Perhaps it is a failed horcrux? Maybe its creator is fully trapped within the cursed object and simply touching it causes you to experience all of their hate and anguish as their dark soul tries to escape into your body.

If it's him and he's been trapped in that necklace for 2000 yrs,his soul is bound to be full of anger and hatred. Maybe when these muggles that touched it died and Katy got hurt it was because Herpo was trying to possess them and failed. Katys horrible outburst was a manifestation of Herpo's 2000 yr old tormented soul trying to obtain a host of flesh again.Can you imagine the mental state of a tormented soul being trapped and unable to escape for thousands of years?

Fun theory: Dementors are actually Horcruxeses created by Ekrizdis , this explains their durability. He tortured muggle sailors, killed them, and infused a part of his own soul inside their dead body turning them into a dementor. Eventually Ekrizdis ripped his soul so many times which turned him into a dementor himself. This is cool because it means Voldemort was on his way to become a dementor had he created more Horcruxeses.
I'd argue it'd make more sense to be the opposite. If you think about it, a Dementor is a being without a soul that is looking to feast on one. Looking to complete itself by gaining one, but unable to truly become complete with whatever soul they do get. I'd argue that the dementors are the opposite of a horcrux, and instead are a sort of negative magic of the universe trying to restore balance in death. Imagine if instead of tearing the soul, you just pulled it out... your husk, always looking for your lost soul that 'moved on', never finding it's original soul. I would imagine making a dementor, would be akin to making a horocrux with someone who's lost their soul and is basically a divide by zero glitch of the magical universe.
i alwas had thought that dementors are originally Ekrizdis's prisoners who had their soul ripped off, because its said in the book that in dementors kiss will take the soul and make the person dementor like souless shell. And because they become hungry and need to feed from negative emotions, they dont have enought food when there is peace and everyone is happy, and their number is low but in war they have lot of food and can exist more and can breed by kissing
I don’t think the necklace needs to be a horcrux. As we know, in itself, a horcrux is not deadly to the touch. The reason why the ring injures Dumbledore so severely is because a curse has been laid upon it. Well, you could have the curse without the horcrux, I suppose. The question is, when was the curse put on the ring and-if it was after Voldemort’s time at Borgin and Burke’s-if he got the idea of the curse from the necklace. Another reason why it seems unlikely that it’s a horcrux, is that we are told it has killed 19 muggle owners. If it were a horcrux that had been cursed so powerfully, it would make sense that it would be hidden in such a way that no muggle could find it. Also, we’re never told what happens to the horcrux after it’s brought to Dumbledore. Certainly that doesn’t mean it was destroyed, but we can’t be sure that it couldn’t and it doesn’t seem to me that Dumbledore would not have thought to check if it was a horcrux during the height of his horcrux hunt.
The fact that the 19 people the necklace killed were specifically all MUGGLES may have more to do with it i.e why does it only kills MUGGLE owners? I can tell you why it didn't come on to Dumbledore radar because it has no connection with lord Voldemort what so ever (him being descended from Herpo the foul is just speculation).
Ok a question springs to mind. Other than voldemort there's supposedly only ever been 1 creator of a horcrux right, and only 1 other known horcrux in existence. Well if there's only ever been 1 historical horcrux then how is it known there's multiple ways they can be destroyed? If this necklace is indeed that past horcux, that means that no horcrux has ever officially been destroyed before voldemort's so how is it known there are very few ways they can be? Or if this necklace is a secret horcrux no one knew about that still means there was only 1 known horcrux to test methods of destruction and so could only confirm 1 method of destruction, right? Heck come to think about it, how is it known that the original creator was even successful if he'd have to die and come back to confirm that. Did he return like voldemort and thus prove the idea of a horcrux true?
I would assume that by testing from the least most powerful attack spell to the most powerful up until the point of destruction would give enough info for the known methods to have been discovered as stated, it does need to be irrepairable damage, which not many spells can produce, hence why there are so few methods.
Yea even I’m confused. I think there must have been a few more people in history who made horcruxes because there was a literal book written about them (you will know this if you read the last Harry Potter book)
I dont think it was Ekrisdiz, because he died in his Castle and his barriers failed. However what if Raczidian made the horcrux. He was consumed by his own evil Patronus and never heard of again. His body could not survive, but his souls maybe have. Voldemorts "main" Soul needed a Vassal like Quirrel or the unborn Fetus of the missing Witch, if Reczidians "main" Soul couldnt find something like this maybe it died, even with Oval Horcrux intact. So now this is a Horcrux without a Master bound to. A part of a Soul freed, but trapped in a Prison.
I believed that necklace is Morgana's horcrux being merlins antagonist and would make for her return and I cant believe that anything made by Morgana could be destroyed by anyone other than merlin and all of her writtings would have most likely been burnt making her the actual first to create a horcrux and merlin seeing those writting just hoped no one would ever delve into dark magic this deep again.

If it's Herpo his soul has been trapped for 2000 yrs. That might explain the utter hatred and agony we saw on Katys face,when Herpo tried to posses her and leave the necklace.
The book Hermione read (Secrets of the Darkest Art), only told of how to create a horcrux. It didn’t tell how to destroy it. The two methods that the characters found out could destroy them (Basilisk Venom and Fiendfyre) were accidentally discovered by them in the course of destroying Voldemort’s horcruxes. They didn’t know it beforehand. Which may be why, despite killing 19 muggles no one actually succeeded in destroying the Opal Necklace, cos the methods to destroy them were only discovered very recently.

We also don't have any info about the origin of the Opal necklace, only that its dark powers are compliant of a Horcrux's defence mechanisms (but not necessarily such). So while it might be the Horcrux, we don't have proof that it actually is, or who its owner/creator was
@@nathishvel5725 if I remember correctly Hermione knew that a horcrux can be destroyed be fiendfyre. She mentioned it after the Room of Requirement fiasco and after Crabbe had died. She just didn't tell Harry or Ron about it since she's afraid or at least not confident in using fiendfyre as the spell/curse is very hard to control and may end up killing the caster if the caster is inexperienced like what happened with Crabbe.

It was a strange object, but in Happy Potter lore we can find all sorts of items that are cursed or weird. Maybe Rowling could answer this question, but I believe that it is not a Horcrux
I doubt it. Rowling didn't learn everything about the times of Harry Potter before we ejected her from the Wizarding World for breaking the statute of secrecy.
I believe it might be a failed attempt. That the witch/wizard who tried to make it a horcrux actually put the defensive mechanisms that's what made it cursed.
Given the supposed power level you'd have to have to make a Horcrux, my guess for a potential candidate for the creator of that Horcrux would be Morgana Le Fey, as supposedly being Merlin's rival in the Harry Potter canon and Merlin supposedly being the most powerful wizard of all time, Morgana should more than be capable of this kind of magic. The only counter argument I have is she is pretty high profile in wizarding history and I cannot easily imagine no one noticing someone at or above Voldemort's level of power running around.
Well she can shape shift so she really could have played a role or it was something she did create but lost over time. She would hundreds of years old. I keep hoping she comes back in a sequel series or prequel. She would make an excellent villain and we don’t have any real female villains besides Umbridge and Bellatrix.

Maybe we will one day get a series of some sort during the age of the Hogwarts founders and Merlin/Morgana. I’d be all for it. But you make a good point about her shapeshifting to hide her form and frankly any dark wizard who made the Horcrux would be several hundred years old. So it’s believable things got lost in the shuffle.
There is rumor that they MAY make a Harry Potter Series, perhaps they could do one from back in that era or introduce her in a sequel to Harry Potters movie canon. She would be the only one I could think of that could be more dangerous than Voldemort.

Personally, I still don't think that the Opal Necklace is a horcrux but in fact was a very sadistic anti-muggle weapon or at least this is how it was eventually used. It already had killed 19 muggles by the 20th century, probably all people who have received it as a gift going by the language used to describe the victims. It would be also a very effective weapon to use against muggles, I mean, it causes a painful death on touch (the only reason why Katie survived at all was because the skin contact was so minimal. So if it was gifted to a muggle, it probably would kill several people before someone realizes they can't touch the necklace with their bare hands... The initial creator could be Egyptian, who used it to protect the treasures in his tomb against later grave robbers who would die when they touched the necklace. . However, if it is a Horcrux, I think it was created by a Dark Wizard we yet have to meet. I've said this before, there is too much information on the subject for Herpo the Foul to be the only one who has created one but seeing how he is the only documented case and seeing how he was the creator of the process, someone probably already have taken care of his horcrux, dooming him forever. And Ekrizdis is confirmed dead, so it couldn't have been him (going by the idea that he didn't mess up the process). No, I do think that if it is a horcrux, the creator is still out there, alive and hidden, probably constantly taken on other identities to mask his immortality...

You sir are always on form I salute you sir. I always thought of it as a artifact that was cursed by a dark wizard to kill, his or hers enemies or random innocent people.
So here's my thought: there is a potion to restore a body that Voldemort uses. He didn't create this potion, someone else did. So that means someone else likely had a horcrux, had their body destroyed and figured out how to get their body back afterwards. There were likely many dark wizards and witches throughout time who created horcruxes, and many good ones who worked to destroy them. Herpo and Voldemort are just famous as the first and the last we know of.
I don't think Opal Necklace was a Hocrux,because as Harry constantly tells Ron and Hermoine in their Hocrux hunt that Borgin and Brukes were experts in Dark Magic and would've known straightaway that the Necklace is one too. What I think is that it's just an extraordinarily powerful cursed object might be used by a Dark Wizard just to kill Muggles. As there have been no Magical death this clearly seems to me the work of a powerful and Terrifying Dark Wizard,whose spell was so deadly that you will die just by touching it. My theory is that Snape tried to turn the necklace into a Horcrux and he abandoned it somehow....I don`t know if this is from the perfect performance of Alan Rickman in that particular scene or Snape was amazed by the fact the necklace was found. Just see the way he is looking into the necklace like he is observing every detail...
In the philosopher's why didn't Voldemort was exposed to Snape by Quirrell since Snape was his right hand and he would not have been able to save Harry from Voldemort because it would reveal his true allegiance

Is it not quite likely to be Grindelwald's? I think this would explain a lot - including why Dumbledore didn't kill him after their duel (he knew it wouldn't actually kill him). Also, I think it's poetic that the thing that is sent to kill him is part of Grindelwald's soul. Also also, it gives rise to the possibility that Dumbledore destroyed the horcrux a few months before Voldemort kills Grindelwald - which again seems fitting.

Gellert was not afraid of death and immortality wasn't his priority. Dumbledore didn't kill him for 2 reasons. 1. He was is lover/bestfriend 2. He only needed to defeat him not kill him and why would you kill a very powerful wizard? (Kiling is not the way always) And Voldemort killed Grindelwald in The Deadly Hollows. Also how would him know about the Opal Necklaces if he travelled the world and never went to that shop?
It could have been Dumbledore's Horcrux, for we're told that he has intimate knowledge of creating a Horcrux. He said it's not a good idea to make a living being a Horcrux, leaving one to speculate that Dumbledore's Horcrux was this Opal Necklace, from his mother when he was present in the killing of his sister. Instead of Dumbledore's soul going into the necklace, it was Arianna's Soul, and was bound to the necklace, making her obscurial less promenent for Dumbledore to know about. Who knows, this is my personal theory.
Given how easy Dark Magic is to fall into and how common "powerful" witches and wizards are, there's probably a few dozen Horcruxes floating around Europe. Everything that has ever been said to be rare or difficult in Harry Potter inevitably proves to be common or easy to do if you approach it with the right mindset (e.g. Patronus Charms), so there's no reason to believe making Horcruxes is actually that difficult.
I believe yes it is a horcrux, but the one who made it is unknown. I highly doubt it'd be either of the 2 mentioned in the video as both are confirmed dead, plus if either were still around i don't think they'd be so under the radar that no one would know for that long. Likely it's some witch or wizard who no one knows about, perhaps even made it on accident. Even they wouldn't know where the opal necklace currently is, but that's also what's brilliant about it if it is a horcrux. Because everyone sees it as a powerful cursed object it's kept hidden and protected by those that have it. I think it gets locked away in the ministry or something after the incident (i don't think they destroyed it) so without even trying this random dark witch or wizard has a better protected horcrux than voldemort ever had. The best protected is the one your enemies guard for you
I think you missed one possibility like Rowling’s quote said there have probably been tons of people who have tried and failed so it might also be the case that it was unintentional cursed during a failed or incomplete attempt

Ever tought about the question Tom Riddle asked Slughorn about what happends if you create 7 Horcuxes when he was learning in Hogwards? He atempted to make 7. Did he stop at 6? That was befor Harry was born. My tought is that this would made Harry the number 8? Maybe they missed one Horcrux? Maybe that opalneckless? Voldemord used objects of high value as Horcrux. We never saw or getting it discribed how Voldemord disappeared after the killing of James and Lilly and giving Harry the scar. I don't think the opal necklace was a horcrux. Arthur Weasley always had a fascination with muggle things, but most of his job meant dealing with wizards who were involved in muggle baiting. Basically, a witch/wizard would create a magical prank item and laugh when it upset the muggle that bought it, had trouble with it but refused to admit that something magical may have happened. I think the opal necklace might have been such an artifact, albeit much more nefarious. A thought came to mind while typing this up, what if this was a deadly muggle baiting item created by one of Grendalwald's followers. Grendalwald operated mostly around the events of WWII, and that would have been an opportune time to place such a deadly artifact that is only known to have killed 19 people.
My guess would be Morgana Le Fay. Voldemort wasnt the only wizard to create a horcrux. The only other person known was Herpo the Foul in Greece. The necklace wouldnt be made by Voldemort obviously as he came to know of them only in his sixth year. Merlin wouldn’t want to be staggering around with a necklace so not him. The necklace was in London not greece so not Herpo. Sk, it has to be Morgana. Given that she is the most powerful witch and horcruxes need powerful magic behind them so i think its a perfect match. I think morgana casted a very strong curse that would instantly kill the person but through time the power deteriorated so that’s why katie bell wasn’t killed. I love this theory. I wonder though. Could a horcrux hold 2 different people’s souls? Think about it, Borgin and Burke’s was an important place to Tom Riddle after Hogwarts (they even considered it a place he could’ve hidden one but ruled it out quick). What if he knew it a horcrux because he could tell from his own and used it to kill someone. Then added his soul to it also and put it back at Borgin and Burke’s on display again parading his brilliance to the world where everyone could see it and still not be clever enough to know. Remember, he wanted to make 7 and nagini was the last one. He didn’t know Harry was made a horcrux. So he could have another one that no one realized.
Failed or flawed horcrux is the vibe I get from what it did to Katie Bell. And it was either Morgan la Fae or some other, unknown, witch. The look of the necklace just doesn't feel like the sort of thing a wizard would try turning into a horcrux. I don't have any evidence to support any of this. It's just the feeling I get from the info I have.
I like to think herpo taught Voldemort how to make a proper horcrux, and then Voldemort destroyed his horcrux and killed Herpo because he wanted to be the only immortal.

Voldemort would most likely be immune to the dementor since the dementor may not be able to sense him cause Voldemort is sort of dead reincarnated person that's almost like a ghost but physical. In Deathly Hallows part 2 we can see him disintegrate into nothing. A dementor however could attack Voldemort if he was in his original human Tom Riddle form. (before the conversion)
this may sound strange, but I think the trolley witch is the owner of the hocrux. for all those who know, in the cursed child, she apparently did some crazy weird dark magic on herself that could've killed albus. besides, she is still alive so thats another point. And she has been noted to be very... unknown, so I feel she could be considered a creator. If not, anyone else seems unlikely.

I think that the curse on the necklace is something else. A dark creature had latched itself to the necklace. If you touch the necklace, the creature can touch you. You also cannot see the creature unless you touch it. The creature throws you around and then forces you to look into its face, which can kill you from fear.
I just thought of another possibility for the necklace, that would involve it not being a Horcrux specifically, but similar, in a way. What if it is some kind of soul trap that removes and imprisons the souls of its victims, like a sort of inanimate dementor? If that is the case, the other difference between the necklace and a dementor's kiss would be that the body of the victim dies, rather than just being a soulless, but physically alive, body. The effects of it trying to imprison her soul would definitely have been a horrible experience for Katie Bell, and she may have ended up trapped in it, along with at least 19 other souls...
I think that instead of the cursed child the sequel villain should have been Herpo. That the necklace did indeed belong to herpo, who made himself known at the same time period of the cursed child, he would actively mock the magic produced by his descendent voldemort and that he had experienced centuries to perfect his craft and delve into the true dark core of magic. Maybe find some way to tie his creation of the basilisk into it too.
I don't think it was really a horcrux or even a failed horcrux. I just think it was a very very very heavily chanted/jinxed/cursed object. My reason: You have to be mentally/emotionally close to a horcrux. The Opal Necklace cursed anyone who touched it. And if you get cursed by just touching it, then how could you ever get emotionally or mentally close to it?
I don’t get the vibe it’s a horcrux, because Tom asked slughorn a specific question, he said he was reading in the restricted section and came across the word horcrux and how one was made, then asking what if 6 were made. Slughorn was baffled and said just the thought of murdering one person is bad enough how could you think to kill 6. So if someone can elaborate on why 6 was the number of horcruxs voldy wanted to create in order to believe that would make him immortal, that would help. Because if just one was made, you have to think that the other 5 are hidden around the world for someone else too OR if maybe someone murdered someone but then regretted it after so stopped murdering and only one was made and process was never finished. *** side question: it’s unclear to me if Tom knew he created the ring as a horcrux considering he didn’t know it was attached to the resurrection stone. If he had used the stone, his loved ones may have given him up when their ghost like souls resurrected. Well, i think its just cursed. The horcuxes dont kill you, they interact with your soul and your character if you touch them for a long time. Also, i believe muggles died cause they are not wizards, and Katie was, so he experienced this power and reacted to it with a more wizarding way.. Great video though! We're never told what happened to the necklace after it was taken to Professor McGonagall. I have assumed sent to Auror Headquarters. I could have gone on to the Department of Mysteries or still be locked up at Auror Headquarters. If it is a horcrux that wizard could have been destroyed but be recoverable by the same dark ceremony used to recover Voldemort. The spells that guard a Horcrux vary from Horcrux to Horcrux as some can be handled. Others cannot. The Gaunt ring was heavily cursed. Salazar's locket not so much as protection had been set to protect it in the cave.

I think it more likely that the Horcrux was an anti-Muggle weapon which the owners guarded from destruction very carefully. It then ended up in Borgin and Burke’s, a veritable museum to Dark Magic, and so it was preserved again.
I think it was just cursed by someone but i do enjoy the horcrux idea and the thoughts behind it. If it was anyone i say it’s Ezkridis (don’t know if i spelled that right) or maybe even Raczidian. He had the dementors guard the forest around his castle and was a great dark wizard in his own right
Just a theory, connected from another theory I believe in, This Horcrux belonged to none other than, Gellert Grindelwald after he believed he had killed Dumbledore's sister Ariana. The Opal Necklace was a family heirloom that had been at the time in the possession of Bathilda Bagshot, Gellert's aunt. I believe it and Fawkes the Phoenix became Horcrux within hours of each other, after Dumbledore and Grindelwald had the duel which killed Ariana. Dumbledore created his to remove his grief, while Grindelwald created his to insure immortality. Grindelwald had no fear of death by Voldemort, because he to had succeeded at the cursed objects creation.
But there is one problem in on that. Gellert would of had to eat her when she died. Since the horcrux is made when they kill someone, eat them and it splits their soul into an item of choice.
@@themythicwaffle eating the victim killed is another fan theory. Also, magic tends to work with odd bits, so it could have been done just as easily as with some of her hair if all you need is a small bit of the person you killed. Hair is easy to obtain.
JK will say anything to make the story sound more exciting, but in reality a fan said something and she was like "hmm yeah that does sound cool, I'm glad I thought of that." Had she chosen to read the books she wrote she'd realize that Voldemort turned Harry into a Horcux without eating either of his parents or any part of Harry. Meaning her own claim in my mind is debunked.
The half blood prince does tells us what a horcrux is, and we actual get to see what happens when you touch the opal necklace. These two things is what makes me believe that the opal necklace is a horcrux! Its like an easter egg or foreshadowing what kind of dark magic we will see from here on.
It's been some time so maybe I forgot some details in the books but while listening I thought if Draco put Rosmerta under the Imperius curse so that she did the same to Katie, why did Katie open the Box? I don't think the necklace is a horcrux. It is stated in Half-Blood Prince book that Burkes would surely recognize a horcrux (referring to the locket, I believe). Thus, he would know that the necklace, which has been in his store for years, is another one as well. I think it is just an object cursed with very powerful dark magic, but not a horcrux. Still, that is a great analysis of yours.
The only reason Voldemorts horcruxes were hard to destroy was because he enchanted them (including Nagini) to be indestructible, otherwise Harry would be super durable. It was cursed jewelry created purely for muggle baiting, nothing more.
Given it looks to be an ancient piece of jewellery for a noblewoman, I think Herpo the Foul is the more likely option between him and Ekryzdis. Ekryzdis was an isolationist psychopath, but Herpo's fame in the time he lived in means he was almost certainly born into wealth. This tracks well with his descendants too, as Salazar Slytherin was likely incredibly wealthy. Perhaps the necklace belonged to someone Herpo loved? Are there any famous dark wizards who are women? Or who notably had a romantic partner who was a woman? If so that would be an even more likely candidate.
What if it is the necklace of the dementor queen... The first dementor ekrizidus made... There is the story of the unfortunate souls whose boat wrecked on the island... Males who were seafaring and most likely strong would have been seen as a threat, leaving a woman (or 2... Who knows) alone with the darkest wizard there was. We know he tortured people (as they say) until they were gradually turned into what we know today as dementors.. But they would have had to start somewhere. I think it is like a perpetual motion machine... Where , once the dementors were solidified as they are now and not trapped between the planes of the ethereal and mortal, now they just feed and breed. The question has been debated about how they breed and i do agree that (having mostly corporeal bodies) they would breed or spawn in means more similar to mitosis. I think if it had to start somewhere, ekrizidus would have practiced on "helpless women" first. I mean, super evil... so no morality clause or anything. So, what if the opal necklace is not his horcrux, rather a forcibly made horcrux. What if he stole her soul and trapped it in there, and that she can only interact when there is physical connection to the earth (someone touched her necklace) and that it was a way he experimented with soul magic of the darkest kind. What if?
There's no evidence that it is a Horcrux of any kind, but it certainly has a horrible curse on it. The one and only good reason for Voldemort to have stayed with Borgin and Burkes for so long (likely more than ten years) was the opportunity for him to analyse artefacts tainted with dark magic.
