5:04 fun fact. you can hear the crow actually mimic the sound of a stance break as it will have a little bit of rasp at the start of the sound. which might mean that they arent actually crows but rather ravens, as ravens are extremely good at mimicking sounds
The birds once again are workinh for the kaiden sellswords to fight for the giants as an effort to insert themselves as government cameras to enable sissy hypnosis on the golden order
I remember the dog crow theory, but it kinda clicked for me bc i had just watched a movie called Hatching that influenced my belief in it. I don't want to spoil it bc it's a cool movie but it definitely worth a watch!
Honestly I always just assumed that they originally came from the mountains and the reason that they were so big ( and the dogs) was because they belonged to the giants. Maybe not as pets but like living among people that large, you'd have to be pretty big too to stand a chance. It would explain why they fight the trolls and why they're the hardest in the mountains. Then over time as the fighting and war spread they just migrated further and further down. Then depending on where they settle they'd be tainted by certain effects of the area and adapt. I'm not sure how they made it down to mohgwyn palace though. That one still perplexes Me. Maybe through old mine or catacombs that are blocked off now. Or maybe following the albinurics or something
@@neutro1538 I feel like that's the more obvious solution of course. I just feel like the timeline from the giants era to when the tarnished showed up would help explain why the crows and dogs aren't just all over the lands between, like if it was during the shattering wars to the time of the game, it just seems like alot of ground to cover without having a more spread out population. Unless there was some sort of land bridge from caelid to the mountains before the game started that is now gone? I dunno, there's probably alot of explanation but I just feel like we'd see a much larger population all around the lands between if it had been as recent as the caelid war. Also there is a gate from the snow field to mohgwyn palace which could help explain why the birds and dogs showed up down there. Where as they're doesn't seem to be a direct way they would have gotten down there from caelid.
@@jefferyschroeder3104 yh I don’t think they actually mutated or anything, it’s just what I initially assumed lol. What I actually think is that maybe they were just normal dogs or crows who became like that due to eating the remains of powerful warriors. This idea fits with the common theme in Elden ring of eating the remains of enemies to get stronger which you see with big snake dude and also that tarnished eater invader. They are only found in places where *powerful* warriors have died. Which is why I think there aren’t crows around volcano manor despite there being lots of dead warriors there. And the ones in mohgs palace are like that cus they be eating some dodgy stuff. So they’re more powerful but sick or something. But yeah, that’s my theory 🙂

I’ve heard people say that they could just be discarded pieces of rykard but their placement around the lands is strange and irrelevant to rykards goals. And that’s besides the fact that they’re varying sizes and fingers don’t match rykard
What’s interesting to me is that a lot of the dogs or crows in Caelid have the same red eye glow as Blaidd at the end of Ranni’s questline when he attacks us because Ranni murdered her Two Fingers and is in our pocket as a miniature doll when we confront him. If the “dogs” and “crows” are just variations of the beastmen, I wonder if something happened to activate their kill switch in the same way. Makes me wonder if the absolute chad that is Radahn is the reason Farum Azula is suspended mid air, possibly as an attempt to protect Sellia from the Beastmen. It would explain why there are Beastmen armaments in his battlefield instead of just the Redmane and Cleanrots.
Thanks for the video! This is slowly becoming one of my favorite ER topics ngl. While watching this a thought did cross my mind tho. A (probably crackhead) theory. Just hear me out: -I wonder if the big ravens of Calid were always big, but due to Calid getting nuked to hell, mutated(not into dogs). Normal crows are scavengers, and they pick at the dead but they also eat fruits, bugs eggs, basically anything. These crows are clearly predators, with their teeth and how they pursue and attack. They only eat flesh and things that bleed. What if Big Crows were normally just Big Chill Crows that existed in the Calid and once Rot Mommy did her thing, began to mutate into terrible(ly cool) apex predators, in order to survive? Maybe over generations or though time. Still, that doesn’t exactly explain how they got to the mountain tops but the fact the giants are fighting their asses means they aren’t native to the lands. Mogwyn might have been the Crows looking for more food, since they seem rather greedy in Calid(ie chasing you for miles) -also quick nerd side note, crows are very intelligent in real life. They can mimic sounds and have shown to be tricksters. Someone in the comments already mentioned the sound mimicry when it fakes the stagger, but the fact it fakes the stagger only speaks to its intelligence as a Crow. That might also explain why it chases us so far compared to other hostile wildlife and characters. (excluding fucking rune bears since they are territorial. Hate those assholes). Crows in real life have been seen playing tricks on dogs, hyenas and other animals that could destroy them. The fact they play a trick on us in game is literally part of their nature
the eggs in the blood tainted-tainted excrement could be just fly-eggs, given that it is needed for crafting swarm pots - which release a swarm of flies when thrown.
Hell yeah. You know, I enjoy SmoughTown's and Hawkshaw's content, but their videos are extremely dry and clinical. I like a humorous personal touch. This channel fulfills that dark desire.
If the crows fit into the erdtree circle of life then perhaps they arent fit to be a part of mogh's outergod's order? Rejects menagerie and all that. (Aside: The flies & eggs & excrement give big dungeater vibes)
Man, the point about the crows only being in areas ravaged by an outer god is possibly one of the most significant bits of lore about them. I think the other is that they are likely somehow connected to the death birds. Possibly children of the death birds or healthier ones or mutated ones? Seriously though I love that observation. Maybe another possibility, or an inversion of your idea is simply that they show up where the Erd tree's influence is at it's weakest.
This was fascinating mate. Honesly my most feared enemy in the game. No matter how long ill sneakily stare at these creatures they never stops horrifying me. Still can't beat the mohgwyn ones. I tend to just freeze at some point... these bad boys are sooo agresive

I almost feel that the giant crows are just in the game to make people afraid of real crows. I felt the same way about the barking crows in Bloodborne. Lol. XD
I played 3 on a friend's emulator some years back. I wanna play through all of them just to have that under my belt but currently in my backlog of games. But I didn't appreciate this song until I watched the parrygods dark souls 3 short film a few years back. All of their work is pure art

Was it 殺す? Which is pronounced korosu? It means murder or karasu? Kara su just means from the nest su - nest Kara from Tengu the kanji from tengu mostly deals with 天狗 which is a mix on tenshi and the kanji for demon so like demon with angel wings.
I dont want to seem rude, but you did a 27 minute video where almost half of it you criticize my misrepresented theory and myself for stating it as a fact (which I did not, I mentioned multiple times it was a theory), and in the other half of the video you reach absolute no conclusion while analyzing cultures from outside the game.
Are you a thousand percent sure it was your theory I read? If so what did i misrepresent? The whole thing i read even had a title like "the truth about caelids wildlife" or something, i was going off of memory and like there is no conclusion, that's the whole thing. There is no definitive answer, also this video is just ranting about a particular topic and that theory is one I've seen parroted by more than one person, I was going off of memory when I was talking about it, you might think since I make videos that I should do better research but your theory wasn't the point of the video it was just something I talked about. No worries dude my bad for gettin defensive, I just wanted to make it clear that it was mainly off of memory, I even said I wasn't trying to hate on the theory, because there's other game precedents for it. But yeah no worries I'll give your video a watch rn because I'm curious if it'll convince me, I'm not against the theory, especially since there's so little lore on these fellas.
