Just cleared the game yesterday. My first Zelda game ever was BOTW then went to TOTK. After clearing the two with almost 800 hour between the two, Awakening was a breath of fresh air. Such an amazing game!
Tomorrow’s going to be a busy day! Untitled Goose Game, Ni No Kuni, Links Awakening, and the official launch of the Switch Lite. I’m so freaking excited!
Brummie Key been paying off the switch lite and the games over time. Ni no kunis been announced for a few months and links awakening for almost a year. Plus I heard that untitled goose game will be on sale on the day of launch from $20 to $15
I want to own every Zelda game on the Switch. They need to release a Wind Waker / Twilight Princess HD two pack port from the Wii U and it's time for Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask to get the HD remakes that they deserve. I really hope the rumor that Nintendo plans a major Zelda release every year for the remainder of the Switches life cycle is true
I hadn't heard that rumor, but just last night I went on the "news" feature on my Switch and there was an article called... hold on I bet it's still there... it's titled "Get to know Link and his many adventures!" and it proceeds to list every Zelda game. There are 18 listed, and that excludes a few remasters and mobile type games (and the non-canon ones from Phillips CD-i). I think there's more than enough material to do so, but would we get tired of paying 60 dollars for unoriginal content? Particularly if it's just a remaster, I think 40-50 is a better price point, even for a first party title.
Twilight princess wind waker is next year with link to past remake. The year breath of wild 2 comes out we also get the minish cap remake. We are getting two zelda games a year now here on out.
They just did a Windwaker remake on the WiiU so I'd be surprised if they do another for the Switch so soon. They redid Majoras Mask for 3DS so I'd also be surprised if they redid that so soon but I haven't heard of an Ocarina of Time remake! Wish they'd do all of them though
Myy100 yeah, they do. Sure would be cool if they would give me the right to legally digitally purchase their soundtrack. Until they do that I’ll pirate it. I’m going to listen to it, legally or “illegally”, I prefer legally but apparently Nintendo doesn’t want my money.
Obviously this is years old, but for anybody watching this now, one huge drawback is the price. Even four years later, this game still costs an astounding $60 unless you find it on sale. It's really hard to justify paying the same price for breath of the Wild for a much shorter game that just doesn't have the same variety of things to do. Maybe one day it will come down to a price that makes sense for nostalgia purposes, but yikes.
That’s the reason I don’t own it. Since 2020 the greed of cooperations has been outstanding. Unless there’s a sale I won’t be buying this. The no sales and the Lego set $299, I think it may be time for me to give Zelda a break for a while.
I would love for Nintendo to make more, “classic” styles Zelda games. There’s a real youthful charm to them that you don’t quite capture in the newer, more grandiose games.
Did you get a SNES controller? My NES ones are just sitting on a shelf because the titles they've released for NES aren't my faves (No Final Fantasy, no Dragon Warrior, no Battletoads, plenty of stupid Tennis and Tecmo) and I don't want to make the same mistake with the SNES controller if I can just skip it.
@@redlion145 I mainly played in handheld mode. The games holds up so. But I already have an 8bitdo SN30pro which is modeled after the SNES controller so I'll just use that.
ncie game, but I played this game to death on the gameboy color, emulator and the 3ds. I think I'll pass on this one, for now. Maybe catch it up if it gets cheaper. To anyone who did not play the original: "PLAY. THIS. GAME!"
"If you're one of the people who felt that BOTW gave you too much freedom and didn't feel enough like Zelda" I mean, personally it wasn't the exploration but the dungeons that really killed the Zelda vibe for me. Zelda thrives most on its dungeons and BOTW's dungeons were rough. But anyway, lovely review, excited for the game!!!
I really hope they do this for Oracle of Ages/Seasons. Seasons specifically is my favorite portable Zelda game, but playing them together is amazing. It’d be amazing to have that experience in this style.
Great game, but not worth $60 when you can buy the original for $6 on 3DS. This version only changes graphics and updates small things about gameplay. The Crash N Sane trilogy included 3 remade games that are newer and that only cost $40.
I was born in 91 I had all my life to try links awakening and for some reason or another I didn't but in a way I'm glad as I get to experience this for the first time. And I can not wait
The DX version was on Game Boy Color. The Switch version is simply called Link's Awakening just like the original Game Boy version. But I too am excited to play it tomorrow. :)
@@arandompatrat9202 Yeah, that was the joke. It kinda sucks explaining jokes though, at least for me, so I want you to know you're a good person. Most people would just post r/Whoosh and move on, so good on ya.
@@TheMurderer1000 You can often find Tropical freeze remaster on sale for like $40. I'd be surprised if that's not the case for Link's Awakening a year from now. Sure they put in more work for this than TF remaster but LA was still considerably less work than most AAA $60 games.
Yep, I would spend it on DQ 11 or some other game with more content. Keep mind, Link's Awakening is the first in the series that I owned and I loved it.
This is my favorite game of all time and the first game I ever beat on my own back in 1993 (pre-strategy guide) when I was 9. Hopefully Nintendo realizes the potential to remake both 1 and 2.
@@SandyCheeks1896 - The story being the exact same game and almost word for word. Which it is, but it's nice to hear it outright. Also I've heard there would be some performance issues. They mention it's barely noticeable in this video.
I pre ordered and I'm in my 30s it's hugely over priced I can't wait til nintendo goes bust and I can play zelda on my PlayStation they are repackage resale and out of ideas live off over priced nestalgia
I feel like I'm the only person that thinks this looks rubbish... and I don't mean the graphics. I like the art style. I grew up with A Link to the Past but the gameplay here just looks so dull. Unpopular opinion I guess 🤷♂️
3:26 “really lucky” u know I bet there’s plenty of people who were born after the gbc lifespan and didn’t give the vc a try cuz that’s me how did this stupid comment get 20 likes in 16 hours
For me, its hard to justify paying $60 for a game that will take a few hours to beat. It looks really good and fun to play but not worth the cost to me.
They really messed up with the pricing. This game should be a half price title at least. I wont pay full price for this, considering how much more I can get for that money elsewhere.
That's fine to feel that way, but it is a complete from the ground up remake. It's also consistently been on sale for $40 to 45 almost this entire year. If it was a remaster, I would probably agree with you, but every single asset is brand new, and the entire game was recoded.
I do think they should include the original as a bonus. Or at the very least, put it on the eshop. People will compare them, why not make it easier. Instead of getting two systems to compare them. A remake is never a good way to preserve a game. I mean you're not looking at someone's old work, you're looking at someome elses interpretation. No matter how good it is, it is not the same game. Again, cannot emphasize this with all remakes. INCLUDE THE ORIGINAL OR RESELL IT ON THE SAME PLATFORMS WHEN A REMAKE COMES OUT.
I really wish they made use of the dpad so you didn't have to go into the menu to switch ur equipment. Seems like a waste of real estate and a missed opportunity.
This game was an absolute yes for me before i knew it was only a 15h playthrough. It will be the first time I play this game but I'm not sure if it's worth it's price...
@@nicholassullivan1239 DQ 11 looks good honestly i might get it but I was so disappoint about Link's awakening I meed a new Zelda experience so much jaha
Why sre soo many ofbu complaining about the 60 bucks for 15hrs of gameplay? Saying thats not worth 60 lol yall are soo dense not every game needs to be 30+ hours lmfao
@Sniper480 The countless hours of enjoyment from the multiplayer alone makes CoD worth the price. Link's Awakening is a single player only experience that lasts 15 hours.
Played & finished it. Good game but not worth 60$ by modern standards. The game design shows it's age. My only previous zelda games were BOTW and TOTK for context. I wasn't disappointed, but I could have bought a better 60$ game.
Now that Microsoft is our friend, we can no more miss big action games, since I believe Gears and Halo will eventually be on the palm of my hands (with this or with a future hardware Switch), and best of all, we can keep playing masterpieces such as this one, that could only come from a Nintendo production.
@Filipe Baleijo The only strange thing is that people want you to force to agree that the price is reasonable. If you think different, they'll tell you're wrong. That's the internet, a place where you can't disagree, even when you have a reasonable argument.
@@Eggs5232 Totally agree with you. But it seems to me some people think that once Nintendo is releasing it with new graphics and some improvements, everyone has to accept that $60 is a reasonable price. And they've been going to the extent of saying that the price can't be used as an argument
Links Awakening remake engine gives way for Oracle of seasons and ages, I know the boss theme will be re used considering the original was re used as the mini boss theme in oos and ooa.
A little bit? It slows down 75% when in the open-world. Well.. they could have done a better job by making the game polish in performance. This is one of the worst running Nintendo games ever released. It jumps 60 to 30fps every few sec on the overworld.
Link's Awakening is my fav Zelda game ever. Simple but strategic maps & puzzles! The only disappointment is a little lack of storyline. I hope there will be a sequel of Link's Awakening later.
These games are not only nostalgic but have brought me some of my fondest memories as a child..when life was so much simpler..absolutely stunning..played all the original Zelda’s and I’ll definitely be redoing the entire series..this series seems immortal
hey guys, im on a budget, so, choose one (which one is better). 1) Link's Awakening (like) 2) Mario Maker 2 (reply) 3) or, if a switch game is better that is (somewhat) new, tell me. thanks guys!
LTTP is one of my all time favourite Zelda games but I never got to play the original version of this. I may have to pick this one up when it's on sale.
I hated this game so much back in the 90's, and it came with the Gameboy free. It felt too much like homework, to find it fun. Breath of the Wild, may change my view on Zelda 🤷🏽♀️
Breath of the wild is the first game ever that has been modernized exactly the way I wanted it to be...Mario odyssey was good but it's too much the same as ever other 3d Mario game after super Mario 64...breath of the wild was different but in a good way...infact if u disregard the cooking part of the game I would say the game is perfect
I purchased it on release day, mainly because of nostalgia factor. I feel a little ripped off to be honest, the frame drops are HUGE and dunno what resolution the outside world runs at... but looks disappointing.
i got the game but the length of the game and frame rate issues, simply dont justify the quite steep price, was hoping for more, also whats wrong with nintendo to still asking for 59$ for the breath of the wild
Hey guys im new on swith Want to buy switch just for harvest moon and pokemon series But i want to know what i get before that release?? Mario odyssey or this?
I really want to like the soundtrack, but for some reason the orchestration is not to my taste. It's a shame because the sound is half the experience, and music is a huge part of LA.
This is how I'd imagine Link coming from the Gameboy games. He was always cute looking in them, rather then the handsome knight they make him in the other console games.
@@jonperez12344 This is where I would disagree. Because he did not look cute in the intro cut scene that is not how I pictured him throughout the game. He was distorted because of the limitations of the system but he was not depicted as a giant-headed cartoon character.
Wait, Marin is Tarin's father? I've been playing Link's Awakening since I was a kid (turning 27 this weekend) and I thought they were married. This is seriously blowing my mind cause it changes the way I see everything between everyone
