If you can't tell from my outlandish behavior that I am excited to see Ms. Halle Bailey in Lin Manuel Miranda's new "The Little Mermaid" teaser trailer, then I don't know how to help you. Haha D23 Expo #d23expo has been dropping a bunch of new trailers for us to get excited about, but I had to do mine on this trailer because of the nostalgia alone. Were there any other trailers released tonight that got you running to Disney+ for a subscription? I saw clips of both the "Disenchanted" and "Hocus Pocus" trailers and they looked soooo good. \

I'm so glad they cast Halle Bailey to be Ariel. It makes it more authentic because if you grew up watching the Little Mermaid and listening to the songs like I did, you'd be able to tell that The Mermaid kingdom was located in the Caribbean. Every time Sebastian sang or had others sing with him it was all Caribbean music which is a beautiful genre of music that always makes me want to dance and sing alone. Also, Halle's voice in this trailer brought happy tears to my eyes and took me back to my childhood.

THANK YOU!! Ever since putting this video up, I've had "Under the Sea" stuck in my head. The music is so distinct and iconic. And you're right it's meant to set us in our location...the Caribbean haha. This change feels more like they're making sense of an original artistic choice. I am also glad that you felt transported back. Definitely felt my inner child singing tonight. I hear there's going to be additional original songs by Lin Manuel Miranda, and all I have to say is... he's got a tall order to fill. I'm so excited to see it!!

Nobody hates her. Why dont yall get it? Its simple. They changed an already establish character. This is not the first time a movie producing company did this. We are tired of it. The Little Mermaid is my Favorite Disney movie. I never imagined I would see someone that looked like me playing Ariel. Halle is going to be Awesome! I'm Excited for ALL of it. When they made the decision to cast Halle in the beginning, I was worried. She received so much unwanted hate just for accepting the opportunity to make a whole new generation smile and I was nervous that maybe Hollywood set her up to fail. I think I hold onto my hope still just in case. But seeing her on that screen just made me so overwhelmed because she's gorgeous, she's ethereal. She's a lot of things that I feel like a lot of people tell black women they can't be. And yeah I'm probably overreaching and putting too much weight on a kid's movie, but isn't that the point? Bringing people together? Also ----------- omg you're too sweet! I'm *not* crying while writing this!😭

I'm so glad that I was able to share this moment with you all! Since this video came out I've seen cute reaction videos of younger black girls and the joy in their faces make it worth it. I just hope that the movie is solid, has a good script, and isn't afraid to think out of the box in terms of imagination and originality.

Love your reaction. The Little Mermaid has been my favourite since it came out in 89 I was just about 3. I cannot wait for this. It just looks perfection, her voice is so beautiful, the tail is amazing, she looks stunning. Perfect casting. Not Dutch but Danish. Hans Christian Andersen, the original author of The Little Mermaid was from Denmark. But I agree with other commenters here saying the original 1989 animated movie takes place in the Carribean, which makes Halle's casting perfect because of that, as well as her singing.

My impressions: Generic setting that seems more like a documentary, the same song sung in the same way, a performance flatter than a wall, the same costumes worthy of a cosplayer, a teaser with a lousy edition aimed only at those who saw The Little Mermaid 89. With a voice with a lot of energy and passion as the only salvageable point. In short: the same but without the inspiration and innovation that the original had. Howard Ashman will roll over in his grave
