Note to self: Blood supply to the basal ganglia is primarily supplied by the lenticulostriate arteries, which are branches of the middle cerebral artery.

This was a good explanation. When I had an MRI in 2017 (for an unrelated issue) they found that I had a lot of these lacunar strokes. At first they said it was MS. So I had to have MRI's every six months. Then they finally said I had lacunar strokes. I never felt that I had any strokes at all - no symptoms. I had Type II diabetes for 24 years. On high blood pressure meds since that time. Blood pressure well controlled. Taking cholesterol meds since 2017 even though I never had high cholesterol. Without rambling on, my question is why don't I have any side effects and never knew I was having these? Will these strokes that I had lead me to have early dementia? I am 61. Thank you.

Hi ,are u still okay and you don't have any symptoms right ? Is it chronic lacunar infarct ? What will be the prognosis as my mother mri had the same but doctor is telling that it's normal in older people

@@vishalkasotia6703 Hi Vishal, I am doing very well. It's been three years since my last MRI. I'm not sure not sure if its "chronic" lacunar infarct as we never were sure how long ago I had these. Could have been 10 years or more. I need to have another MRI soon to see if any more have popped up but I haven't had any symptoms except for a little memory issues. I'm doing what the doctor asked me to do. I'm taking 2 blood pressure medicines - 20MG of Enalapril, 5MG Amlodipine and and a cholesteral medicine - 20MG Atorvastatin. I'm not sure how normal it is in older people to have these strokes. I just know it's rare for someone in their late 50's, which I was at that time, to have these. The doctor said I had the brain of an 85 year old. I wish your mother all the best. Has she noticed any side effects from these strokes? Thank you.

@Jean St. Aubin ,hi Jean , My mother(age :62) is getting only headaches which comes and goes , doctor gave paracetamol and continued blood pressure medicines although my mother has high cholesterol but she's not taking any medicine for it. Her infarct is in ganglio -capsular region .Did you made any dietary changes or specific exercises ? And did doctor told any chances of ischemic stroke in future ?
@JeanStAubin-nl9uo
@JeanStAubin-nl9uo Год назад
@@vishalkasotia6703 No dietary changes or exercises but I have been swimming. I could have strokes in the future. He said the biggest thing is too control blood pressure and keep taking the cholesterol medicine even though it was never high. I wish your mother the best.

I keep having these, they think because of my blood pressure, but they can't fix my blood pressure. It seems to be stuck no matter how much medication they give me. Often around 225/124 but on a good day maybe 205/113. That is on 3 blood pressure pills, a diuretic, plavix and a new medication for tachycardia, which I recently developed. I think I'm going to die soon. I'm going blind and I am starting renal failure. I wish doctors could find a cure for autonomic dysfunction.

@@ragnarokmero8412 , I am hanging in there. My blood pressure has come down better during the day but because of the really massive amounts of blood pressure meds they are using , it has permanently destroyed my kidneys. They told me that, apparently, I will not be a good candidate for dialysis or transplant. So I am just doing my best with what I have. How are you doing?
