I made this short film with my friend in the Sumer of 2018, whilst paddling the length of the loire river in France.
we used inflatable Gumotex Framura kayaks and spent a great six weeks on the water covering just over 1000 km
video was filmed using two GoPro cameras.

how did you filmed 20:14? Recently I did river Wye 6 day IK trip, I had 20 kg of water and food. Do you take less food as it makes the main weight or you plan shopping stops in towns?

As Jon hasn't yet replied (he's been busy on another adventure) .At 20:14 we put the camera on a ledge under a bridge. Pumped water from the river regularly so didn't need to carry the weight, bought staple food (tuna/rice/pasta) could live off and topped up at various villages passed.

@@charlietearle thank you, with water it makes sense so I bought a filter and can boil as well. There might be some fish in water to grill too:) . So far I’ve done few multiday trips in UK, it’s hard learning to keep weight down. Good luck with next adventure.

Would choose the Framura again for this tour?

Great trip! Inspirational. I have North American version of this IK, the Innova Swing EX. You guys used the rudder. What'd you think if that? Could you control and deploy it with the strings?

Wish there was more technical details on how equipment held up. Which items would you bring again for the same journey, which ones were pure garbage and wouldn't recommend. 1. What was average speed while kayaking? 2. How kayak acted when wind was blowing from the sides in open waters, did that puncture caused any more problems? 3. Did you have to worry about leaving it on the shore during hot days for it not to blow up, or does it have pressure release valves for protection? 4. Why did you chose this particular model? 5. Based on how often you had to portage, wouldn't a set of wheels have helped there? 6. How did you charge your electronics?

Jon has been on other adventures and watching this video again noticed your questions so appreciate late, but answers are as follows. 1. speed depended on conditions. in rapids, literally 1mph, with tide at the end, around 8mph, from memory on calm days flat water 4-5mph. 2. Only one puncture from dragging over rocks and once fixed no other issues, wind is an issue as the kayaks behave more like a raft and high sides catch the wind. 3. The floor had a pressure release but not the sides (we did complain to gumotex) so if left them had to deflate then re-inflate in the evening when colder, was an issue. 4. Don recall, we did do a fair amount of research and think price, storage capacity and width decided it. 5. If we had wheels, we couldn't have used them often, mostly uneven ground or narrow tracks. 6. Solar panels. We did film our opinion of most equipment but didn't use it in the end. Can highly recommend the kayaks and would use them again.

@@jonepoulter7524 thanks for the reply and I think you do yourself an injustice as they are great videos, sometimes the flashiest camera work on some videos is let down by content. You have a perfect mix of great shots and a great narrative! sorry to hear foulest your knife, we would love to be able to make you something for your next adventures. Drop us a line and we can see what model would be best for you. all the best cheers Ben and Lois info@benandloisorford.com

Awesome video! Do you have a list of all the gear, etc you brought with you on the boats? I was also wondering if wild camping is allowed in France. Thanks for the great inspiration!

Hi sjoerd sorry can’t help you with gear list but just take the usual for wild camping? Regarding wild camping in France along the river banks to my knowledge it is legal, we had no problems hope this helps Regards jon

Well done Jon... interesting to see the parts of France that I have been to from the perspective of the river... 1000kms not bad the most I canoe'd in France was about 14km down a river 😄

Am I going bonkers, or did you put this video up before? Not the it really matters as I enjoyed it again anyway. Aahhh, those pre Covid days!! Well, at least it looks like we're heading the right way - away from Covid, that is. Really enjoy your stuff, Jon. Amazing adventures and pretty damn good filming. Amazing what you can get with a GoPro. Well done to you and your friend.

You're not going bonkers -- maybe music copyright issues on the original? Well worth watching again in any event.

Hi Geoff Yes sorry video had been uploaded before but got taken down because of copyright on one of the songs. No big deal as only make videos for fun not sure how it will work in the future as it might happen to the other videos? So you’re not going bonkers ! All the best Jon

I’m considering between Framura, Seawave and Grabner Escape. Have you tried any of those? Is Framura that more capsizing than other IK’s? Many thanks, kris
