I was 14 in December 1973, weird. Once when I was a kid, about 6 or so, I went trick or treating with my older sister in the Harlem NYC projects. I remember a man opening his door wide and I could see a candy bowl on the dining room table just beyond. He bid us to come in and take as much as we wanted, but my sister refused and prevented me from entering his apartment. I was sooo mad! I can see that bowl in my memory so well, and the man too. I was a stupid child, but I'm alive.

This movie should be a must in every single school in every single country. Pedophilia and trafficking are the purest form of evil. When I was 13 I was walking down the street and a red car pulled next to me, it was two scary looking men. We made eye contact and one made me the gesture to get closer to them and the other told me to get in the car. In a matter of few seconds the car got even closer to me and I ran as fast as I could, thankfully all of this happened close to a store and I entered it. I cried and I was so frightened. I never told my parents, just my husband, when I saw this scene where the poor girl goes underground. I had that flash back and when I have that flashback it always feels so real. I'm so blessed I ran as soon and as fast as I could, I'm blessed to be a young adult and be a mother and wife and my heart breaks for all the innocent suffering. If I wouldn't have ran that day I wouldn't be here, I would be a missing girl.

One night I was accidentally that creep. It was getting dark early and I stopped my car next to a minor girl and a boy walking on the sideway. I asked innocently for direction and they both screamed "NO! GO AWAY!!!" That was the moment I realized how creepy that situation might be for the two. It was creepy for me, too because I might potentially being accused of creeping on children. While realizing, I awkwardly said something like "Oh, um, sorry, I just wanna know the direction, but good job of you two. Don't talk to strangers." I was about to leave, when they stopped me and told me the direction anyway.

Here’s a funny(ish) story about this film. My mom saw this film, and read the book, and for months afterwards, she wouldn’t let me or my sister walk home. She made sure to come pick us up everyday, despite the fact that it was only a two minute drive. I think that speaks volumes about how effective this film is at traumatising you, and that’s a good thing

I don’t think it’s the trauma that caused her to do this, but the realization things like that are very real and can sadly happen, my sister is 13 years old, and even when I didn’t have a car I’d still pick her up when it’s was after dark, even if it was also 2 minutes away, anything can happen, I’ll keep making sure she and my sister (a little older than her) will never as long as they’re young walk home alone.

The thing that made me really sad is when her parents did not get the justice. They never had a chance to find her bones and get the killer. I am so frustrated every time they were close to the truth but they never got to see it. Like, come on! that murderer that i was looking for all the time is just next to me! This movie Broke my 11 yr old heart. I don't think up until that point I had ever seen an injustice like that on screen of her sister and crush never finding her body or getting good closure. Man that hit me. It opened me up to the reality that things don't always shake out well. And the second time I saw the opening on TV where she was narrating I balled so hard knowing what would happen and it was eery in a way that her voice had that mellow yet content sound, like she had already lived the story and was retelling what was inevitable.

The fact that this movie does not need to visualize what happened to Susie, yet still grasps the horror of her story, is remarkable. The uncanny reality that this is happening/has happened to a child. I remember myself at 14 and remember being so full of life and love for this world and the people in it, and the way Susie’s story captures that robbed innocence of childhood and trust parallels to my own trauma at 14, before I knew I had lost that kind of innocence. Just, wow. I also researched the author of the book and reading the book, knowing Alice took her own experience and was able to empathize and capture the reality surrounding the victims of brutal predators, is remarkable. The admiration I have for this woman…

This was a really impactful film when I was a child and it still holds that feeling now. The uneasiness, sadness and the wrath ou feel as you travel through Suzie’s mind and her emotions-it’s a lot to take in. Highly recommend watching it.

i watched this with my friend and her mother as a kid, the memory of it feels like a wound, i remember feeling so wrecked watching it because i’m a girl myself, the sorrow of knowing that so many girls the age i was at the time have been taken away from their entire lives because of some twisted person, and the notion of them even being haunted by them in the after life, AND the fact that sometimes justice is not immediately or even ever served broke my heart like nothing else. this film is absolutely beautiful and painful, hearing alice by cocteau twins still makes my heart fill up and my eyes get watery.

Sometimes justice is never served.. There was this sweet child in my neighborhood.. She was 7 .. She was taken.. We found her 2 days later on the verge of death in the woods near railway tracks.. But she made it.. But she didn't remember anything.. She couldn't tell the police anything about the man who took her.. The family left the neighborhood very soon.. And years later so did my family.. But it irks me so bad that he got away.. Got away with doing what he did.. I was 14 then...

I cried every time I watch this. Now as a mother of a teen i realized how difficult I was when I was a teen. All those scolding I get from coming home late is my mother/aunt worrying about the people who have bad intentions about my well being. Until now I am praying to God that my mom/aunt forgave me for all the stupid things I have done. Now every time I watch or remember this movie I get so protective of my teen son. This movie should be shown in schools.

Phenomenal film, one of best films ever made, not your usual dramatic, boring, anticipated kind of movie, truly a masterpiece. What emotions you you would have while watching this are infuriating, debilitating, and captivating, and something you gotta watch over and over and again. I remember watching this with my sister and I was just 15, now I'm 26 and my love for this movie hasn't ever changed, absolutely compelling and enthralling. And really love Saorse Ronan, undeniably world-class film actress.

I remember seeing this one and The Uninvited back-to-back on HBO when I was alone in my home during 8th grade summer vacation. I still remember how scared I was after that. I kept thinking that all the ghosts try to communicate with people and some ghosts (or in-between people) are violent.

I remember the trailer alone used to make me feel the strangest emotions, especially with that song that comes on when she finds herself in the in-between. I guess this movie hit home because my younger brother was still small when this movie came out and I kept imagining how my father would have felt in that situation. Also, the concept of life and death adds to those mixed emotions. Sad but great movie.
