The Dark Angels weren't just used to slaughter the Thunder Warriors, they did quite a lot of work that wasn't made public during the Great Crusade. I'm pretty sure they were supposed to be the Inquisition before the Inquisition was on the drawing board. Sort of a secret police type thing. I think a big part of the Lion's "loyalty is it's own reward, it doesn't matter who knows" statement is because only the Emperor knew 90% of the missions he went on in the background while Horus was off kicking ass with everyone watching.

@Betcher's Gland Guiliman before becoming the Senate of McCragge, his father was just a very good Senator who was assassinated by corrupt Senators. Guiliman raised an army and went full Crossing the Rubicon and succeeded by institutionalizing the Meritocracy. He was technically just another Senator, but was unanimously voted 1st among equals.

I just wish they'd be themselves and talk about lore ina podcast or do more questions and stuff like make those 40 fact videos just produced faq instead of camp cringe. Dude is still in stasis. Probably is reserved till GW wants to make mega cash selling a badass primarch who's at the level of Sanguinius. I think too that Primarchs 1 & 11 are reserved for future ideas. Some lore like Primarch 1 is actually who everyone believes as the bony emperor thing at the throne and the true emperor of mankind has been drifting in the immaterium or vise versa 😂 You know some weird stuff to bring in for later.

If only the emperor looked towards the galactic west rather than the east he would have found the lion first and had more time to work on his social skills and become a loyal warmaster. Caliban was a far distance away from Terra while Cythonia (Horus’s planet) was so damn close warp travel wasn’t necessary its as if chaos maneuvered events in a way to keep El Johnson as far away from the emperor as long possible . one thing I love about the lion is the natural fear and unease he placed in both his brothers and in chaos which makes sense as fundamentally El Johnson is the older brother who ain’t adored of their big bro.

though the next video will be the place to put this as he's more morden but Azrael is one of my favorite space marine characters and has one the best lines from a space marine to put in context a mechanicus adept knows chaos marines are coming for her, and she's been in contact with Azrael thinks he's abandoned her, eventually she runs into a marine says she's not afraid and the chapter master of the dark angels, says " Really? Even in my wounded state, I thought I cut quite the imposing figure", think that gives him far more personality than brooding dark angel or humorless space marine, with their self importance view so skewed they probably expect dying people to wipe their own blood of his armour

I agree but for the dark angles as a whole. in the books despite still being fanatic battle monks who only think about how best to do their duty the dark angles still occasionally have a sense of humour be it sneaking into the chapter masters personal armoury or shooting their own librarians when they turn to chaos. and because of their honour beliefs they are able to show the human emotion of shame while other chapters wouldn't understand the concept

"To be honest if one Primarch's origin story was to be put in a movie or animated format, the Lion and his techno-knights fighting mutated monsters would probably be at the top of my list" I completely agree, after reading "Descent of Angels" my mind was totally captured by the shadow-haunted woodlands of Caliban. Dark angels are my main army i have 6 Tac squads 3 land raiders 3 devastator squads 3 predators 3 whirlwinds 3 bike squads 3 dreadnaughts 12 land speeders 2 HQ squads all squads are full strength also i have multiple Commanders including Azrael, Asmodai and Ezekiel, but my Fav,s are my 5 full strength Deathwing squads (i may be slightly obsessed) i,d love a Titan/Thunderhawk to finish of my Battle group but that might be a bit excessive

Personally that's how I feel about the Blood Ravens being thieves meme. They're one of the most badass chapters in the Imperium in my opinion, aside from the heresy that's DoW 3.

The Iron Warriors talk and complain a lot about being sent into the meat grinder for nasty compliance jobs, but you never hear about the Dark Angels complain about being used in the Rangdan Xenocides. Three separate campaigns that were so terrible it culled the 1st Legion's numbers from being the most numerous legion to being behind the Ultramarines.

Out of the probably 4 most played legion, dark angels are my favorite, mostly because of their wide use of plasma, combined with the knight/templar theme and colour combination of the dark green with the beige robes/coats.

FYI the dark angels of the 40k lead by Azreal created a warp rift in the caliban system due to a three way war there by accident which showed up during the final moments of the fight between the lion and luther which caused the fallen to be scattered... talk about self fulfilled prophecy.
