both Chloe (her older sister by 2 years) and Halle have been acting in small roles since they were kids, she's filmed a few movies since filming this one but she was also in the show Grown-ish for like 4 seasons (then she left to film TLM)
This trailer just made me get teary eyed casue when I was a kid I'm 28 now but when I was about 5 I was obsessed with this and mermaids as a kids but the music and the Nostalgic feeling it brings hits homes hard for me
this is a easily definite DOPE I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS this is THE live action movie i am looking forward to the most i kinda wish her hair was much more brighter but she sounds INCREDIBLE AHHHHH CANNOT WAIT
I don't even have a huge connection to Little Mermaid. I watched it as a kid and loved it but haven't seen it for years and yet this trailer brought a tear to my eye. I honestly can't wait, and Daveed Diggs as Sebastian is going to be amazing!
This is my favorite princess of all time, Ariel is that girl!! I sobbed when I saw the trailer. What her character represents is so much bigger than the source material. The story, the music & the representation that Halle is going to bring to a new generations is just beyond. I know I'm gonna need a box of tissues for the theater! I have a feeling this film is going to be record breaking.
Halle is going to be awesome in this movie! It may be the best live action remake. Her voice is unreal!!! Halle and Chloe are actually not twins, Chloe is 2 years older and they were in a series called grownish. Halle has also recently finished filming the colour purple remake. I think she is about to really blow up, and I hope she is strong enough to withstand any hate. She is a special talent
Halle & her sister Chloe were both on the show Grown-ish, the Black-ish spin-off, for the 1st few seasons. That's the only acting I've seen from her. She's so perfect for this role of Ariel. It's like she was born for it
My grandmother took me to see my first movie in the theatre which turned out to be the little mermaid and she passed away during the pandemic so the nostalgia feels is in full throttle.
I’m 30 now when I was little I used to be obsessed mermaids and Ariel was (and still is) my favorite Disney princess so when casting was announced I had no issues cuz the little mermaid takes place in the Caribbean Sea so Ariel should be black. Anywho I’ve seen this teaser too many times now and I still tear up idk why but I can’t wait till 2023.
Halle is like a siren because I am just mesmerized. People think her being black is going to stop people from going to the theater. I think it’s going to be a turn out like no other. I’ll be there May 2023.

Ariel was originally supposed to have darker skin because of the area she's located in that it would literally be ridiculous to have someone with pale skin to be Ariel no offense it just plays on like the race of the area but I don't know maybe many are not educated enough.
"They were six beautiful children; but the youngest was the prettiest of them all; her skin was as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf, and her eyes as blue as the deepest sea." - Hans Christian Anderson, The Little Mermaid
@@dr.emilschaffhausen4683 Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Adam and Eve aren't white. Yet black and brown ppl have not demanded that you replace these false images with images that accurately reflect the race of these important figures. To this day, your people are still portraying Jesus, Son of God, as "Cesare Borgia," who was a disturbed, degenerate pervert and hedonist. This is complete disrespect and also blasphemy, yet you're complaining about a fictional character. How about you guys fix your mistake first? And then we will follow. You give up Adam and Eve, Jesus and the Virgin Mary, and then we'll give you back Ariel... Entitled brat.
@@dr.emilschaffhausen4683 that's all well and good, but that's a book from before the 19th century. What did humans know about melanin and the effects of living deep in the ocean? Realistically, it makes sense that she's black because most sea creatures who live that deep beneath the ocean are dark(brown/blue/black).
Underwater is actually dark and this is a live action movie. The animation is dark to, but it´s an animation and for children and they show colors under water dark but with unreal colors that made the animation suitable and interesting for children to watch. What I want for live action movies? Realist human scenes!
Ariel is not a human, she's a mermaid and a FICTIONAL character. So it's so annoying and ridiculous when everytime people say "Ariel it's not black", or "Oh, Disney using her as a propaganda", like b* shut up, as long she has red hair, green tail, purple bra, and a great singing voice. That's Ariel for me
I agree. I'm sorry to say this but back then when I found out that she was going to play Ariel, I instantly became well.... Disappointed cause Aurora was white in the remake like the original, Cinderella was also white like the original and Belle was white as well... I knew the casting probably when I was 12 or 13, I don't remember. But I instantly hated the casting cause like other people, I hated the she wasn't white like Ariel. But after hearing her voice when she sang Can You Feel The Love Tonight in Disneyland, I instantly love her voice and accepted her as Ariel. From the moment I heard her voice and saw her beauty and emotions, I knew she was perfect as Ariel!! I instantly changed my mind. Till today I support her as Ariel and I support the people who casted in the movie and other movies. Even in Pinocchio, I supported Cynthia as the Blue Fairy!! She was stunning and so elegant even though the movie ,according to some people, is bad, I still enjoy it though. I'll keep supporting the casting for Disney movies. I apologise if my comment is long or I was being a bit racist. I was too young at the time, now I'm 17 and I accept any beauty in and out.
The only thing I'm worried about is the direction, some CGI problems, the storyline, some unnecessary parts of the film. Overall, I'm happy with the casting, the costume and I saw a screenshot of Halle's last day of shooting and her hair was more red like the original. I can't see it clearly cause the camera was a little far away but it's more red than here. And can't wait to see Lin Manuel Miranda as one of the song writers!!! And also Melissa McCarthy as Ursula!! Can't wait to hear her sing Poor Unfortunate Souls!!
Hans Christian Andersen wrote little mermaid and if u think the only change they made to that story after they made an animation of his story was making it kid friendly is not accurate .. Disney changed the original story when they made the animation .. yes they did .. Prince Eric didn’t even marry the little mermaid 🧜♀️ in the original story He married someone else ..she was so broken hearted she didn’t want to live anymore .. well anyway she became foam etc. so they made changes and made their own version .. if they had stuck to how the story really went We wouldn’t have that little mermaid animation movie u love so much … so now here we are over thirty years later and now .. they now they are making changes from the animation version like the animation version made changes from how the original story was written ….. if u really want to stick to the historical accuracy of the little mermaid .. what a morbid 😢ending that would have been but at least it would have been accurate … and if u dig even deeper you will find the guy that wrote the little mermaid 🧜♀️ was writing really about himself and portrayed himself as the little mermaid cause he loved someone who didn’t return his love and who married someone else .. that would be the prince in the story .. Disney took liberties and change the little mermaid and it’s ending .. maybe people who know the real little mermaid story or the one who actually wrote it would be mad the story got changed many many years later … and made into an animation .. and didn’t stick to the original story .. thirty years later .. here we are .. this isn’t the first time changes were made we got a new kid on the block .. and Halle is amazing and thirty years into the future .. more changes .. nothing stays the same .. and how boring lifeless if it did
Chloe and Halle aren't twins, Chloe 2 years older, but they play twins on Grown ish, Halle also finished filming Color purple, she's the younger sister that Mister wanted, and she's just been picked for another movie I can't remember what it's called, I'M SO WAITING ON THE LITTLE MERMAID 🙏
Lets get real, I fell in love with the characters and I also fell in love with Ariel's luscious fire red hair.........why is the hair in braids this time?.....this really sucks man.
Nope! She has 4 fins? I’ll need to see more before I’ll like it. Pinocchio was bad too. I think they have no new ideas so they are falling back on nostalgia to get your money.
There are thousands of beautiful stories that originate from Africa and South America that POC people can play. Little mermaid is part of European culture, part of our heritage. White washing in the past was very wrong, this need to force diversity in our stories is also wrong. If you can't see it you are no different from the racists from the past. Black panther was written by two white men, it isn't a part of African heritage however he is written as black for decades and embraced as black character by African American community. It would be wrong to turn him suddenly Latino, Chinese or White. Think about it. Wheel of fortune always turns, today you are on top tomorrow you are not.
Just because I want my Ariel to be white doesn't make me a racist. By that logic let's cast a white black panther and see how the world reacts. Hell in the horror genre they casted a new Pinhead in the new hellraiser Hulu movie. A transgender female Pinhead. Sorry not interested. There's a difference between being racist and racial. All I ask is to look at both sides of the coin.
Black Panther literally has the word black in it… and Wakanda is like a Black-African nation… sure doesn’t mean your racist, but you know there are those out there that will point it out because of that.
@@NopeorDopeReviews okay then let's go with Black Adam. And I love the rock. The rock is my childhood hero. Correct me if I'm wrong black Adam is a white character. And yes black panther has black in it but just imagine if Hollywood casted someone of a different skin color other than black to play black panther.
@@daquane Black Panther is a fictional character living in a fictional country created by 2 white men so who says he has to be black? why couldn't a white person play as him, Anyone can wear the black suit and be called the Black Panther .
No worries, It's all a battle of either "Preserving how things were." v.s. "Seeing what can be." There's a nuance to this dance we are all participating in. Not that many choose to see the neutral path where everyone wins. At this time, plans are being made by certain fans to change this character to it's respective 1989 version once they get a hold of the video files next year. For the sake of honoring, respecting, and preserving the authenticity of what the character looked like as it transitions to live-action. Meanwhile Disney is doing what it can to be more inclusive with The Little Mermaid film. There reaching new audiences in it's non-white consumers. It's a win-win for everyone. Just give it time for the "Preserved" version, but if you don't want to wait, by all means watch the Modern Disney version. At the end of the day, I encourage everyone to see, and support both versions. That way, you can see for yourself what version captivated you the most.
The part where Ariel says "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure" made me tear up. This is going to be the best adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's classic. So stunning...so brave.
Since when did Ariel have braids lol…first the blue fairy and now this…STOP RACE SWAPPING….how would you feel if Blade casted a white guy instead and get rid of that childhood classic we grew up with…I’m expecting them to have the new live action Hercules starring a brown Indian boy at this rate just with “orange hair” to resemble the original look somewhat….diversity bullshit not needed.
You might call it racist cause people are upset she isn’t white, but in reality those people understand the literature and she was described as white by the actual author. The biggest change they did with the animated movie was make it more kid friendly.
@@CafeDeDuy……Quote 1 “He fixed his coal-black eyes upon her so earnestly that she cast down her own, and then became aware that her fish's tail was gone, and that she had as pretty a pair of WHITE legs and tiny feet as any little maiden could have; but she had no clothes, so she wrapped herself in her long, thick hair.”. Quote 2 “The slaves next performed some pretty fairy-like dances, to the sound of beautiful musis. Then the little mermaid raised her lovely WHITE arms, stood on the tips of her toes, and glided over the floor, and danced as no one yet had been able to dance. At each moment her beauty became more revealed, and her expressive eyes appealed more directly to the heart than the songs of the slaves. Every one was enchanted, especially the prince, who called her his little foundling; and she danced again quite readily, to please him, though each time her foot touched the floor it seemed as if she trod on sharp knives.” Quote 3 “The little mermaid leaned her WHITE arms on the edge of the vessel, and looked towards the east for the first blush of morning, for that first ray of dawn that would bring her death. She saw her sisters rising out of flood: they were as pale as herself; but their long beautiful hair waved no more in the wind, and had been cut off.” Guess you didn’t read it as well as you thought.
