TheStorySoFart Parasite is better than Lighthouse IMO. The cinematography looks amazing. I think it’s just me, but I think Parasite’s also better paced.
He's succeeded even if he stopped here. People will look back on this movie as a classic decades from now. I'm happy I was alive to see it in theaters.
Paratassis After seeing Lighthouse I thought, “Okay, Pattinson. You’ve been forgiven for Twilight.” And I don’t think I’m the only one who has thought this.
@@SuperJohn1011 my favorite delivery is when Robert puts his finger to his head after he finally finds the journal and yells at Dafoe "now I'VE been finally thinkin clearly on this here matter!"
@@starlord6433 your movie sucks... actually im pretty shocked that picky as fuck guy gave it a 10, the movie must be great, i recommend the Witch from the same guy who directed this, pretty great as well
TPF - Theology, Philosophy, & Fun he gave it an awesometacular, but I listed the reviewers where that kinda verdict is REALLY rare. With Jeremy, an awesometacular is a bit more common 🤣
Clerks, anyone? ^_^ A film where not a lot happens, but the dialogue carries it, is probably one of my favourite movies, too. It makes what action does happen all the more impactful (Kurosawa is good for that too)
Not my favourite genre but I do find movies like that the most absorbing. If it's well done it pulls me into the story and I forget I even have a phone.
I think the black and white helped a lot there. The hardest part of realistic CGI is realistic lighting and colour matching so having to only deal with lighting was the best problem they could’ve had.
Ya I know CVH is a film guy and I can see what he's saying, but for me it was so sudden and creepy I didn't really think about the actual effect much. Fookin Proteus
Kutastha, the Irishman will most likely be a cliche standard mafia movie. A well done one but probably won’t be anything new like parasite or lighthouse.
My favorite film of the year, I’d call it a psychological drama with horror elements and lighthearted moments. There were so many beautiful allusions and interpretative homages, and the Promethean imagery stunned me
Liam yes! Fantastic also in Good Time and High Life. If there is any justice Pattinson will be nominated for actor in a leading role. Dafoe was the best supporting actor of 2019, and should be awarded as such.
We need more movies like this. These type of movies really pisses off those people who doesn't consider a movie as a movie if it doesn't have actions and goofy humor in it.
Robert Pattinson truly stepped out of the “Twilight” shadow, and I’m so very glad. I could always tell that he had talent, and he is really blossoming. Can’t wait for his next film, and this one is brilliant.
I'd have to say one of my favorite things about this film is how it looks just so old school that if you did not know any better you'd almost swear The Lighthouse had been filmed back in the mid to late 1940s or early 50s.
I love the setting of this film. Wish it was used more in movies... nautical settings lend themselves so well to great cinematography and that time periods look is so classy. Still processing what the hell happened in this movie though... in a good way...
I feel like The Lighthouse is gonna be one of those movies that a lot of people just don't get, and will call it "garbage" because it's so different from what's usually in a film today.
No spoilers. The movie is based on the greek myths proteus and prometheus. It's about stealing fire/knowledge from the Gods and not being able to understand everything all at once. This led to consequence in the mythos. A lot of symbology in a modern take on greek mythology that grounds itself in human behavior. It makes more sense under this context once you know where the writers were pulling influences from. I would say willem dafoe's character took on the trickster archetype and patttinson was his target for mind play. Great movie, but felt like an acid trip devoid of all color because of the obvious choice to go old school black and white lense. A must see, but go in expecting to be confused by weird imagery.
Good on ya for reviewing a film like this! I know a lot of people watch your channel for the very specific type of film you normally cover, so it’s great you’re exposing this film to people who wouldn’t normally think to see it. This is a movie I think most anyone should see.
I just got back from seeing it and it REALLY delivered!! I'd give it a 10/10 as well. I plan on seeing it on the big screen again here in a couple days.
Finally a script and movie that actually does Robert Pattinson justice. He's a great actor he just really needs to break out of the "Twilight Guy" box people have put him in over the years
Well he wants people to see it so it makes sense all Marcus wants to do is convince people to watch it while giving the least amount of information as possible so we can go in blind
I'm glad you've finally moved on to True Kino. You talk often about films like this in your twitter, and it's nice that you are starting to do it in the channel as well!
The internet spending so much time discussing a black-n-white film with only 2 characters. You'd think people will dismiss this compared to last 20-30 year's standards, but The Lighthouse has sparked so much discussion and interpretation. It's just a testament to how good a job the whole team has made. That includes you, Mr. Cosmonaut (Hour?), for acknowledging it.
A flat character arc was proven fine quite a long time ago...a flat arc is about how the world changes around the character because of their personality/choices/etc
This film is such a trip. I've watched it over the course of a little more than a month cause it was just freaking me out, but in a good way. I've watched several scenes several times over just to grasp what I'm being shown and honestly I can't even tell you the meaning behind most of what's going on without doing more research but that's the kind of thought provoking movie making I want to see. It was a great watch and the performances are epic.
Could very possibly become one of my favorites. They also shot on 100 year old lenses or something like that. Saw it two days in a row, both of the times driving through deep snow and ice. The theater attendant recognized my hat and said, “again?!”
This and Bait are my favourite films of recent (lighthouse is arguably my favourite ever, I absolutely adore it) and I am so glad we are starting to see these incredibly unique and brilliant films getting more notice.
I legitimately was thinking on whether to see this in theaters or not. I knew I was gonna get it later but didn’t know if I should use my limited free time to see it. This video changed my mind. Definitely going to see it
I won’t lie, I really didn’t enjoy the movie at all, even though I studied film and I usually LOVE weird, stressful avant garde art films, but I think it is to this movie’s credit that I can still see WHY people like it even though I don’t. (Dafoe and Pattinson were insanely good also).
A D I loved it but I do think it should have ended a bit earlier with a children of the flies ending confronting society by the way of the tender showing up while Dafoe was on a leash. But maybe I’m wrong
Saw it the first time and was completely immersed into it but didn't know how I felt after the end but watched it for a second time and just fell in love with it and I want to go watch it for a third time but have to save money hahaha. I can't stop thinking about it though to be honest.
