The Living End: E Boogie/ Second Solution (Kick Arse Rockabilly punk): Reaction 

Chris did you such a disservice!! This set had “prisoner of society” preceding e boogie and the 3 songs flow so perfectly together! That said he’s thrown some banging tracks your way so we better not lynch him just yet, but roll back 1 song and try it out as a triple header for a bit of homework.

The Living End has played in support of Midnight Oil a few times too so imagine how exhausted we all are as fans after those gigs!

first time i heard the living end, they were supporting the Offspring at the Horden, first time in a Mosh, changed my life that night. great memories.

I actually met Chris Cheney socially, and I was so stupidly star struck that I couldn't speak! No words would come out of my mouth! I was a blushing mess. He is such an amazing musician. He was a thorough gentleman though...

Yep, we had the 'Carry On' films in Australia, I remember watching them on a Saturday or Sunday in the afternoon with my mum. I haven't watched one for 30 years though. I used to love them.

Loved this brought back fabulous memories, not only fabulous musicians but also fabulous blokes. My brothers band played with them and chilling backstage was a great memory of my Uni days back in the mid 90s

You guys got the best of Australia back in the day. Remember when Joe Dolce held off Ultravox's "Vienna" from the No.1 spot with "Shaddap You Face"?

Their live gigs were something to behold - they were the next generation pub rockers and these boys were out of this world live....... Bit harsh on the Tainted love comments - but seen in a seething pit of a moshpit of aficionados - this was gold. Keep up the great work and get as many extra tracks as possible in there. Aussie month 4 -can't be be too far away. Cheers.

Seen them live quite a few times and as you can see from this they are regarded as one of the best live Aussie bands.

Thanks so much for introducing me to this version of Tainted Love, gents! Really enjoyed it! Chris if we’re going to start looking at punk, please don’t leave out The Saints - “Stranded”. With their debut single "(I'm) Stranded" in September 1976, they became the first punk band outside the US to release a record, ahead of better-known acts the Damned, the Sex Pistols and the Clash. They are considered one of the first and most influential groups of the genre, particularly within Australia. 😃

Gloria Jones was the original singer of Tainted Love..... Soft Cell covered it.

Hi Alex and George…. Whatever you think of a overseas band and then comparing it to something in Australia , you have to crank it up to 100… then you’ll be close…. The Living End….. a heap of great songs…..ie side point…. Steve James ( Sid’s Son) is a record Producer based in Australia…. And has worked with plenty of Aussie Acts.

So good live, manic, sweaty and just a fun and engaging band.

I remember seeing these guys at a Big Day out around this time, so much fun. They did go off. Don’t think I could cope with the mosh anymore however. They are pretty good musicians aren’t they, and of course great performers. It was a big day.

This is one of my favourite performances by my favourite band of all time, thank you for checking them out. The living end deserve more recognition than they already have.

Great band and songs, so intense, if you were in the crowd you would not be able to stop your legs from moving. Also great reaction as always. As far as Tin Tin, he was so far back in the closet he was constantly visiting Narnia 😉.

Amazing live. One of those gigs where you would have to buy a tour shirt on the way out because the one you wore in was wringing wet with the sweat and spilt beer of 100 other people.

I look at the crowd and wonder how I am still alive. Best live band up there with Jet ! Deserve way more accolades 🤘

Those Carry On films were classic! Yes we did get them in Australia. Along with the great shows Are you Being Served? Open All Hours, Mind Your Language, Allo Allo and then the sillier stuff like Benny Hill and On The Buses.

My fav Living End moment was from the Tour of Duty concert, the drummer kicks off 500 + Aussie Soldiers with a "Aussie,Aussie,Aussie", talk about crowd participation..lol

I'll tell you lads, 20 years ago, I was a 19 year old at that very gig (1st video), and I can confirm, it was a riot... A west end riot as it were...

Gents only recently discovered the channel but love the content and the banter. The carry on films were fantastic so much so they made a carry on down under and was wondering if at any point in time there would be the possibility of a thamesmen aussie spectacular

Chris is such a good dude too they really didnt make it huge in the usa but still heaps of aussies like them they make good songs its mostly political.. like all torn down is a great song.. its all about how the government pulls down old house puts up big fancy new ones and buildings its basically about how suburbs (area codes to usa) change.. how nothing looks the same as we were kids growing up

I have had the good fortune of seeing The Living End many times. The first time was at Festival Hall, they were supporting Green Day, Dookie album tour. However, I only realised it after the fact, when a year or so later, seeing the bassist climbing his instrument and I made the connection.

Nothing wrong with catching up guys! I put my ears on for this one... So this band is ridiculously great musically. And creative! Using a bottle slide instead of a bottleneck slide. The punk style, s always, is a bit off-putting for me. But I can't take anything away from how amazing they are at what they do.

The drummer on Tainted Love is different drummer than in the first 2 songs. Travis Dempsey was replaced after their first 2 albums with Andy Strachan, who is still with them today 👍🥁

Alex and George (and Chris), the live performance from TLE was just awesome. Such a complex song, littered with crowd interaction and even the first (to my knowledge) act of "bass-tiality" on stage in Australia. I think TLE might have been the first Australian band to introduce a double bass as a phallic extension. Gold. I am, however, a little perplexed as to the inclusion of the over-compressed version of Tainted Love as a bonus track. I would have loved to have seen something underrated, like their performance of Prisoner of Society at the 2016 AFL Grand Final in front of around 90,000 people. This was certainly not the natural environment of TLE, and was certainly not their best received live performance of the song, yet they managed to completely own the MCG for around the 10 or so minutes of their set. That would have been a great bonus track. Chris, I know you are are an astute collaborator, so this makes me think you have more TLE performances in mind. So, please don't think I am criticizing. Just wishful thinking. George and Alex, on something different, you mentioned Blink-182, and I can see where you are coming from. But a fun fact about Tom DeLonge is that he is now a co-author of two novels, co-written with a novelist (and Shakespeare professor) A.J. Hartley, who is also a former Pommy, now living in the USA. The books revolve around US government coverups of Unidentified Arial Phenomena (UAP). Tom DeLonge also has a couple of non-fiction books on the same subject. DeLonge has worked with ex-CIA, NASA and other government officials to gain access to, and force the release of a large amount of formerly classified information surrounding this subject. Who would have thought that would be the most important and influential work from one of the founders of Skate Punk/Pop Punk. Thanks to all concerned for bringing us Aussie Week 3. Another triumph. Well done.

Saw these guys live, absolutely awesome.

This is what I mean that although Australia is best known for blues rock, we had great punk (eg. The Saints, Scientists, Radio Birdman) post punk/New Wave etc (Nick Cave, the Church, Hoodoo Gurus etc) as well...and the might hard rockers-- The Lime Spiders (check Slave Girl and Weirdo Libido)

Anyone remember the FireBalls? A great Sycabilly band before The Living End. They all had big red mohawks and I remember the bass player would climb up on his double bass while playing and keep his balance and much faster beat than these guys. They rocked so do these guys.

Both tracks amazing, Chris has done well and I like how he is squeezing extra tracks in each night now!! And Blistering barnacles no one puts Tin Tin in the closet!! He has to feed Snowy!

heads up, it's usually VB, not Heineken. Their Enmore show for the (I think) modern artillery tour was the most epic show I've ever seen. 2.5 hours of genre bending, 2 albums worth of original.material, covers, wild improv and extended versions of the hits. Seriously the most underrated aussie band in terms of their musicianship and showmanship. Not a single fancy light needed, just balls out rock

Love the Living End and saw them a number of times down here in Sydney Australia along with Fireballs who were hitting the scenes before them and played an even faster form which you would call Thrashabilly. But don’t be knocking Stray Cats and referring to them as a “joke” band. They could play. They might have been a bit “teeny bopper” on their early albums, but their live shows were and are incredible. There’s a reason Chris Cheney pays a lot of tribute to Brian Setzer. He’s one of the finest Rockabilly and Jazz guitarists around. All the top guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Brian May etc went to their shows when they played. Their live show “Rumble In Brixton” is a classic. They might not have played at the same frenetic pace as The Living End……..that wasn’t their style. TLE has been one of my favorite bands forever!!!! Thank you for doing this. There isn’t a song that I don’t like. Especially on the album with this song! Definitely check out “West End Riot” and “Second Solution”. “I Can’t Give You What I Haven’t Got” and “Bloody Mary” (inspired by a real person)- I could go in and on. “Tabloid Magazine”- they’re just a great band all around!

Yes we got the "Carry on" films in Australia... I caught the last 40min of a black and white one a couple of weeks ago (Can't recall the name) on free to air tele. I've been watching your videos for the last few weeks now, and it finally dawned on me! Your intro is what I grew up with as a child to all the great shows I watched after school... Danger Mouse! The Goodies, Bananaman etc. Thanks for the memories.

Hi guys just found your channel i and love your video's keep up the good work... And if you like jimmy Barnes and the Living End check them together doing a song called Lay down your guns, it will blow your socks off.

The Living End style wise I thought were a combination of the Stray Cats and Green Day. They were one of the best Australian bands of the 90's and 00's, that didn't get the international success they deserved.

You should hear how crisp their pro recordings were, like the album release radio stuff... they were a pub band live but in the studio they made you understand just how talented they actually we're.
