the hyrule shield) and go up there. He'll drop you on top of a house.

The bottle is not a glitch, it's an homage. In a Link to the Past you could defeat Aghanim with the Bug Catching Net. In Link's Awakening, you can defeat Aghanim's Shadow with the Shovel. I'm sure there are more but I can't remember them all. I think there's one in Wind Waker as well for Phantom Ganon.
While not all of these glitches are availible in later versions, some of them are. For the ones that aren't, there are other glitches that make most of them possible. For the Swordless Link glitch, if you're on 1.1, 1.2, GCN, or Wii VC you can do a glitch called the "Ocarina Items" glitch which allows Link to turn any item into an ocarina. If you play a warp song, you can leave the battle and you will be swordless!
Hi Mike, great video, however I wanted to point out that you can aquire the heart piece in the cow cage earlier as Child Link by talking to the Owl on top of Death Mountain. The Owl will offer to fly link down to Kakariko Village on top of the roof where the caged heart piece is.
Or, when you complete Dodongo's Cavern, after you climb the Death Mountain to the top and the big owl takes you back down, he drops you down on a building directly above the one with the entrance. Just drop there and walk.
Here is a famous one he missed. Go to any place with fish and equip a bottle. use the bottle like you are going to catch the fish but before you do open the menu and change the bottle for any item. That item will now become a fish in a bottle. You can do this for all the items except for the Fire Ice and Light arrow.
And as for Sonic Unleashed, I watched by brother playing it and it looks hard. Especially the Werehog stages. Those stages were grueling in that form. At least Sega was trying something new, but we all like Sonic's speed. That's what makes the games unique. I actually enjoy watching my brother playing Sonic games when I was three or four that's about 15 or 16 years ago. And I still enjoy watching him play to this day.
While not a glitch or a cheat, I use the Big Goron Sword to defeat both versions of Ganon. I just has so much more range. Just make sure you learn Epona's song before becoming adult Link and get it before even going into the Forest Temple. :)
Also, the gold one is the collector's edition I think, and it cost more at the time of release. Maybe it was a re-issue, I'm not sure exactly. Hopefully that answers your question.
There is a map in World at War that I like to call Glitchtown. I teleport outside that map, float in one area, walk through a car, I mean WTF. And in MW3 there's a glitch that you can have multiple weapons, as much as you want, at once.
I figured something out myself that works in all versions of the game. In the second dungeon, drop a bomb or bombs next to the either the Dodongo or Dodongo Larvae enemies. Walk a short distance away from them so that they don't go after you, and instead they'll walk up to the bomb you placed, eat it, explode, then die. This is most useful for the larger ones since it only takes one hit to kill them, but the downside is that you use up too many bombs doing it. Still, I found it to be cool.
You can't get the Lens until you can get to the bottom of the well. You get to the bottom by learning the Song of Storms, which is taught to you as an adult.
Big Goron Sword actually does less damage than the master sword. All items except MS and Deku Stick do 1 damage against ganon, while MS does 2 (4 with JumpSlash). So first cycle Ganon takes 10BGS hits but only 5MS hits (3 with JS). Second Cycle ganon takes 18BGS hits + 1 MS, or just 10 MS (5 with JS).
Glad you put the infinite gold spiders in here. My brother showed me that trick when we first got the game in '98, but I've never seen anyone else mention it! Rock on.
I hate how people fight over games, everyone has thier own tastes. And its pretty obvious that if your like over 18 you grew up with the snes n64 and ps1 and those consoles and games have a special place in your heart
You forgot to mention the glitch where you can go into the well before you even become an adult by throwing a chicken onto the edge of the well and do a jumpslash to the chicken before it runs off the well if done correctly link will bounce off the inside wall of the well and fall into the well and reach the bottom quickly swim towards the entrance and you'll start walking in.
I don't know that the first one works on every version, but everything else does, but getting swordless is a bit more complicated as you need to have a bottle.
No, gold card was just the first edition. They wanted to do somethign special for the first #D Zelda so it was a throwback to original Zelda (all those carts were gold to)
You can also get an infinite amount of bottles. To do this set a bottle to one of the c buttons. Now find a fairy or some thing you can catch like blue fire. Go to catch a fairy or blue fire and just before you get it in the bottle pause the game and put an item you dont need like a mask or after you get the biggorron sword claim check in the c button you have the bottle on and unpause. The rest or the sequence will happen. the item you chose will be replaced with a bottle. It doesnt switch back
there's a glitch that you can do in front of hyrule castle to make epona fall through the floor when you call her. you'll still hear her making noise but she'll be invisible
Very good Glitchis! But actually the fact of using an empty bottle the to defend the power balls from Ganon is not a fault of the game, but one more factor - the wind waker has a clue about it and also can be done!
you can get the heart piece before the hookshot though...without glitches. just beat dodongo's cavern and when kaepora gaebora (i hope i spelled that right) carries you down he drops you on top of that building. then just jump down to that little awning and walk in lol.
In the hyrule castle glitch, the one of the hole, if you bring a fairy bottle and do the same thing, you will die and you will get revived as normal. Though you will be stuck into the water FOREVER.
Remember that is a remastered version. Most of the glitches in the N64 version are removed in the 3DS version. I've never had the N64 console or the version of the game, but I have the 3DS version just like you. I also have Starfox 64 on my 3DS. Im collect and download retro games.
Some version 2 cartridges have the version 1 rom in it. It's easy to check which one you have. If you can do sworldess link even though you have the grey one, you technically have version 1. version 3 will not work though at all. Another way to check is by getting into the debug menu, which will have the time and day of release, letting you know which version :)
"The hoax attracted believers from all across the Zelda community; however, Jadusable has since revealed the story, on his site, as being simply an experiment in testing the gullibility of readers when presented with a story written and carried out in a believable form." It says it right in the Zelda Wiki.
these are all super well-known glitches o: huge communities have found them ^^ OOT is one of the buggiest games that I know of. zeldaspeedruns and jaytheham are good sources of OOT bugs, they're so fun to play around with :)
The cow caged up with the heart piece can be Obtained when u finish dodongo's cavern and go see the great fairy the owl will drop u on the roof where the hole is
there a crash glitch if i remenber when you are in the desert near the temple, you fill a small lake with the storm music,if you are fast and roll in the water youll go underground a bit, after some step the game menu will corupt because you are drifting slowly underground and the game will freeze.
