I didn't record this. Beyond my wildest dreams Les Poissons /!\ For those who ask why Ariel is singing whereas she is supposed to have lost her voice, these are her thoughts. The main singer can't stay mute for half of the musical.
It's SO obvious that she's singing her thoughts. The fact that everyone on stage isn't paying attention to what shes saying and the opening line to her song "I wonder what's going on in that pretty little head of yours..." Its kinda REALLY obvious. I love that they had Ariel sing her thoughts during her time on land because I've always wished they could have been expressed in some way in the movie.
It bothers me that people don't understand the fact that "Beyond My Wildest Dreams" occurs in her head. These people don't understand what a soliloquy or a monologue is. They don't understand theatre. They other people can't hear her because she's not saying anything, everything is happening in her head. It's not that hard to understand. This is theatre, not a movie. They have to change stuff. Why would they make her mute?
This was the pre-Broadway version and it looks like they made some changes to this scene in later versions, to clarify this very point. I'm playing Grimsby in the current public version and he is the one who leads the scene, not the lead maid as shown above. Immediately before Ariel begins to sing, Grimsby is standing off to the side and says, " I cannot help wondering what she's thinking. I'd give a farthing or two to hear her thoughts." , then she starts singing... her thoughts.
What I find even more ridiculous is that people would even need to read it to realize why. What director would have the main character be silent throughout the second half of the play, especially when said character is being played by someone as talented as Sierra Boggess.
I always wondered why she never just wrote it all down. "I'm the girl who saved you, but I'm a mermaid and had to give away my voice to a witch in order to become human, and now you have to kiss me so I can get my voice back and be human forever."
Dialogue: "I wonder what goes on in that silly head of hers." Dumb youtubers: "HEY SHE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO SING!" Lyrics: "Just stands there gawking, weird how she's not talking." Dumb youtubers: "SHE SHOULDN'T BE SPEAKING!." I don't think the complainers are even actually listening to the song. They just want to complain.
To anyone else who thinks to ask the question, Carlotta says "I wonder what's going on in that little head of yours" right before she leaves. So it is most likely her thought process.
This whole song is fabulous! one of my favorite additions to the original and Sierra Boggess killed it!!! I also JUST REALIZED WHO HEIDI BLICKENSTAFF IS AND I LOVE HER!!! i get to play Carlotta in my church’s production and I’m so happy to see it was originated by a beautiful actress!!!!
Her singing is non-diegetic which means what she is "singing" is external to the narrative. We can probably imagine that she is saying or "singing" all this in her mind but the audience needs to hear it and as this is a musical, what better way than for her to sing it. Beautiful voice!
i LOVE this song. i have the sound track but i've never seen it before till now. this just makes me love it EVEN more! also, one day, i WILL play ursula. fact.
I don't know why more people aren't talking about that Les Poissons scene. It made me giggle a little too much and I bet that actor was having fun with that role.
Are people still asking that question just to tick us off?! It's self-explanitory. Carlotta says "Ican't help but wonder. What's going on in that pretty little head of hers?" Ariel then goes into song. She's letting teh audience in on her inner thoughts. That's all there is to it.
Is really means from beyond my wildest dreams between Arie's dream just to live like a human being is very hard to understand what is going on with her. Even though people have big changes because there are many people have something but Arie is actually a mermaid this is a beautiful musical show and story is about her and mermaid family and humans from generation
lol a while back when i first learned that disney would make a little mermaid Broadway show i was all how can se sing when shes mute and being into stage acting i realized inner monologue or her own feelings or thoughts lol
@JulieWinchester You know the whole Le possions song just makes you questions Louie's sanity and you don't if you know if you should laugh, cry, piss your pants in fear or throw up.
@cowtowngrl Besides, the Lady who introduces the song says "I can't help but wonder, what's going on in that pretty little head of yours..." It's like introducing the song as her thoughts or aka a soliloquy.
I also wondered. I know the sea creatures can write because Sebastian wrote symphonies. Eric was also the kind of guy who would believe in mermaids. Of course, Disney wouldn't have had any drama in the story then...
@pokemonumbreon1 I'm thinking they made Gisele look like Ariel for "Enchanted" to add to the parallels between the previous Disney movies and "Enchanted". But yes, she looks like Amy Adams.
well that's why the made it the kiss of true love otherwise the now human mermaid could just give him a kiss out of no where and she stayed human forever and got her voice
I wondered that too. I think that first, there would have been no drama intensity with Ursula charming Eric (in the movie), and second, what were the chances that he believed her ? He would probably think she was crazy...

Do we have to put in caps! Carlotta says at 0:53-0:55 "I wonder what's goiing on in that pretty little head of hers." It's pretty simple. "This song is her INNER THOUGHTS! I don't know how I can make that easier to understand.
you know, i didn't get this in the movie either, why didn't she just write down what happened to her so eric would know that she'd just lost her voice but she really was the girl he was looking for? There was no stipulation against that in the contract...

Nope when Ariel dines with Eric and grimsby she is wearing the pink dress. But when prince Eric takes her on a tour of the kingdom she is then wearing yhe blue dress
