“The Life of Atown” starring Allen Sherrod known as ATown is a 30 year old man who has end stage kidney disease and has been on transplant list since the age of seven. Allen remained on a kidney transplant waiting list for two years, and at the age of nine received a Kidney. ATown explains his childhood journey and physically shows everyone where he grew up, where he went to school and what happens inside of Penn Medicine transplant center. ATown also shared with us the Davita dialysis center he attends Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s.
Dr. Behad David Vesharatian explains that a living donor transplant is a better option than a deceased donor transplant because when receiving a living donor transplant the outcome is quicker with a better outcome that lasts longer. The issue that ATown can run across while getting his kidney transplant surgery is retrieving a kidney that is feasible to the size of his diaphragm, from his rib cage to his stomach bone.
Mohagony Rose who is the videographer and editer of “ The Life of ATown” documentary has also started a kidney awareness campaign back in June 2023 to spread awareness due to her sympathy for ATown. Through attending lives on ATown’s social media Mohagony realized his fans and supporters were wondering where he’s been and suggested so she suggested a documentary to mesh along with the campaign.
