She is not Halle Berry. She is Halle Bailey a complete different person and even completely different ages. And Halle Bailey is not basic but amazingly talented.

Well, in my opinion it depends on the character. A character like Tiana or Mulan, their stories revolve around their race and culture. Tiana was a black women trying to make her dreams come true in early America where women and black people had little rights and she had to work hard and forgo a lot. Mulan is Chinese, her culture is part of her story and the fact that she is a women is ingrained in her story. So it would not make sense to have a WHITE OR BLACK Mulan, or a WHITE TIANA…. Ariel’s story isn’t based on any historical or cultural character. Her race, in our definition is NOT tied to her story. Mermaids are not real, thus her race doesn’t mater. Please take a second to try to understand what i am saying before responding. Finally, for years, decades even, POCs have had to consume media not made for them with very little representation. And sometimes the representation they did receive was never positive. Those stories were told by white ppl, for white ppl and portrayed by white ppl. POCs had to connect with those stories and had to watch their own stories be told incorrectly by ppl who don’t understand or respect those stories. So, if there is a story where race doesn’t matter, why make it matter? Why is it such a horrible thing to see someone other than those that look like you? Especially when you and those that look like you are not the only ppl who will be watching said stories? Please consider trying to make space for others when it doesn’t come at a detriment to you sometimes especially when young children will be watching.

Why did'nt they just make a whole new mermaid movie. No one from their childhood remember the little mermaid being black. its not even accurate and disrespects true fans who were raised with these cartoons.

And want to show it from a different perspective and have a different representation of a mermaid. And want to give voice to a different representation of a mermaid. Because there a mermaids in many different cultures. They have simply chosen that they don't want to make machine remake. And I think it is very telling about our society how people are getting very triggered by the thought of a Black person being center of a major film. Why should putting a Black person as Ariel in Little mermaid be a disrespectful thing? Why should people be so offended to the extent that they are. It is very telling of how they think about black people. Because if society really thought of Black people as equals, then thought of a Black mermaid wouldn't be so triggering to them. Because at the end of the day the core of the story will be told of a mermaid wanting to be free.
