Hey, how the hell did I unsubscribe form this channel?... That's weird. Anyhow. I think this song is now one of my favorites. I came here from hearing Chris Thile play Dylan's don't think twice and said to myself: "Hey, whatever happened to the other favorites".
If Paul Simon had written/recorded this song, 3+ billion people would know it, sing along to millions of car radio jockeys playing it every day. Carson and Josh are American national treasure gems. Nothing against global commercialism, God bless this talented pair. They are a gift. Thank you, gentlemen.
@@whodey2112 Commercial hit? Impossible. More than 3 words to remember. No mention of pickup truk...dawg ...you done let me down...mama cried. Biggest problem: Reina/Lindgren/ Josh/Carson don't own a single hat between them.
Yeah, there are quite a few younger folks working RU-vid with good acoustic covers, and these guys are great at that, but then their originals are kind of unbelievable -- both words and music slay me. Plus, then they got it figured out, that it's about a good song, they don't work to show off, they just keep it simple, tasty, and musical. Very good!
@@bryanpoulsen8969 THESE guys, man! I think Carson writes most of the lyrics. Either way, some of their best songs were written when they were teenagers; Way too young for your average kid to be writing such insightful/heartbreaking/soulful/clever songs. They're amazing!
It absolutely does! I'm interested in hearing Josh break down the theory behind that. Something about the chord progression sounds so familiar but novel at the same time. Very beautifully-crafted song.
One of the best breweries there is. Never have had bad beer made by Sierra Nevada, cannot say the same about most other craft breweries and I have tried quite a few of them.... Say what, this video was not about beer? Yeah great singing and playing too.
Of the 1,221,933 views, I believe I am 200,000 of them. The writing is beyond impressive. The Banjo and Guitar together is amazing. Even to the end with an orchestrated finish. I wish I had the musical vocabulary to give it the praise it needs.
I just watched Carson play this tune on his live stream from his home in NC during the Great COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020, currently ravaging the world. For just a few minutes, I was able to set aside fear and anxiety and enjoy this young man’s joyous talent. Bless you Carson.
I am 71 years old and have never heard such a talented musician as you. I am blown away by the the instruments you've mastered, your fluid style of playing, the variety of music you perform and your singing and harmony. this banjo piece is my favorite so far. Keep playing the world will be blessed for many years.
this is legitimately one of my favorite songs ever. that little break after the Guatemala line gives me shivers. you guys are so so so talented, never stop!
Fuck me, but they are insanely good. This is what old geezers like me call real music. A genuine delight. Precision and pleasure in equal measure. It is a very rare commodity. And however defined, they've got it. In bucket-loads.
As much as I LOVE your covers, and I mean all of them, (I'm a 49 yr old music dude) please keep up with this (not type, kind or genre) originality. The collaborations are amazing, but an original song, with actual musical talent, I'm hooked.
When you two get together, it's magic. MAGIC! The last time I got goosebumps listening to you two was for "A Table For One." Great lyrics, great instrumentation, great chemistry. Do nothing to this song. Record it just as is. TAKE MY MONEY!
You are both so talented .I have been watching your video's a long time now Josh and you are an inspiration to a 59yo who had almost stopped believing in today's music.I hope you realise how good you are and Carson is a great talent also Regards from Dublin Ireland
Callingcard...I SO agree with you! These two gentlemen (and ALL of the lovely other talents that I have seen them play and sing with!!!) just fill my heart with joy! To see such youngsters that so obviously appreciate such a wide expanse of musical history, genres and styles...not to mention that they, on occasion, write their OWN bloody music!...just warms my heart. Here are some LOVELY, talented people...that haven't followed the cookie cutter/techno-whatever (pardon my saying) CRAP that is so prevalent in today's mainstream soundtrack. My hat's off to these fine folk! I only wish that I could meet them all in person!!!
I think I've heard this song about 87 times now and it is still just pure music gold to me. If only hitparades wouldn't be so rigged, this would have been a worldwide hit. Well, it still can become one. It's timeless!
Download the video through a youtuber downloader (find a suitable one on Google), convert to whatever fits your needs (mp3 maybe?) and transfer it to your phone via usb/wifi and import it into your spotify library.
This is still great, over 5 years since I first watched, I keep coming back for the lyricism, the blues banjo, the vocals, the banter, the musicianship. Feels like watching teenage musical magicians who have become true artistic mages. Keep casting your spells, we are entranced.....
Great original. Love the cord changes. Great chromatic walk down & rhythm. Excellent words. Great work guys! Keep turning them out like that. Vince James
Just discovered this after watching many other musical videos featuring Josh (often with Carson), and this song and performance is now definitely one of my favorites! An original song, no less! Thanks for sharing all the sweet sounds, guys, and continued success!
This is currently my favorite song - I absolutely love it! Josh and Carson you have such great talent! Absolutely stunning. Please come and perform in Cape Town when the pandemic is over!
ok, now you have me listening to "originals", loving every minute of it. This was great. Loved the banjo work and the old school sound, but again, a fresh take on old school.
It is SO obvious that these two young men just have a wonderful, magical time playing their music together. They are such a pair...a match made in Heaven. I have watched a large number of vids of them together and every one of those vids is just nothing short of pure magic. I wish I could play guitar (and any number of other stringed instruments!) HALF as well as these two gentlemen do. I also wish I could SING half as well as Carson does. (I've been told that I tend to sing in the key of K flat....)(As well...I have been asked over the course of my whole life if I am a singer {I DO have a rather unique voice...to put it kindly}. I have responded that "Of COURSE! I LOVE to sing! But when I DO...dogs howl and babies cry.... "Nough said....)
This would be great fun to watch even if muted. The way you melt into the music is just priceless. But with the sound on... that is something else again... I love it, thanks a bunch, Josh and Carson! Zs
i am just plain addicted to this song....so awesome. the bend after the break you do on the banjo has more flavor than your finely crafted pale ale! syncopated style rarely seen!
Wow, guys - I've been a fan for a while, but I never happened to watch this video for some sad reason. I was born in 1984 in New Orleans, but I had to quit college 1 year from graduating after Katrina came through and move to Monroe in the north of the state. I know this song isn't specifically about that disaster - but wow. The relationships and community that the storm destroyed is so well described by this song, if you want to listen to it that way. Absolutely beautiful.
Just in case you guys haven't heard the recurring theme in hundreds of prior comments... You've hit on something special with this tune that even an untrained ear can pick up. Great harmony, emotion, groove, and the raw physical/audio environment seem to compliment it gloriously... Well done guys!
So, this one time, I was discussing iconic drum beats with the Mrs, and of course, I used “When the Levee Breaks” as an example. In doing so, within a day, RU-vid’s algorithm suggested this video. Wow! That couldn’t have been more wrong, yet, couldn’t have been more right for me. Carson, Josh, Reina, Toni, and company are so talented, and I’m so glad that I accidentally found them.
Chris here and I play some music myself, just wanted to say you are literally bringing/going to bring back country music/the pure energy which roamed in majority before! Not just country, or bluegrass but music for the soul with southern styles! Peace and much love brother, with all your friends/family too!
