Oh, Darren, I'm so sorry: it's a strange feeling when things that were part of your childhood are no longer there - especially when their destruction can be attributed to an individual, like this. I know it was pictured countless times, but if I could only take you back to the Blackpool I first met in the mid 1960s and share what made it so special through my infant eyes, I know you'd just love it! I don't mean just how busy it was - but those little things that only small boys notice, such as street lighting that differed from anything I'd ever seen before elsewhere, and the reversed colours of the signs (yellow lettering on hand-painted, leaded mid-green); the complete absence of any fluorescent strips in Fleetwood's Marks & Spencer store; and all those different traction poles and wiring designs as you progressed along the tramway! You've done us all proud with sharing what you remember in this little series though - but doesn't it all look so much smaller when you return as the somewhat bigger boy that you are now? But hey, we are kindred spirits that understand one another at least! So thank-you, my friend, and do keep it up, as I'm sure it's widely appreciated!

Unbelievable that all this was there, and has been lost. As always, love your photo fades that show exactly where things were. Those new houses are dreadful, tiny, featureless little boxes. They could have shown a little more imagination when they built them. Thank you for capturing the past for us.

I went here as a kid, can't believe they knocked it all down to build a few houses. It would definitely have been a very popular attraction today if it was still open. More of my childhood lost for a quick pay day.

Seeing the aerial glider made me recall a "new attraction" in Gatlinburg-pigen forge Tennessee area. For those unfamiliar it's basically a massive tourist attraction area. The new attraction this year is a basically the aerial glider though slightly more modern looking. Places like Shipley Glen are a concept that would be most beneficial to return to society.

Hi Darren I've really enjoyed this series, revived so many memories which I've commented about, but the overiding memory from the late 50's were the peacocks screaching in the Glen Gardens tearoom before we lads scampered off to play hide and seek in the Glen rocks and join in the Glen to Ilkley ramble over the moors on a Bank Holiday weekend. Cheers DougT

Just thinking here: From what you said about the Aerial-Glide being the first suspended Roller Coaster...... I guess that makes it the Great-Great-Grandfather of the Silver Bullet ride at Knott's Berry Farm. At 7:59 I like the last instruction on the safety notice signage, "Hang On Tight" --- Priceless....... Darren, top-notch work again.

This is so sad, back in the 70s I lived just around the corner off Lucy Drive Drive and can rememebr the Aerial Guide well and was lucky enough to have been able to ride on it many times. Must be getting old (65 in two weeks!), another part of my past is gone. Would have loved to have been able to take my grandkids there, that was not to be but Shipley Glen, Baildon Moor and Saltaire are still there for us all to enjoy.

I remember going here with my late Dad probably when I was about 6 or 7 in the 90s. I didn't have a clue where it was, but remembered finer details even after such a long time - if I remember rightly, I'm sure there was a playground right next to the car park by the tram. I think I remember the layout of the rides as well. I was absolutely desparate to find out where it was and ended up taking my mum to the park across the road, I think it was earlier this year and was gobsmacked that I instantly recognised the car park! I've just come across your video, so haven't watched yet, but so excited to reignite some of those memories of my Dad 🥰

Even tho i was born in 1989 in Oregon, so many things that used to be around are no longer there. I didn't think that things would change so much once i grew up in my 30's. All the unique obscure places, homes, shops, entertainment centers, animated series/movies have basically disappeared and i miss it all very much. The Combination of it all just gave things such a better vibe, a soul. I didn't think we would lose it all.. i wish our society could bring these things back and not let "profits" be the sole purpose if something can exist or not. Something's are so beneficial for people, for the community. No matter what. Money shouldn't stop these things from existing. It's too beneficial for the community/society

What a great video, thank you so much! It brings back memories of the early 80's when I was at Sal Grammar school. I was naughty and sometimes bunked off lessons with a friend. We used to sneak out of the back of the school into the wooded area which was the bottom of the Glen Tramway! I remember it being overgrown, but the tramway was still running. I seem to remember the end of the tramway being down near the carpark of Salt Grammar school. It was a long time ago though, so I could be wrong. I hever remember it going all the way to Saltaire. We often used to get chips from Titus Street Fisheries in Saltaire on our lunch break (we called it dinner break).
