I finished this game at the arcade with my dad when I was a kid. I loved dinosaurs and Jurassic Park and this was the perfect title for us to play. He's been dead for 10 years now and watching this fills me with memories of him dropping paleontology trivia while we were playing. I miss you, dad.
Fun Fact: While the Carnotaurus never appeared in the film, in the novel, it was described as having the same abilities as a chameleon. Love how they included that in the game!
This game was graphically impressive for 1997 and incredibly innovative for the rail shooter genre. It was a damn shame this game never got ported to any home platforms, nor will it ever receive any ports due to licensing issues.
I remember that too! I was 3-4 yrs when I finally got some money from my mom to play arcadegames at the cafe back home. We were done eating and parents love to chat with other grownups.. So I snuck out with my money to play. She thought I was gonna play some racing-sim, but figured out what I really was playing when I came back running screaming my head off. Shoot outside the screen to reload. I didn't know that. Still, took 4-5 raptors with me to the grave ingame lol. Good times.
That’s was a plot point in The Lost World novel that the raptor population had exploded and Ingen hadn’t properly raised them so these raptors were far more unhinged even resorting to full blown cannibalism.
5:58 It's amazing to think that this game actually lets you shoot at a dinosaur while it's taking a dump, and this was 4 years before Conker's Bad Fur Day!
Man I miss this game I wish they kept it in arcades, it's still one of the best games ever Better then the current version of the Jurassic arcade games...
like hell. This game is better than the JP 3 game with that BS dodge mechanic. But the 2015 JP game with those turret things is not a bad game. its just less aim focuses and more gunz blazing. v
I went to the Nicklecade every year for my birthday, and this was always the first game I played, despite having beaten it already. Then when I turned 11 we drove up to it only to realize an autoparts store stood in its place. I'm 20 now, and I still miss it.
@@jonathanche6553 it's not that i'm not a fan of the accurate look... but going from big lizard-like predators like the rex and Spino.. to an oversized chicken and tadpole... is kind of a lot to process specially considering that when i was a kid, Stan Winston's vision of the JP dinosaurs were so cool, that it was universally accepted as the most accurate representation up until that point
A. Shepard all arcade game characters were all like that. But since it’s just an arcade game and not anything mainstream, it’s not really that much of an issue.
First ever game that used Sega Model 3 hardware. Model 3 was easily the most powerful arcade board in the world in 1997, much more powerful than the Dreamcast which was still over a year from launch.
@@josetomascamposrobledano4618 yeah lol, i remember playing the new HOTD's in an arcade while in las vegas and that shit looked like night and day compared to the original HOTD
I used to stand in the arcade just to see the screen saver gameplay for this game. Admit it, for that generation of graphic, this was the best looking Jurassic Park game ever made, the Velociraptors and T-rex models looks exactly like the movies! P.S. I like this playthrough, they are not perfect, pure regular co-op, and it's fun to watch!
Games very legendary in the sega and nintendo 64 era. Now games are only good in graphics but crap in story and vibes. Those games like Turok, James Bond Goldeneye, Spyro the dragon were almost impossible to beat.
I remember this being a ride, you would sit inside and the arcade ride would tilt when moving in a direction. I also remember the bass was insane. This game had amazing surround sound for its time.
Hello ! 4 years Late to your Talk but… Are You Talking About the Updated/Special Edition of the Arcade Game ? I’ve herd that that Version had Massive Differences of the Original Version like… - Removing the Chameleon Type Carnotaurus Boss, - The Final Boss would be the Tyrannosaurus Rex (Male) Rampaging Through San Diego to stay Accurate To The Film Itself, - Both Players Even Shared the same Health Bar, If you Actually Played that Version Can you Actually Describe what the gameplay and scenes where mostly like ? And it’s Differences. Like from beginning to end. And what bosses were in that version. i Unfortunately never played that Version as a Kid…but it Sounded really interesting to me when i Discovered it on The Internet and Read About it !
but hell with this gameplay, gave me headache from the shoot flashing, everytime i saw it. Isn't out there any editing software that can be able to detect and eliminate this flashing patterns ????? Would be perfect for any light-gun gameplays from this era.
Jeez, a chameleon-type dinosaur sounds so terrifying. No idea where and when it's going to strike, you just feel a looming presence of dread constantly shifting around you.
I remember playing this game with my family at a minneapolis arcade when I was a kid. I knew from the moment I entered that dark arcade booth that I would dedicate myself in playing it till I finally beaten it after a few hours. Good memories.
I find it kinda ironic that "SEGA" and "Capcom" both developed a Zombie Horror game and later made a dinosaur theme version using similar play-styles and game engines.. .. ..and vise versa (Ex:"House of the Dead"/"The Lost World") ("Resident Evil"/"Dino Crisis")
Fancy seeing you here. Yup. There was a huge Dinosaur craze in the mid 90s. Especially after the release of Jurassic Park in 93. Honestly, the JP shooters were probably the best of the JP games. The formula works so well. The biggest shame is that this never got a home port due to licensing issues and Dino Crisis never got an "Umbrella Chronicles" treatment on the Wii. That would've been SICK.
I love how the T-Rex takes the baby like a crocodile with its jaws carefully and the baby even squeaks. Interesting that the bull is the one to grab the baby while the female takes out her maternal vengeance out on you. Nice that the Jurassic Park T. rex males defending there young too.
I used to play this with my Dad and Sister in a little arcade in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote when we went on holiday in the summer many years ago. Must have been 2003/4/5. Glad videos like this are still around.
Loved this arcade cabinet growing up. I say give the Jurassic license back to Sega, they knew what to do with it whether on the Genesis or at the arcades.
The last time I came across the hardware itself was in 2015 I think, unfortunately it was in quite a horrible condition (one light gun totally broken, sound device either broken too or turned off to avoid the potential annoyance of players) and when the next year I returned to the same place (was visiting it as part of my summer vacation) it was no longer there. :(
Oh my gosh, the memories are flooding back! The best having to do with when the arcade would do unlimited credits so even if you died, you wouldn't have to pay extra.
I found this game to be way scarier than THOTD games as a kid. I used to play this a lot when my dad worked at the arcade. One of the best arcade shooters ever in my opinion.
When I was a wee kidlet a friend and I teamed up to beat this no matter how much money it took. We drew a crowd as we brute forced our way to the end. One of the best memories of my childhood
I finished this game with my dad when I was a kid. It took a number or coins but it was fun! That Carnotaurus is still scary tho. I always imagined that he would appear with his mouth open whenever we drive by a wooded area
90’s arcade games are unparalleled. You can’t tell me otherwise. Between this, Star Wars Trilogy arcade, House of the dead, Area 51, and that’s not even half of my list
I played Re and Silent hill as a kid but these rail shooter, light gun games ALWAYS freaked me out LOL. Is anyone else like this? I avoided all of these kinda games like the plague
This arcade machine was still going at the Segaworld Arcade in Bargate, Southampton LONG after the film was over- at least until 2005 if my memory is correct.
I use to play this with my dad when I was a kid. I'm a huge dinosaur fan back as a kid I would always rewatch Jurassic park trilogy around thrice a week. Then my father would always bring me to the arcade every weekend and we would play this. That Chameleon Carnotaurus always gave me nightmare as a child but I also always liked that stage.
I 💖 this game it's my favorite This game does not exist anymore 😭 it used to be in my hometown in here in Laredo Peter pipers Pizza 🍕 I really really miss that game.
I loved this game. It would always be my first pick to play at the arcade my mall used to have. I won very few times, but I didn't care, I had fun regardless.
