How were Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto first discovered? Neil deGrasse Tyson explores the often un-discussed past failures in astrophysics and why “how tall are you?” is an unanswerable question.
What is the Earth’s ellipticity? What is the sun’s diameter? How do you measure the edge of something that is made out of gas? Neil breaks down how measurements are inexact and the idea of scientific uncertainty. Learn about Galileo’s discovery of Jupiter’s moons, the search for Planet X, and the later discoveries of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Find out about the planet, Vulcan, that scientists proposed to explain Mercury’s orbit. Plus, naturally, Neil breaks down the density of the The Hulk.

Literally....😂Reading it... dissecting it... chapter by chapter from an Ebook. I was about to go start back reading until this video popped up...! eBooks are literally like digital adventures that far exceed the original text style book. Read something in an ebook, and don't know what it is, or never been there? Highlight it, and now there's a full page of footnotes, reference notes, other information to explore, places to go. Highlight those, and you're teleported anywhere on the world, in space or through time via the internet. Suddenly the "I'm just reading a book," has stretched out waaaay beyond being done in a few days. 😆 I went from 54% done down to 31% after back tracking the Apollo moon dust.

If the education goal is to create good soldiers and workers (prussian education style), then please, don't be surprised. The other part of this equation is education in palatable format. Noone in their right mind will go for weird hieroglyphs on the blackboard, without a proper understanding if those things. I'm so happy to see science educators like Mr. Tyson, trying to make it simple enough for normal people to understand.

When kids or adults hear a dull or boring teacher they they learn a lot less, because they zone out or are not really paying attention. Dr. Tyson knows this. He not only has an IQ of genius but he makes it FUN. He is very entertaining and fun to listen to. His use of humor is the key. He is also able to brake down complex things and make it easy to assimilate. The only thing to add to this, is his Love of Science and his love for both Learning as well as teaching. His enthusiasm is contagious. I have followed him since he first became known. I have the same love of Science and teaching. People should all learn more and more until the day they die. Take what you learn about Science and teach it to others you care about.

That remark by Neil about Europe and Russia baffled me honestly. Part of Russia *is* in Europe, It doesn't have to be Russia's biggest part to be included in Europe, and that part alone is larger than any other country that is solely in Europe, or not, like Denmark. Russia's European part size is almost 4 million square kilometres while Denmark with Greenland is a bit more than 2 square kilometres. Without Greenland and without European Russia, it's actually Ukraine at the top. So, It's totally correct to say that Russia is the biggest country in Europe. Every respected source will have you read the same. By the way Sweden is not even second or third by size in Europe.

(21:30 Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?) AND surah zariyat aya 47 ( 51:47 And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander. ) AND Yasin aya 38 (yaseen) (And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.) AND surah Anbiya aya 33 (21:33 And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming.) AGAIN AND AGAIN, ALLAH WHO CREAT THE UNIVERSE HE DESCRIBED EVERYTHING IN THE QURAN 1400 YEARS AGO. ALLAH SAID (41:53 We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. But is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?) Quran 41:53 Surah Fussilat ayat 53 THERE is STILL A LOT ABOUT UNIVERSE IN THE QURAN.

We often frame our understanding of what the space telescope will do in terms of what we expect to find, and actually it would be terribly anticlimactic if in fact we find what we expect to find. … The most important discoveries will provide answers to questions that we do not yet know how to ask and will concern objects we have not yet imagined. • John N. @StarTalk, could some answers be "non-boolean"? Meaning there are multiple state(ment)s that are correct. A triangle has 3 sides in 2 dimensions, but what if you stuck a triangle in 3 dimensions? Would it have the 3 sides, and a front and back? Then could we say a triangle has n sides. I guess its domain-specific.

It's all a matter of the precision needed. You can be "correct" within a significant digit. You can include a range or average some things out. You can create standards for how things are measured, like, for example, coastal rocks.

So nobody’s gonna say about Russia being the biggest country in Europe ? Russia is a trans-continental country. 70% of it is in Asia and the rent 30% is in Europe. Hence it’s the largest country in Europe and globally as well.

De Grasse sense of humour is classic. Seems like a lot audience dont get the subtle jokes. That may be mocking our over confidence in fixed history. Cant believe I avoided his stuff before. Thank you Sir Neil!
