The Lord Of The Rings - Unreleased Scenes (2022 Compilation).
22 years to the day that footage of Peter Jackson's The Lord Of The Rings trilogy was first revealed to the world on April 7th, 2000, this new and definitive compilation of almost every piece of unreleased and deleted material will hopefully contribute towards making the 25th Anniversary Edition a reality in 2026.

What I love about these films is the attention to detail. What Tolkien did with the written word, all this work to make languages that hardly appear in the novels, the crew did with the film, all this work on set design, costume design... It creates such a real, ancient place. Nothing like it.
@banananer16
@banananer16 2 года назад
Over 20 years later, there are so many fans willing to "do their part" in playing an active role in tracking down, recording, and preserving every scrap of knowledge they can about these films. You do it with your incredible familiarity with unreleased scenes and promotional photography, or even just the scenes that are rumored to exist. I've been doing it by creating screen-accurate saddles and tack for my horses and sharing my work for others to do the same builds, while I've got friends in the cosplay community who spend thousands of hours on costumes and armor indistinguishable to those worn in the films. I know people who work hard to archive old websites or blogs that have interviews from Weta artists or production crew in the early 2000s on topics ranging from Arwen's makeup to the Minas Tirith miniatures. Many of those early online resources are already lost forever, and more will vanish if we don't take action. As a professional archaeologist, I see this kind of fan labor as a form of archaeology as well: we need to preserve this "cultural heritage" of the Lord of the Rings for our children and grandchildren, so that not only the films but the knowledge of HOW they made the best trilogy of all time will last forever.

One of the few things I don't like about the movies is the way Sauron's death scene is handled in Fellowship. Wish they'd actually shown him fighting Elendil and Gil-galad. I understand why it was cut for narrative expedience though.
@ThatOtherGuyOverThere
@ThatOtherGuyOverThere 2 года назад
You mean that Sauron being an arrogant, near all-powerful asshole on the verge of victory ISN'T enough of an explanation as to why he would want to kill the son of one of his greatest enemies with his bare hands? And that's without taking into account that he had just killed Gil-Galad, a legendary elven king, with his bare, burning hands. It's not a plot hole, or contrivance, or convenience. It's characterization.
@bjakeijzer
@bjakeijzer 2 года назад
@@ThatOtherGuyOverThere But then it only works if you go into it already knowing all the lore. A new viewer who has never even heard of Gil-Galad or all that other stuff will only see a large armored dude reaching out his hand to this son of the king.
@ArdaUnhail
@ArdaUnhail 2 года назад
For movie perspective it would strenghten the reasoning of the decision Sauron took reaching Isildur like that is his signature move but for bookwise, actually Gil-Galad and Elendil wore down Sauron in the cost of their lives and Sauron fell down with them. Isildur then, just cut it from the hands of the unconscious Sauron, maybe only materialized or alive by the power of his ring at that moment. So, either way, the approach they took has flaws but for movie i think it is just right. In a saga opening intro scene no one knows who the hell is Sauron, Gil-Galad, Elendil etc. so they only put on screen that some evil god-like creature was over confident and paid his arrogance dearly.

This is simply amazing. You know what ? I think that we, the fans, could keep sharing this until it finally gets to Peter Jackson and Warner Brothers. It's totally possible for us to have the extended edition of the " extended edition" one day if we try hard enough. If you stop to think about, Blade runner has had 7 different cuts throughout the years and if it wasn't for the fans on social media, Zack Snyder could've never finished his Justice League. So, como on guys, we can make this happen !!!!

1:01:50 I would be interested in seeing the R-rated cut of the film. The books themselves were very violent and it's cool to know that Peter kept this in mind when filming, even though he had to clean most of it out for the release. How much more horrifying the orcs become when you see the torture, gore and mutilation they wrought and were surrounded by. You kind of lose how otherworldly and terrifying orcs must have been to the people of Middle Earth when you see them get cut down like cannon fodder by the heroes, and speak English on-screen
@yvindmartinsen8341
@yvindmartinsen8341 Год назад
I'm still amazed they kept in the off screen torture scenes of Golum, I remember seeing that as a child as was quite frankly shocked and scared.... but despite feeling the disgust of seeing torture (I had a vivid imagination), I was also immersed more deeply in the gravity of the situation. There's something truly sinister and serious about the evil in peter jacksons LOTR, which I rarely feel in other fictional universes. Evil often feels goofy and cheap, but in Peter Jacksons LOTR the evil feels strangely real, despite also feeling fantastical.
@katherinewilson1853
@katherinewilson1853 5 месяцев назад
@@yvindmartinsen8341 It's hard to describe, but Tolkien describes the evil of war, death, and daily life as a soldier woven together with a lifetime of passions like world-building, language, etc. Portraying that is different than are other books, even The Hobbit, which is a bedtime story. Gollum was necessary because he was the guy who wasn't going to leave you alone no matter what. His pain and torture at the outset make us acknowledge everyone's basic deservingness because he is pathetic. It acknowledges the stakes that haven't been acknowledged by those who are seeing clues, like the Passing of the Elves, and so forth. The loss of innocence and acknowledgment of suffering doesn't really happen until Gandalf sacrifices himself for their well-being in the mines of Moria.

I think the Lothlórien part would've been better with the killing of the goblins. The elves shoving their bows in their faces was kinda dumb. Also cutting ANYTHING that involves Boromir was a bad move.

I surprisingly remember a lot of these things from other promotional stuff, action figures boxes, trading cards, video game pamphlets, cut scenes in games, etc.

the prop team is insane, everything looks good even without the CG.

I saw an interview somewhere where Peter Jackson said he had something like 50 or 60 hours sitting in a warehouse of unused footage. He said a lot of it is good and just too much for a movie to be watchable. Some RU-vidrs have suggested editing that footage into a Snyder Cut style miniseries with a season for each movie. I would totally watch that. I'm not sure if WB is allow to release it as a show, however, since Amazon has the TV rights, but it would be so great if they could. We are coming up on the 25th Anniversary and a 30-40 hour super cut made into a miniseries with remastered footage and updated CGI for the scenes that need it would be an amazing way to celebrate.
