The Love Boat 1979 Closing 

I remember watching the Love Boat (and Fantasy Island following it) on a regular basis every Saturday night back in the early-mid 1980s when they were still originally on the air. There was something so COMFORTING and SOOTHING about the opening theme as well as each and every episode. Entertaining too. Escapist fantasy was just the right kind of formula that I needed and just perfect for a saturday night after a whole week of stressful nonsense. But the fact that i watched and loved the love boat was my MOST closely guarded and BIGGEST well kept secret at the time. Because a teenaged boy simply did NOT admit to his fellow teens about watching love boat as well as being a fan of that show. Not unless he wanted to be the target of ridicule. There were many tv shows around that time a teen could openly admit to being a fan of. But The Love Boat wasnt one of them.

My late grandma loved watching this every Saturday night before me, her and grandpa headed to bed since we had mass the next morning. I used to watch EMERGENCY! at 5PM Saturday night

A simple time of life the 70's

Fantasy Island was on right afterwards. My childhood Saturday nights. No school in the morning just cereal and cartoons. I loved the 70s. The only thing that survived from that decade was Star Wars.

And now stay tuned for Fantasy Island.....next on ABC! Poor Saturday nights are a ghost town for network television.

Was also in the day when ABC ruled the airwaves with hit after hit after hit shows. A look at the Nielsen ratings for the ENTIRE 1978-79 season showed that of the 20 top shows ABC had 14 of them. From #1 thru #14. 😊😊😊

Watched before going to the disco

I used to see reruns of this when I was little and the synthesizer part reminded me of a hairdryer switching speeds.

I enjoy this show and the theme song as a kid and to know that someday, I'll be on a cruise ship.

I remember the 1979 short-lived version of "Friends": Sunday nights on ABC.

@fleshtreat78 Your grandma was top-notch all the way. She only worked on some of the best shows ever on television anywhere. Everyone who wore her clothes looked like a star...and most of them were! Man I know I'm old this song reminds me watching it but I guess no one remembers this show this was the closing song and I cried 😢that it was going off but I always watch this show on Sundays after church

They should have kept this closing theme for the duration of the series. When they changed it slightly for later seasons it wasn’t as good.

Why does this closing theme seem so sad? I hardly ever watched Love Boat when it originally aired in the 70's on Saturday nights. But I'm more familiar with it in reruns. It came on Mon-Fri at 10:00am-11:00am. Then Family Feud from 11:00am-11:30am. Then Ryan's Hope at 11:30am-12:00pm. Then the rest of the soaps. I could only watch it in the daytime reruns during school holidays and Winter vacation, Spring vacation, etc.
