Sauron wears the white clothing he had on when he was expelled by the Valinor; the picture shows him in humanoid form before Isildur cut the ring from his hand. Gigantic structures of pustules and deformed flesh coarse up the sides of his head due to his evil. The Hobbits, too, have structures of clotted hair and pustules due to being in Modor in the proximity of this evil. Again, great depictions.

I like biopunk better than steampunk. But the latter is appropriate to stories set in the 19th to early 20th centuries, or to a world that maintained that style into the 21st century. However, I think art deco would have succeeded it to better frame the modern spirit.
Entertaining, but I think the increase in budget needed would have overwhelmed the reduts profits from an audience who would not have bought into its darker vision.
