Tony Canzoneri - Was an American professional boxer. A three-time world champion, he held a total of five world titles. Canzoneri is a member of the exclusive group of boxing world champions who have won titles in three or more divisions. Canzoneri won his first title, the World Featherweight title, with a 15-round decision over Benny Bass on February 10, 1928. He retained that title one time and then went up in weight and challenged World Lightweight Champion Sammy Mandell, losing by a decision in ten rounds. But in 1930, Mandell was knocked out in the first round by Al Singer and lost his title and Canzoneri, who had already beaten Singer by a ten-round decision before, challenged Singer for the title on November 14, 1930, knocking him out in the first round to become a two division world champion. In defeat, Singer made history by becoming the first man, and only man up until John Mugabi, to both win and lose the title by knockout in the first round.

@haNZAgod greetings brother. We are 4 to 5 generations removed from the era of the greats. As time goes by and our testosterone averages continue to plummet, do you think this was a major factor as to why they seemed to be overall better as a whole than we are today?

Along with Marciano and Pep, he is on the pantheon of amazing, all time great Italian American fighters. Another incredible resume, fought them all, beat most of them and was always ready to go again. 171 fights and not stopped until his very last bout. Can't say enough about him. Clearly top 10 or 15 all time great!

Like Ruben Olivares Wifredo Gomez s, they are not the greatest of their ethnicity, as Tina Turner put it. They are simply the best.Tony Canozeri has the fundamentals locked 🔒 down. Plus, extremely athletic and was game to go tit for TAT, which equals Magic 🎩. Fun Fact Tony C was an honorary member of the Bonanoo Famiglia . It's sad when I walk past the Bryant Hotel in Manhattan, I always proclaim loudly at the top of my lungs, right in There died The Lightweight Chapeen of The World 🌎.

He was a little guy too, started as a bantam, then feather then lightweight up to welterweight. Most of his fights he was fighting guys who were naturally bigger than him. Rare talent, one of the very best ever.

Great work as usual! Canzoneri was an all time great, crafty, slick counter puncher who loved to set traps. An all time great fantasy fight (due to styles) would have been prime Canzoneri vs. prime Armstrong at 135.

Thats a great matchup. But i think Armstrong would win but in a very close fight. Because Armstrong beat Barney Ross. And Barney Ross beat Canzoneri twice. I know that styles make fight. But Armstrong was relentless.
@TainoMantis
@TainoMantis 4 года назад
@@husain4718 I agree it would be close either way. Lou Ambers (Canzoneri's old sparring partner) gave Armstrong many, many problems in their 2 controversial fights (Ambers won 1 and Armstrong won 1). A prime Canzoneri was a craftier counter-puncher than Ambers, and had sneaky power. I can definitely see a prime Canzoneri doing to Armstrong what Baby Arizmendi did to him for many fights, but past prime - Armstrong's pace would be too much to handle.

I want to know how fighters develop this excellent head movement. I had read somewhere that Ali had his brother throw rocks at Ali until Ali was able to dodge every single one, which provided him the finesse he needed to slip punches as he did in the 60s. Very interesting.

Super Didou Oh yeah, I train boxing so I understand the weave work under the rope. What I'm always amazed at when I see a guy like this or Pernell Whitaker or George Benton is how they are nearly untouchable. Makes me wonder what uncanny training and theorizing they did to acquire said skills.

Most the good trainers to my knowledge had a myriad of drills for head movement and footwork, but the experience is also key, these guys were more than comfortable in the pro ring with so much activity and built up so many fights that they were smooth

This "frog's" boxing skills seem to be quite PINOCCHIO-refined: He moves his head, in a very adept defensive way to avoid getting hit. He has lots of speed and power in those punches, many of which are very UNtelegraphed. Off the record, the 1970s was a time in which there was a lot of generic "flute and drum" music -almost like some kind of a Native American revival. I really like the "violin and drum" music which plays in the FOREGROUND of this video......so much better than the music of many other youtube videos.
