I play this song in my car for my 3 year old daughter on road trips. Puts her right to sleep every time. But 10 years ago this song served a different purpose. A darker one, one that helped me get through that time in my life. A year later I met my future wife and things haven't been the same since. Now I have a family and we listen to LP during all our roads trips and it's not going to stop. Thanks Chester for helping me through my dark times and I wish I could have helped you through yours. I hope you found peace. Update: I recently separated from my wife back in December of 2020. It is June of 2021 now. We've both moved on and I have found someone else that I love very much. My ex wife and I have decided to remain friends and coparent our daughter. This song has yet again helped me through another dark chapter in my life and will continue to. My life has changed and I'm happy for it and so is my ex wife. Sometimes life doesn't work out the way you think it will and everything happens for a reason. I hope this change is for the better. I feel like it is. Stay positive everyone and always keep your happiness priority #1!

People talk about songs like Numb, Crawling, etc. But songs like this along with Drawbar, No Roads Left, and many others, are truly amazing and showed their creative depth. I think people will look back at certain songs like this one and realize that this band was misunderstood when they initially existed. Time will only tell.

I was 15 when Katrina happened. My family and I decided to not celebrate Christmas that year and go volunteer in NO instead . We were rejected by every single organization we called since my brother and I were underage. We still didn’t celebrate Christmas that year and decided to just take the money we were going to spend and donate it since it’s all we could do. To this day when we talk about that year my mom still gets teary eyed because she feels guilty for not helping more. I’m not saying all this to look good but just wanted you to know there were people out there trying to help in whatever way they could……. The way our country handled that situation as a whole was pathetic though

I fully agree, it's also my all-time most favorite LP song. This track meant so much to me when it was released. I know it was for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and I was 7 at that time (and continents away from the tragedy), but this song ultimately helped me decide with a moral dilemma I was put on to, as I've noticed all the bullying I went through at that time and didn't know how to react. Should I be the more honest and secretly kind type of person? Or should I be more of a person who knows how to fit themselves with others depending on the situation? Even I didn't believe I was put in that kind of dilemma at that age. But I'm glad this song helped me with it.

LP's tribute to the people lost in Hurricane Katrina. To understand this song, it's necessary to understand the devastation caused by that hurricane, and the levees that broke and flooded the poorer neighborhoods. That it's an allegory for a personal story is to better understand its meaning. This is a masterful arrangement.

@lalitasharma2366
@lalitasharma2366 7 лет назад
Just give another try to A Thousand Suns. It's the most innovative album. It's the Album not just a compilation of tracks. To realize it's epicness you have to hear it from the beginning without skipping any tracks, without any pauses till the end. It's a concept album about Nuclear war & apocalypse. It contains ambient speeches & snippets to strengthen that feeling( even though title 'A Thousand Suns' give shivers). Each track is unique, ending of most tracks is the beginning to next ones, with each track a kind of event is narrated. Whole album flows like this, it's a Prog album. The album is like a SINGLE MEGA TRACK of 48 minutes. Also Living Things has best production, there's not even a single bad track on Living Things. Roads Unraveled, I'll be gone, IN my remains, Powerless etc are the best rest are good. Hunting Party is the only weak album with 2-3 good tracks rest all are repetitive, forced I would give first five albums 5/5 and hunting party 2.5/5.

According to myself, The Little Things Give You Away is the best song ever by Linkin Park, as MTM is their best album. Throught all these years, there have been many and many and many times when I thought and said I would have attended their next live in Italy. Now I know that that day will never come. The first time I heard Chester's voice I was ten or eleven, now I'm 21. His death is being hard to realize and it will surely hurt for a long time already. But what a great honor to have grown up whit him. I'll always be thankful to LP, for have guided me to listen good music and love Art, and to live my life trying to tell something more to the people, as next as far they are to us. I would have so more to write, but I guess this has been enough. Thank You So Much Chester, my dear major brother. Keep on Rocking in the free world, always.

I will say, I'm in the same place now. MtM was the first LP album I bought but somehow I completely overlooked this song. I honestly don't remember it from my teenage years. I guess I was more into Given Up and Bleed it Out back then to even notice a masterpiece like this. Then I kinda fell away from their music for personal reasons right before LT was released but came back a couple months ago and started listening to their new stuff and it's reminded me how much I love them. So I've been thinking about going to a concert and decided to listen to each of their albums start to finish and I got to this song and I'm shocked I didn't pay attention to it. I looked up the lyrics and meaning and cried my way through it. And there have been a lot of songs like this that I've completely fallen in love with the first time I actually listened to them. No Roads Left is another one that I think is amazing. I've missed so much lol

This is undoubtedly one of Linkin Park's most underrated songs. A truly beautiful gem that not many people know of, sadly.

I know this is about hurricane Katrina, but I've always related to it personally because of mental illness. Depression can feel like drowning. What hurts the most is the stigma that comes from suffering from a mental disorder. It has felt impossible to get quality mental health care at times. And it really hurts how the people who should care just don't, family and friends, hell even doctors. People get to a breaking point. And sometimes taking their own life is their way of making a statement, a way of finally making people pay attention to the pain they're in. It seems like no one cares until it's too late. Everyone claims to care after someone commits suicide, but where the hell were you before? Where were you when they really needed you? It makes me so angry. I know from personal experience that you have to be a literal danger to yourself or others before it rises to a degree serious enough to get real help. Why let it get to that point?? There should be help BEFORE it gets that bad.

This song works on so many levels: the personal hell of depression, relationships, and Katrina. For me, the lesson has to be, pay attention to what's going on around you, in your head, in your environment, and in those you love, before it's too late.

the reason why people commit suicide is that they feel alone in the world their mind is battling there body people don't feel like opening up to other people because they feel they might get shut down so they just end it, to be honest I felt like doing it sometimes but sometimes I really can't because my family would be devastated and I don't want to hurt them
@boredhousewifelife

@@jahazielvazquez7264 very true. I think most people feel like that at some point in life, but because of the stigma and fear of judgement we just keep it inside. The truth is life is hard, and sometimes just getting up and fighting through another day is the most brave thing we will ever do. I'm glad you have a family that cares about you and would be devastated if you weren't around. You and I are the lucky ones, not everyone has that love and support. But I encourage you to work on finding reasons that aren't dependent on anyone else. Because the day may come that you don't have that as a reason anymore. Remember that the future holds things that you can't even begin to imagine. Always keep that hope in your heart, no matter how dark things may seem at this moment. Sometimes the worst things we experience in life lead to the best days we will ever know. You are worth the fight. You deserve all this world has to offer. You are completely unique and one of a kind. No one else can take your place. The world wouldn't be the same without you. I know I'm a stranger, but I swear I care and want the best for you. You are never truly alone, although it may feel that way at times. Just try to take it one day at a time. And remember you are loved more than you could ever know. Much love and many prayers to you always 💜💜💜

I feel you. I have been weaving in and out of that place and am still struggling now. Mental health services, the NHS etc in the UK are so underfunded that the people at the top would rather you just killed yourself than have to deal with you. The state of things is disgusting. Then just being pushed around by your family, not having any friends to confide in, no deep, lasting friendships, just feeling like nobody wants you, utterly hating yourself. And when you shout out for help, people play pass the parcel with you because they either can't or won't deal with it and then you just wondered why you even bothered trying to be brave and ask for help, a lifeline, in the first place. Nobody can help you escape except you and that option often ends up being permanently ending things.

I disliked this album when I was a kid, 15. Because I truly liked their older stuff better, nu metal. Listening back to this song, I can't believe how well done this song is, musically and vocally. This album clearly show LP were able to come out with way more matured and well written music. Dude I fucking love this song and this album right now. Nostalgic and.. Chester's vocal is, phenomenal

out of all the Linkin Park songs that do it for me this is the one. Sad to hear the lead singer took his own life such beauty and variety in his voice. May you find peace in the after Mr. Bennington.

Out of ALL the Linkin Park albums I've ever listened to I remember MTM the most. You actually hear then really sing without screaming on some of the tracks. And their song lyrics have such deep meaning.

This song is so beautiful, all of it is like art, the singing, drums, arragnement- eveything and how they delicately paint the picture of the impact of Hurricane Katrina and the want for justice is very powerful and moving for me. This song really is like a hidden gem, Thank you for the music Linkin Park

This will probably always be one of their most beautiful songs. I always loved the guitar in it, and the raw emotion just pours through signifying the tragedy it was about greatly

Wow, I haven't heard this music in years yet it's made me tear up more than any other time I've listened to it. I can't believe Chester is gone. This band was my everything back in the day, it really hurts to know that he took his own life. It feels like a big chunk of me has been ripped away. I'm sorry it had to be this way. Rest in Peace you great man.
