Is it just me or has the price of EDC knives gone through the roof. I was a knife junkie but these prices have scared me straight lol. For the price of a new knife every month you could lease a Lexus.
That is a very good point Rick...In the past, I would have found it unthinkable to pay more than $50 or $75 for any knife, with the exception of perhaps a great kitchen Chefs knife. WTF has happened to my ability to discern quality vs. price?
I wouldn’t call it bias since you praised the knife. I’d call it preference. You simply prefer a smaller knife with a thinner edge for your daily tasks & lifestyle. But if a friend who used a knife in harder tasks showed up with this knife in his pocket you’d likely say good choice, at least for you.
100% agree on poor / zero availability info. There’s a part of me that thinks makers fancy themselves ‘artistes’ and therefore justify being slow and non-communicative. I’ve been into knives forever and when internet purchasing became a thing - makers either want my money or they don’t. I have many options and will choose to look elsewhere. That’s not even mentioning the sketchy screw design... I’ll pass. Awesome review, though and thank you.
A buddy of mine was looking for this knife for some time and he finally bought it second hand but BNIB. He is using his knives pretty hard and he is very happy with the knife, truth be told he is a Les George fan, and he has a nice little collection of Les George knives. I haven't tried it nor held it but I usually find Les George knives pretty solid but blocky and heavy. But he has his own design language and he sticks to that, props to him for being confident and consistent with his designs.
It seems like smoothness of action and blade shape means $$ don't matter. So many things would have been bad on other knives it seems and the price doesn't reflect that at all. If this is nearly a gem, then the Drunken will be a double gem. My opinion obviously.
Bearings gurantee a smooth consistent deployment, if maintained well they will always gurantee a good action, in my, opinion, if you dont do anything to get gunk on your knife, bearings are a good choice, but wahers can have a bearing like action too, also they need less maintaining
Well done washers offer both exceptional function and better durability. Granted it takes a little more effort and thought, but that tends to improve the knife overall anyway so it's worth the time.
Tmankiller72 hey no kidding i have the same knife i just put it back in the pouch i got a set of white scales just to see what it looks like but i'm carrying the cf scales today that's hot shit!
@@everydaycarry1328 haha thank you! It's pretty stellar. It flips, middle flicks, and thumb flicks well. It's a pretty drop shut close with a bit of a nudge!
yeah, idk how they get away with that high a price, it looks very cheap and bland...not bad for a 30 dollar knife but for a 400 dollar knife to be beaten out in "looks like its not a budget knife" by my carbon fiber ganzo is pretty sad.
I didn’t even know this knife existed until Labor Day weekend 2018. I was in line at USN GX, and the guy behind me had one. He showed it to me and let me finger it a bit. It’s a solid, well designed and built knife, and every bit the price of $375 considering other makers want more for lesser designs and materials. It became an instant grail for me. Would I like it to be cheaper? Yep, but a $30 Ruike (I have the P-801 and like it very much) it is not. Les could really send this knife into the pockets of every hardcore knife snob if he teamed with Boker to do a production version.
Easy to tell it's a Les George design just by looking at it (not that that is a bad thing by any means) as you mentioned. I like his designs, and this one is no exception to that, but it is a little outside of my budget range unfortunately. I like the way that the edge goes as close to the handle as possible. I am not a fan of big riccasos ot poorly done choils. Choils are ok if done right, but most are not.
After many years and many, many knives, my interest in the hobby is fading. This knife does nothing to rekindle it. Pretty boring design. Good video as always though Nick
drameday - I’m gonna jump in and say I feel the same way. I think maybe there was a hay day that we’re passed now. I’m missing Blade Show this year bc of travel and I’m not even that bothered.
Just looks like a frame lock flipper to me not my favorite but I can see it working for some people. But If I had that or a sebenza or that I would go with the sebenza
I think they just pop up on his website. I’m sure he has a list of loyal followers who he contacts and they snatch them up before the 24 hour mark. I wish I was in that list (if it exists LOL)
Ironically my ganzo in d2 is prettier and the fit/finish is the same. I don't know how they can get away with charging 400 for a ~30 dollar aesthetically/fit and finish wise knife
Quetz It’s made in the US. You’re always gonna pay more for that because American workers expect things like “salaries” and “air” in their working environments. That’s why I personally don’t mind paying more for American made products.
