@@ikagura There's reason OoT was a massive success. Sometimes having a fully built world, ruins the wonder of the world. You only need access to the things relevant to the story and gameplay. Best to leave the rest to imagination.

Also not everything has been explored, Hyrule is only one Kingdom in the world of Zelda and considering that the Oracle games, Spirit Tracks and Triforce Heroes are canon then there isn't everything shown in BotW.

@@ikagura Hard disagree. BOTW was an amazing game, but it felt empty. I know very few people that have replayed BotW, let alone more than once. OoT meanwhile? Several times. Several hundred times for some people. Its not just about limitations. Its about world-building and imagination.

Not to mention this mostly looks like they redid some of links model, slapped some bumpmapping onto it and I assume used ambient occlusion for the rest of his model. And they did it well, and they did quite a lot for the rest of the tech demo. But if they wanted to do this without completely remaking twilight princess it would be much more difficult. Likely from creating lighting from scratch, to creating ambient occlusion and bump maps for everything, as well as applying shaders to many, many objects. Not to mention they would have to do this on an engine from the GameCube era, which I doubt would be able to handle all that. They did what they feasibly could. Could they have done more? Duh. Should they have? I don’t see why. Would it have been financially feasible? Nope.

@@maxorigmvs5451 Yes but the game has nothing to do with him. This isn't the Hero of Time's story, it's his descendant's story. All he does is pass on his skills, other than that TP has nothing to do with him besides the fact that Hyrule is the way it is because of the events in OoT just like how the adult timeline's Hyrule is flooded and how downfall timeline's hyrule slowly fell into decline overtime from several game but they all trace back to the final battle of OoT. It's like if I said (a Great Flood game) and Wind Waker were part of OoT as a trilogy because a statue of the Hero of Time and his hero name being mentioned appeared in the games. Now from the timeline we can see there is a little indent line in between Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess which may indicate another game with OoT Link in it which may explain his missing eye and stuff. That I would definitely consider a trilogy.

I heard the Majoras mask engine was not the same as OOT. I think It was coders that said they were different.

By "cinematic" I assume you want Zelda to become yet another cut-scene heavy AAA game like Sony and Microsoft made since the PS360 era. Zelda is a perfect series that doesn't need to be like that to be good. Gameplay will always be superior to story. It's what defines a good game from a bad one, not the lore and storytelling.

@@ikagura From what you just said, you seem to have a very narrow view on what "cinematic" means in gameplay. The commenter wanted Zelda to have worlds and art direction that allow for enriching and story-driven narratives. Not that they wanted Zelda to be a walking simulator.

@@Chelaxim Nope. It's not. But on this demo all player could do was just move camera via analog pad. There was zero gameplay, hence all processor power was utilized on graphics only.

"Better art style" subjective but I think adding lights and reflections doesn't make a game look better (also it's indoor, not exterior). The WIP Zelda game was BotW since the Wii U's release, not this tech demo.

Looks like they're using the same map too judging by the trailer. I expect all the assets in BOTW1 will be copy pasted over, it'll be the same map reheated and touched up, maybe two more new enemy types so bokoblins, moblins, lizalfos and two other enemies that will be copy pasted and spread across the entire map and you'll fight thousands of them. More braindead puzzles, more half assed voice acting jarringly placed in selective cutscenes, 6 new bosses I imagine and that'll be it.

@Jacob Eubank A tech demo shows what the tech can achieve. And as you can see, the Wii U could achieve graphics like this in real-time. So Nintendo could very well make a game like this... and this was a decade ago. Just think what they could make now in 2022 if they wanted to. But nope, people like you will just eat whatever cel-shaded slop Nintendo puts out and never ask for anything greater. And so we will never get a beautiful Zelda like this.

I don't think we could get something remotely as good looking on the switch. The reflections alone would absolutely obliterate performance. We could definitely get a more realistic looking Zelda but it would definitely be scaled back from this. On a switch 2 with more powerful hardware, die shrinks, dlss, and maybe even rt we could perhaps get something close to this. But if you're playing on a switch do you really care about graphics? I don't think so. You got it because of its portability and first party catalogue. I got my PS5 for more visually demanding and serious games.

@AlbertoGame This most certainly wasn't a beta for Breath of the Wild. This is simply a Wii U tech demo showing off what the Wii U can handle. Just like the Gamecube tech demo where is shows Link fight Ganondorf in a Ocarina of time HD style.

zelda fans are shooting themselves in the foot, you praise everything nintendo makes, (triforce heroes anyone?) to the point that nintendo knows that it is ok to be mediocre, you'll buy it and praise it as if it were the eight wonder of the world; games are reaching a point, graphically that at some point, will age relatively well; the only thing that will hold a game back is the gameplay (nintendo has that down), an example would be Resident evil 4, the HD version makes it almost as good as a current gen game, but you can tell the gameplay is really old, if nintendo had done breath of the wild with the graphics shown in this video, it would still hold. This demo was made in 2012 and it still holds up today. Sure wind waker and breath of the wild have a unique style that will allow them to age very well, but they wont be at the level of RDR 2, Final Fantasy 7 remake and RE2 & RE3 remakes. breath of the wild is not that great, it didnt deserve all the praise or perfect scores, ive seen games with less flaws get scores of 9/10, but somehow BOTW gets a 10/10 despite the mediocre soundtrack, boring sidequest, lame story, empty world, lack of enemy variety, weapon system an awful and disappointing final boss 120 shrines that after the first 20 are all the same with a few changes 4 "dungeons" that are in my opinion some of the worst in the series. The only thing it has going for it is the difficulty and freedom. Zelda needed a change BOTW is heading in the right direction but its far from being the best.

@@vikutaa I actually agree and disagree. I think the graphics in this demo would hold up later because it's not hyper realistic. However, I also think BOTW will hold up because that art style is also very unique on its own

The current one can... well sort of if you want open world with long render distance then maybe not in any practical sense; however, if they were to make something like the classical 3d titles like oot, mm, ww, tp and so forth the switch can do better than this! keep in mind this was a wii U demo the switch is more powerful and the next system is probable not too far out. Given this was a highly refined demo for a small room with simply geometry, but with the improvement the switch has at the moment I could see something like this if they would allow it.

@@Chris30C The demo exists on the Wii U so it technically was possible even without that extra power. Probable not practical though. unless all the rooms were as empty and/or small. Yeah if it had that extra juice it might have been possible especially with the classic formula where the world wasn't a single massive open world filled with well... not much, but still that render distance takes its toll. I sure hope they toss the classic fans a bone and give us at least a side game or something. Ideally with the more tp or oot/mm styled graphics. Love a good celshaded game; however, also like my darker tones too.

It was! All of it was rendered in real time on real hardware. While the Wii U wasn’t a powerful system, rivaling only the 360 in power, its graphics chip was pretty damn good! Not to mention that there are a LOT of ways to make lighting without compromising system power. Pikmin 3 and a few other titles showcase the Graphics chip incredibly well!

Or why not having an art style that looks more stylised? Like the first two Zelda games but in 3D.

Gigaflop is just another marketing term like bits. The Wii had still great games despite its power.

Its a pre rendered cutscene using the engine, its not at all playable, i think you could change the time and lighting with the game pad.

@@GUNUFofficial It wouldn't be a tech demo if it was pre-rendered. Tech demo's show off the real time power of the system. Most of the time they're very controlled to make sure they don't make the hardware look bad which is why non-playable demos exist.

@@GUNUFofficial it's not really pre rendered cuz you could play the demo in-person at the time. although the input is fairly limited, all you can do is move around the limited camera angle. but it does prove this all ran on actual hardware
