An exclusive behind-the-scenes look hosted by Robert Guillaume. From the deluxe VHS edition released in March 1995 (not seen on the 2003 special edition DVD).
tbh, tha entirety of tha casting was fucking inspired & perfection. it dont make sense, youd think itd seem dated asf wit voices from tha home improvement kid & whoopi goldberg & mr bean & such, but they performances transcend tha era of tha production & achieve a feeling of timelessness. ppl born in tha late 80s & early 90s was blessed beyond measure to be exposed to such media as lil kids oml
Thomas Fritsch who sadly passed away was Scars German voice. If you enjoyed Jeremy Irons I can promise you will enjoy Thomas Fritsch aswell. One of Germanys best voice actors.
"Mufasa's death was a terrible tragedy; but to lose Simba, who had barely begun to live... For me it is a deep personal loss. So it is with a heavy heart that I assume the throne. Yet, out of the ashes of this tragedy, we shall rise to greet the dawning of a new era... in which lion and hyena come together, in a great and glorious future!"
They both have a voice where they could read a thriller book and make it powerful so if they made a movie just having a conversation it would be a epic movie. The Lion King really did well with the casting of the characters
BEST PART? When the Directors acknowledged Mr. Jones' voice is like that of a Lion when it grumbles and then he says. "Remember....." GETS ME EVERYTIME
I love how no one at Disney expected Lion King to do well, they thought Pocahontas would do better, but it beat their expectations. One of my favourite films 🧡🦁
I completely agree with you and it's not because it's my all time favourite movie Disney is know for their hand drawn animated movies and "The Lion King" just happens to be the highest-grossing hand drawn animated movie of all time.
They didn't even mention that Jim Cummings voiced Ed, and sang the rest of "Be Prepared" (after the lyrics "You won't get a sniff without me!"), or that Madge Sinclair did the voice of Serabi.
Jacob M. Keene ed is not an important character. he doesn't even talk, he just laughs madly. that's why he was not mentioned. and sarabi is not as important as sazu either.
The fact that The Lion King (and it's predecessors) were all hand drawn just baffles me. I mean that just adds to the Disney Magic, which I think just isn't in any of the current Disney movies..
Honestly, no matter what medium you choose, when you have this many people working this hard and with this much passion you are bound to achieve something great.
sweet candy agree and one of my favorite Disney movies and movie in general and another of my favorite Disney movies are the jungle book , Tarzan and brother bear
it's funny how Jeremy Irons mentioned that the characters look so much like the actors. Yesterday i was watching The Borgias for the first time on Netflix, and i was already drilled into the first few minutes of the show because of how much Scar and Jeremy are alike. it was so creepy and awesome :3
TheUltimateCatLady In my opinion, I like James Horan and David Oyelowo’s voices of Scar better because those guys behave like gentlemen while Jeremy Irons and Jim Cummings act like savages. In other words, Chiwetel Ejiofor will be the best and John Vickery would have been the worst.
i think there's a picture of me in 1998 in my dad's room I have that big straight hair and mullet and a terqoise on one side and purple on the other shirt and loved Lion King Pokemon and Jurassic Park the 90s was a good decade for these movies 2000 was a bit of it to
2D is by far my favorite animation style. While I do like 3D, 2D will forever have my heart, and I've always wanted to be a 2D animator! So that is what I've been working on. But enough of that. I do agree with you, and I do wish that there were more 2D movies/TV shows. My opinion .3.
NaniGaming I mean come on 3D animation is beautiful I mean look at the animation in movies like toy story, finding Nemo , monsters inc , the Incredibles , shrek , despicable me , ice age , Madagascar , Kung fu panda and how to train your dragon and there’s some things 3D animation can do that 2d can’t
Even today, with the technology in the film making industry, no organization is able to produce such work that truly outstands the test of time..even Disney itself, even now in 2016 I still appreciate this piece of art that highlights the earliest stages of my life. I envy each and every one who worked on this project, must've been an amazing experience.
So are we just gonna ignore the fact that Robert Guillaume is just casually standing next to a full grown male lion out in the open like that? Man's got balls of steel
Amanda Rodriguez To be completely honest- my very favorite voices of Scar are James Horan and David Oyelowo because those guys behave like gentlemen while Jeremy Irons and Jim Cummings act like savages. In other words, Chiwetel Ejiofor will do a great job and a much better job of doing the voice of that scraggly lion than John Vickery.
@@willrobinson3662 2019 Scar doesn't have the same gravitasse as Jeremy Irons, nor the sarcasm and other dynamic that makes him my favorite Disney character.
My favorite character is Rafiki and this my favorite Disney movie and movie in general another of my favorite Disney movies are Tarzan , the jungle book , dumbo and brother bear
James and Jeremy are wonderful actors but Matthew Broderick deserve the same credit, his voice is so sexy ** and of course Jonathan really embodiment the spirit of Simba.
Nathan Lane’s contribution has been underrated - especially his singing. His start to Can you feel the love tonight was indispensable. His Hakuna Matata was fabulous.
They should have mentioned that Jim Cummings sang the last verse of Jeremy Irons' main song 'Be Prepared' as Irons' voice gave out and became to weak after he yelled the line 'you won't get a sniff without me'
James Earl Jones has such a MAJESTIC voice!!! Perfect voice for Mufasa!! His little "chat" with his son from the other side still sends shivers down my spine!!!
Omg me too I was like freakin 2. I literally cried like a toddler when the music was too loud when something bad was happening like if the hyenas were chasing simba or mufasa's death omg I wanted to leave. Then after a couple months I told my mom I wanna go back and see the whole thing that was like watching the godfather in my time a freakin masterpiece imagine this movie in theatres daaamn. I'm a year older than the lion king by the way I was already one when it came out lol
We'll never have another great 2D Disney classic of this quality again. Everything was on point. Songs, art, color, morals, voice actors, life lessons. Every scene of this movie was perfect and it's probably the most "down to Earth" Disney movie ever made, not just a senseless fairy tale of princesses.
FeatheryStudio Eeeh yeah sure, but it makes me sad that see that most big western animation studios are moving to 3D for feature lengths. I'm somewhat bored of it... that's why I actually appreciate when they make movies like Coraline, because stop motion... THAT is another lost art, and looks WAAAAAY better than any CG movie.
Its movies like this that I miss...movies that catches emotions....the actors were casted perfectly...made for this movie. im 27....and still watch this movie and listen to the songs like it just came out yesterday lol....love it. classic! I watched it with my niece and nephew for the first time.....and the same day we watch Aladdin and I've never seen them watch a movie so intensely.
The scene with Mufasa appearing to Simba in the clouds in the movie and in the musical stage play gets me in tears every time. I cry all the time when I watch the film because it reminds me of my father. My father was just like Mufasa when ever disobeyed him and yet I must say I learned a lot of from my father. Mufasa reminds me of my father in a lot of lines.
Hans Zimmer is almost singularly one of the biggest reasons that The Lion King became, Disney's best animated film of all time! The animators themselves also proved that you can make a masterpiece without live-action actors! No wonder The Lion King earnt the awards it did, and for me it is the last great feature length film Disney ever produced. After that they joined with Pixar and bought us Toy Story, which is still the best animated film, but The Lion King really innovated animation! The Lion King was the first film I ever watched, I was one when it came out and I still have it on VHS
I'm so proud of the Disney animators in this version of the film because they literally took effort to animate the bloopers in the recording session and added it to the end credits of the film.
Mufasa and Adult Nala are my favorites. I bet you anything Nala's voice actress is also a good singer. Her voice is both clear and soft. This whole cast is awesome.
Tylar Mae To tell the truth- Robert Guillaume was an American actor who was born in 1927 and died in 2017. Also, if I should find out what happened to Zoe Leader, she was an American actress who was born in 1949 and died in 2015. And another thing, Madge Sinclair was a Jamaican actress who was born in 1938 and died in 1995.
Reason why Lion King is better than Frozen is because the Lion King not only appeals to kids but adults also. I've watched this as a kid and now a young adult and realizing there are so many adult jokes 🤣
Man I used to hate 90s clothing styles, but watching this video I really like what people are wearing in the interviews. I kind of hope 90s styles come back again. Our clothing styles today are too bland and uniform. The clothing people wore in the 90s was so colorful.
They had a great voice cast , it's amazing !!! This is why it's one of the greatest animated films, Jeremy irons and James earl jones was beyond awesome👌🏼
Everytime I hear a song from this movie I'm kid again. Disney gave me a beautiful childhood. And I will show my daughter all the movies I watched (and the new ones although they don't give me the same feeling) but I'm sure they'll give her the same joy and moral as it gave me as a kid. Love everyone that made Disney possible. And the background singers in lion king. The african music, so beautiful.
I wish Disney would do another animal film in the footsteps of The Lion King, Bambi, The Jungle Book, The Fox & The Hound. A film set in the arctic with wolves, polar bears, orcas, snowy owls, snow hares, moose, penguins, and arctic foxes. It can loosely be based on Homer's The Odyssey and focuses on members of a wolf pack trying to make it back home to reclaim their territory and pack from an evil treacherous wolf that has taken over the pack while at the same time crossing orca infested waters, dodging poachers, and trying to evade a rogue one eyed polar bear.
They are woring on a movie about a fox who is being framed for a crime he didn't do, and a rabbit who is a cop, who is chasing the fox, The movie are called Zootopia
This film is incredibly majestic, and it stands tall alongside the other great epics Star Wars, Forrest Gump, The Lord of the Rings, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and Lawrence of Arabia.
It’s unbelievably visually amazing and texture detailed. Each palate each visual clip is absolutely on its own in this movie. The animal detail is over the top.
I can't thank you enough for posting this! I taped it on the Disney Channel when I was 12 years old on VHS, and lost it to time and as media changed. I miss this era of Disney and Traditional Animation so much. They used to present their films with such love and reverence, and these behind the scenes specials were an annual event for me that heralded in Summer and the newest inspiration for my path as an artist. This is such a blessing to watch again for the first time in 17 years! Bless you! :)
This movie is very special to me because it was released during a very tender time in my childhood. My father had died a year prior to its release so in a lot of ways I feel very much like Simba. Of course, I didn't make the connection back then but now, almost 20 years later, I see how much I've been positively impacted by it. And for that I thank you, Walt Disney Studios.
RIP Roy Disney. Under him Disney was better and made films that touched the hearts of all people. The Lion King is more than a Disney or animated masterpiece, the movie itself will go down as one of the best of all times. I dont know about the rest of yall but as a 80 year old woman I will STILL be watching the Lion King and STILL remember all the wonderful songs
"...lyrics you'll be humming for years to come." he was kidding when he said that, it 2017 and lion king still has the greatest musical till today since 1994(i think cant remember when it was first aired i was a toddler, but still grew up luvin it)
This is one of many videos that inspired me to become a movie maker. I hadn't seen it for many years, and as I watch it now, it brings tears to my eyes.
Thank you so much for uploading this! I've always looked for the making-off! Now, after 25 years, I am able to watch it! Thanks! The lion king is the best movie ever! No matter how old I am - this is a masterpiece.
I love it how he sYs "with tunes I'm sure u will be humming for years to come" it amazing because it's now officially 20 years old and the songs are still such an influence on disney and media
@@elenzo1986 Roy E. Disney was Walt’s nephew actually, not his son, because Roy E. Disney was the son of Walt’s elder brother Roy O. Disney. There’s two Roy Disney’s, the brother and the nephew. Walt’s nephew Roy is the one that’s featured in this video.
7:45 Jeremy Irons has said that he was quite crushed that they made Scar so scraggy compared to Mufasa, thinking that this must have been how the animators saw him!
God save James! What a powerful voice! My respects, To a powerful dark lord of the sith. Each line combines power and wisdom, glad to be alive listening to this spectacular actor! Irons also gave an incredible performance.
Masterpiece! Captures the essence of Disney, from the drawings, colors, sounds and music, it all adds to the feeling this film delivers. Even if this movie gets redone this one will remain classic and original. A Favorite
He was completely right to the fact that we will still be singing along to these songs many years after the film was released!! The Loin King is by far my favourite Disney film EVER!!! :D
