The best sisters in music I remember for long time. Hope Jessica would come back sometimes as special guest in Larkin Poe ... great gift for the music this family!
For sure....she's really good. Actually, i'd like to see Larkin Poe get more back into their string/bluegrass roots, or at least throw a few songs in here and there, but methinks that won't happen...
Not exactly morphed. Oldest sister left them for UGA and most thought that might propel them into legendary status since that school was highly involved in giving us bands like REM, The Indigo Girls, Drivin N Cryin, The GA Satellites, and The B-52's. BUT.... for whatever reason she dumped them and there is no word on her since. The younger 2 were in high school and decided to try an whole new genre that in reality was not invented yet called GOTHIC BLUES. When they did they burned all their folk music clothes and song sheets and a few bridges and started fresh. I really like the 2 as LARKIN POE, but totally miss them as The Lovell Sisters. Thank God for youtube otherwise we would not have access to this.
@@kgtmustang I'd really like to see them at least dabble in their folk/string/bluegrass roots.... They're great in their current form, but it would still be nice to hear a few songs thrown in here and there..... As for the oldest sister, i thought i heard somewhere she got married (kids?), which isn't too conducive to touring and such.... Still, as other posters said, it'd be great to have her return for a few guest appearances, or some kind of reunion......
@@CorneiliusLibowitz It would seem that the whole folk genre kinda closed a door to them and the older sister dissing them was no help in that regard. We all thought that going to UGA home of REM, Drivin N Cryin, The Indigo Girls, the B-52's, and the Georgia Satellites was going to help her to blossom and my fear was she was going to do a Belinda Carlisle and dump the band that discovered her for solo success. Who knows. Meantime Larkin Poe seems to be destined to follow up Bonnie Raitt which is not that bad of a thing. Of course folk music is never that big when the nation has gone republican. Maybe now it has gone blue folk music may resurge.
@@kevingthompson14 That was 10 years ago... Now, it seems like there's a big folk revival, if you will, going on with these younger (millennials?) artists....Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Sierra, Hull, Sarah Jarosz, along with their associated acts and bandmates are a few who come to mind..... All high quality artists as well... Surely there's room for LP to get in on the action, no?
@@CorneiliusLibowitz All that is grand but these 2 gals are kinda looking to be more hip and trendy and are managing that ok. Personally they took it hard when big sister bailed on them. They ended up scrambling Larkin Poe together from the ashes. Can they do folk if they wanted? YES. They could also do fem rock and metal if they wanted. So many possibilities. They are gifted gals.
Just saw Larkin Poe in Santa Cruz Ca. First concert after 14 months off due to COVID. Aargh! They tore it up on a chilly breezy nite right next to the beach for 1.5 hours! It was great to hear Preaching Blues live! Won’t be back this way til ?? Expensive but worth it!
I'm happy for Larkin Poe's current success, but I miss the road they were on when they recorded this in 2009. Moreover, I really miss hearing Jessica. Her voice was both pretty & gutsy sounding, and I miss hearing it. Times change, for better or worse ~
@@butchjackson4428 I would have put down a rule; no tattoos. Other than that they have done pretty good for musicians. It's a tough road, llke any other. They have avoided going in a ditch. Actually, they have done phenomenally well. I've been a fan since music fog.
@@carolehassonryan1559I believe their dad's name is David. They do have a younger brother, whose name they never mention, maybe he doesn't want any reflected limelight!
God bless Jessica, Rebecca and Megan! Their amazing feel for harmony and rhythm is matched only by their unabashed joy and enthusiasm for doing what they were so clearly put on this earth to do! Please don't ever stop! Dare I say it again?.......WHOOOOHOOOOO!!!
Hey MusicFog this video is outstanding, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best bands iv'e seen on youtube. thanks JessicaScott what a brill share ,,,Alan
Absolutely great sound, all round. Nice + clean, toe-tapping stuff, and very enjoyable to listen to. 5***** Thanks Hankmacgregor for the share. Regards, Paul.
I don't know if I'm reading too much into this, but ... when I watch this, I see Rebecca and Megan looking at each other and interacting throughout, but I don't see either of them looking at Jessica very much. In fact, I'm not sure that Megan ever looks at her. And Rebecca only glances at her a couple of times, but she practically loves on Megan, and vice versa. I've had that vibe from other videos of the three together, too. So, I'm not that surprised that big sister split. I'm getting the feeling that, for whatever reason, they weren't all that comfortable together.
I saw an LP interview where they said it since they were small kids had been Jessica and the girls at home. Rebecca and Megan have as I understand it been a tight team since they were tiny kids and "big" Megan took always care of her baby sister.
I'm still a newcomer to the Larkin Poe story, but have watched a number of these earliest videos including Jessica now. I'm guessing she realised that her sisters were more than ready and able to go their own way, and if so then amen to that decision.
This may not be the best place to say this but the blonde looks exactly like my ex!!! I am in shock! Love the music. Brilliant actually!!! Great vid! I need to watch it again. Wow! 5 stars Andy
@critter770 Hey, it's NOT Zeppelin. Not sure where the Lovell's got the song, but chances are Zeppelin borrowed it from Blind Willie Johnson's original 1928 recording. "Nobody's Fault But Mine" is also a Willie Johnson tune. John Sebastien and Bob Dylan also covered "In My Time of Dying" in the 1960s. The Lovell Sisters do my favorite version though. Hated it when they brought up last year.
I wish Jessica would return with her sisters under their grandfather's namesake.. Hard to believe they're all sisters with the different hair color lol for those wondering which is which, starting with the oldest is Jessica (redhead), Megan (blonde) & Rebecca (brunette)
The Lovell Sisters, that was 3 months on The Americana Radio Chart last year with the record Time to grow, change name and constellation. One of the sisters Jessica has taken a break and left off getting married and going to school. The 2 remaining sisters Rebecca and Megan continue with a new constellation under the name Larkin Poe.
Only the hair dresser knows. Jessica is sporting red hair here while Rebecca has brunette hair. March forward a few years and Rebecca is sporting red hair as Larkin Poe.
Last I heard, and this was five years ago - she's living a quiet life w/ her husband on a farm in western Canada? She was the oldest, and had put off getting married for a while. The idea being the Lovells would be signed to a major label & when it became clear that was not going to happen, Jessica decided to move on. BTW, I heard from someone within their ranks, the closest they came was a meeting w/ Disney - however Disney is not interested in any group or artist unless they can own you body & soul. Apparently, Disney wanted short skirts & lotsa sparkle - and the girls were basically, -no way! Personally, the short skirts would've bothered me, but o/w I agree.
Ya Big sister come back and sing with your little sisters Larkin Poe once in a wile their keeping it alive for you..! PeePaw meddling..! I'm just saying..!
