during the song 'be prepared', the line that blew his vocals was 'you won't get a sniff without me'. Since The Lion King was considered the less important movie (compared to pocahontas), they did not have the time to wait for him to recover, and Jim Cummings (the voice of Ed) took over the last part of the song.

AichiKitsune how was it the less important movie if they didn’t have the time to let him recover? If it’s less important, then they aren’t on a deadline to get it out. If it’s more important, then they don’t have time to let him rest and they need to bring in someone so they can finish it.

I think you miss understood. Lion King was considered the 'less important' movie, compared to pocahontas, which the A-team was working on, which means they had to abide to a strict deadline, which couldn't be pushed. Pushing a deadline costs money for the studio, and is therefore not done unless the studio consider it a big or important movie.

DG funny enough it was actually Jim Cummings, who voiced one of the hyenas in this movie. And yeah, I believe Jeremy Irons stops singing after “you won’t get a sniff without me”. Cummings did a great job, but if you listen close you can ever so slightly tell it’s another person. Really cool trivia!

There's a video on youtube of Cummings on a convention panel saying that what they used in the final version was all him singing the song; that Irons had recorded a version but his voice was too gravely not from blowing his voice on that line, but just from decades of smoking.

Kikyo4815 interesting info, but I'm not convinced by that for the following reasons: It's quite noticeably a different voice, and someone mimicking an accent, after "you won't get a sniff without me", and this clip we have of Jeremy Irons singing sounds very much like the same voice up until that point, and in fact, might even be the same take that was used in the movie, at least for some lines. Also the voice no longer syncs up with Scar's movements very well at the point where it seems to change, in the movie. Has anyone else noticed that? The way this video is edited also makes it seem more obvious that the voice changes, for that last "be prepared"... where it no longer seems to match Jeremy Irons' performance, visually... Jim Cummings probably did record a complete take and they may have intended to use his whole performance for the movie, but perhaps those involved with editing realised later on that it didn't match the visuals very well, and as a compromise, only replaced the part where they felt Jeremy Irons' voice sounded too rough?

Jeremy Irons didn't even want to play Scar at first. After he signed on though, you can tell he was having a blast and he was willing to come back for the remake. Of course Disney, being idiots, didn't hire him.

Yeah the live action was pretty bad… if they’d made them more like the characters and less like national geographic it probably would if worked much better. Them making it too realistic ruined the feel the original lion king film gave to many. It was no longer the lion king ya know
