*READ THIS FIRST* Yes I am aware that true Arthurian legend depicts Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone as being different swords, however in more contemporary pop culture versions of this myth they are regularly depicted as being one and the same, hence why I stated that the sword in the stone thing is in *some* stories regarding Excalibur (i.e. those that are more widespread throughout popular culture) *but by no means all* :) Also in the novella "Garrow: Knight of Grey" (which came out about 3 years after this video was posted), it was revealed that Libertas was shattered by Mortarion.

Baldemort has another part of the theory. Gulliman has a table for all of his brothers.....a round table.. 20 primarchs, 20 orginal Knights of the Round table. Also, questing knights. Russ is searching for that which will restore the Emperor. That is the grail. Jaghatai, Dorn, The Raven, are all in the warp questing. Vulcan's sons are questing to bring him back.

Makes me wonder if the sword's anomalous properties may have kept it from destroying the damaged chainsword of Loken on Istvaan 3 when Garro and Loken dueled. Right, as noted the biggest hole in the theory is that we don't actually have Excalibur. The two closest things we have are the type of blade that is stuck in the rock in France, and the type of blade used in the century of the supposed real life figure the myth is based off. GW can fix both of these very easily, especially if they go with the sword in the stone theory, with a couple paragraphs in a story somewhere. Something like, "the core is made from a sword found in a vault on Terra. That vault contained a mass of stone from the French mountains, and jammed in that stone was a rusted sword. It was this object that had set off the anomaly scanners of the psykers". Boom, we have Excalibur.
@Aceshot-uu7yx

personally hold under the belief that it'd be in an armory on Terra, due to the significance of a relic of one of the first true martyrs of the imperial cult, especially the first of the Siglites Errants. If not on Terra, then it would likely reside somewhere within imperial space, second best guess i can reach would be something like Erioch, they're both pretty secretive or important places a powerful blade should be held.

How could a steal blade be anything but a weakness in forging a Power Sword? Wouldn't it shatter the first time it was swung against adamantium? Unless, that is, what if it was a Daemon blade, perhaps bound to the Daemon Merlin? Could Merlin have been a relatively benign Warp Entity who served as an advisor to an ancient Albionic King, and a tutelary spirit to his realm through the ages?
@moriskurth628
@moriskurth628 3 года назад
Well, Excalibur could be the core of the weapon, not just by itself. There are mentions of Astartes turning ancestral weapons into Power Weapons, most notably the Space Wolves. Libertas is basically Excalibur, just encased in more durable, futuristic materials. Alternatively, the Daemon Weapon Theory holds more water than you realize. Merlin, in the legends, was said to be a satanic Demon that found God's light and uses his magical powers for Good, and the Lady of the Lake is also a thing. A weapon, forged by a Warp Entity, could theoretically change in shape and size.
@jamescampbell39
@jamescampbell39 3 года назад
@@moriskurth628 Perhaps Arthur was actually the God-Emperor himself, and Malchidor was in reality, Merlin. It could be postulated that Mordred was a perpetual and only a weapon such as Caliburn or Excalibur could do him in, remember Arthur received a critical head wound from Mordred before he killed him. Arthur aka The God-Emperor placed himself into a healing coma to repair the physical damage but his memories may have been erased so he would not have had any memory of his time as Arthur or that Malchidor and Merlin were the same person.

That the sword came back up out of the stone when Garro pulled it with no effort at all sells me on it at least being made of a fragment of that great blade, though I can't imagine it being anything less than the whole sword itself.

it would be nice to know that such a weapon has sustained the test of time. there are other weapons that share the same property where they can only be wielded by their true master. mjolnir, odysseus's bow, wukong's pole. even the sword of gryffindor...ok nvm lol

That is one seriously well supported theory! Considering that Garro was the introduction to the "Knights" Errant and the UK legend/GW connection, i would be surprised if you were wrong. Bit of a spoiler but worth it.

I forgot about the Falkus bit, good call. Dan couldn't help but to use the "sword in the stone".reference, he's vulnerable to those kind of homages.

It would seem to me that Garro had no doubt he would be able to “pull the sword from the stone”, after all, he’d seen Kyber try with all his might and fail. But he doesn’t even hesitate to try. Given his tactical battle acumen it would have been a terrible mistake to try and pull it free unless he was sure it would have been possible. Perhaps he’s aware of it’s strange properties (I reckon it’s an ancient Xeno weapon, which could indeed be Excalibur). In any case, Garro is a boss and Saturnine is the best thing to come out of the Black Library ever!

Didn't know Nathanial Garro was from Albia. Sharing a first name with him, and also being British, he's definitly my boi. He has similar taste to me when it comes to weapons too, wielding a longsword, one of my favourite types of sword along with the Sabre, Jian, Kyo-Gunto and the Gladius. If i was in 40k i would definitly wield a bolt pistol, macrostubber, hand flamer or a inferno pistol as my sidearm. A combi bolter would be my choice of ranged weapon, either a combi-plasma, combi-melta or most likely, a combi-grenade launcher. I don't know what Garro used in these regards though.

I wish to believe that Libertaus is Excalibur. It makes the Most sense to me and makes the sword even more interesting. Having said that I wonder if we would get the mysterious origins of The Black Sword of Sigismund !

Here's an idea. What if Libertas, is in fact the Titansword wielded by Kaldor Draigo? I believe there was some fluff that suggested at a possibility, however for the life of me, I cannot remember it.

If we're going with the conceit that Libertas is Excalibur, (conflicting sizes and differing origins of the sword notwithstanding) then what could the rest of the Arthurian legend mean? Like, could Merlin have been like a shaman of ancient Terra? What was the Lady of the Lake? Could she have been some kind of warp-entity?

I think it is more than likely just a reference more than anything, maybe to drive the narrative of his worthiness. 40K is meant to be set in the real world and the fact that King Arthur wasn't real is all the evidence needed to disprove the theory. That said it is nice to see these kinds of things included in lore.

I think it is quite amuzing that many of the greatest heroes in the imperium originated from the Albion region on Terra, and that the Emperor was so impressed with their resistance to unity, that he sought a dimplomatic settlement with them instead. It's almost like one could suspect GW of making some sort of statement or tribute :P

Location of the Blade? Best guess off the hip, if not a Relic of Titan or the Church; I would say the Somnus Citadel, and the Sisters of Silence.

If it was literally THE Excalibur, may it be that THE Excalibur could be a long abandoned Aeldari power sword? That could explain its extreme longevity, largely because I don't think a Pre-dark age of technology archeotech would be particurarly good or interesting. Edit: That, or considering its human-made appearance, it could be through warp-induced time travel.
