My humble attempt to finish Franz Rosenzweig's final unfinished sentence: Unfinished Sentence: "And now it comes, the point of all points, which the Lord has truly revealed to me in my sleep, the point of all points for which there-". Finished Sentence: "And now it comes, the point of all points, which the Lord has truly revealed to me in my sleep, the point of all points for which there is Life, for why we Live, is Love". This based on his other realization: "All future events are merely a reproduction of the first moment of Love, giving birth to itself from an inner womb that continuously fertilizes itself. Love carries in itself its everlasting renewed beginning."
Fantastic discussion. The note on Levinas aligning himself with Rosenzweig to distance himself from Heidegger was apt and needed. What's interesting is how Derrida is in some ways closer to Rosenzweig than Levinas was; Levinas makes Rosenzweig a thinker of the other and justice, and it is true that justice-redemption-is important for Rosenzweig, but it is Derrida that picks up on the thread that justice is always deferred, never realized, never something that is, never achieved. Justice is the im-possible; justice is indeconstructable because justice is never constructed, it never is such that deconstruction undergoes; justice does not even begin construction, for if it did, deconstruction would always already begin. Justice is radically deferred. This radical deferral of justice utterly central to Rosenzweig's thinking.
