Let’s not figure out an answer to that question because I don’t want English to win consistently. In all seriousness though, just like the mystery behind Stonehenge construction the answer is hidden behind a veil of mystery
The same reason England don't produce players like Kroos, Xavi, Busquets, Jorginho, Rodri, Guardiola, Arteta, Ødegaard, KDB, Messi. Players that can read the game like the back of their hand, are incredibly intelligent, are usually unbelievable passers and that's mostly why they're so good. Southgate's probably the most progressive and adaptive English manager there is (other than Potter and Carrick)
@alanledesma4945 They've a better world cup head to head against Argentina, France better Euro head to head v Spain, Holland and against Germany its 2-2. They are only down against Italy (3-2) and Portugal (2-0) St the Euros.
England get this criticism because they could be better. They have one of the best squads and play some of the worst football in the tournament. France also get this criticism for playing this way as well when they don’t win the tournament.
Yeah, but France Is way better than England at doing what they do. When they sit low and defend they look More solid, they can press aggressively if they need to and attack better than England.
@@rmv9194 Yes of course France execute their gameplan better and create better chances. I just meant that you could play more attractive football with that squad as well and that gets brought up every now and then.
If England played exciting, attacking football like they should be with their personnel I don't think they would get criticized even if they didn't end up winning the whole thing. It's because of how dreadful they look on the pitch even when they scrape by
@DannyBoy777777 Has so far, still there, he's leaving win or lose. Bet you're brilliant at your job every day, week in week out, I know I'm not, but, I can blag my way through it. Rumours going round Ten Haag is being lined up😳🤢👋
Southgates record for most knockout games won is so fake. Its just based on favourable draws. He always loses the big matches just like we have before.
@@sirdetmist3204 in my opinion it's partly the supporters fault for heaping too much on players and giving abuse when those hopes are dashed my one bad decision. It should be a fun time no matter what. It's a sport not a war. Would you complain if they won it playing like this?
And it's sad considering the ridiculous attacking talent they've got on the pitch and bench, like bro let them attack the goal, express themselves on the ball, take risks, create chances for themselves and others💀
That's spot on. As a NUFC supporter I'm a big fan of Trippier, but he has showed he is not an adequate left back. And frankly, his form this year really tailed off. Shouldn't be starting, and probably shouldn't be in the squad. Guehi has been class, we will miss him when the Swiss show us how it's done.
@@horizo5979 are you aware that he is wrong-footed for that side of the pitch? He's not been brilliant. Not his fault, he's playing out of position but it's just not correct to say he's been brilliant. Kneecaps that entire side of the pitch.
The Slovakia game is where it was clear, England starts eating them then Southgate suddenly thinks he should give away the ball and play defense, what a waste for the talents you have on the field! Coward mentality.
When you look at Southgate's decision making in this tournament, it shows either one of two things: he is intentionally throwing the games, or he is really the worst manager we've ever seen.
even tho he brought on olly watkins and cole palmer against netherlands and palmer assisted watkins for the winner, you people know nothing and have doubted southgate despite him proving you wrong again and again
Yes it really does appear Southgate was doing all he could to stop us from winning , as mad as that sounds it's possible he never forgave the public for missing that penalty back in 96 - if we were being completely honest with are self's you could have written the script for how the final would go .
Haram football is what I described that tool Southgate. Southgate should have left after Euro 2020 when he almost destroyed the careers of Rashford, Sancho and Saka in the penalty shootout. The media targeted them and vilified them because of Southgate's big brain moment. They way England scammed their way to another quarter final is crazy and they've been awful.
Sancho & Saka he threw under the bus, I agree & felt bad for the kids. But Rashford was an experienced pen taker & a logical choice. Agree about Haram football tho, perfect description lol.
Southgate has More knockout match tournament wins than any other manager since Ramsay… he has more than the last 7 managers put together, in fact. The only manager since Ramsay to get England to a major final. The second-best win-rate in history. The only manager in modern times to avoid scandal off the pitch, emotional meltdowns, wars with the press or random quitting. He is also lucky. A perfect team plays well and wins, but let’s face it, England are winning and that’s obviously the most important thing. Get a grip - at least wait until we are knocked out to complain like a pub bore
@@papalegba6796 How is picking players who want to take penalties 'bottling' a decision? The players 'bottled it' if anyone did. Oh that's right, can;t criticise non white people for anything. Pathetic.
England is a true anty-football, because it's not only based on defence, it is without any soul and plan. For example Atletico was also defensive but they were much faster, they knew how and what they want to play. England? They just don't know what to do and it is just unwatchable.
England's game plan since 2006 has been: we step onto the pitch and we wait for the opponent to get scared of us because we have so many "stars". And when the opponent fails to be scared: surprised Pikachu faces.
Living in England, you would think we'd be excited for Euro 2024, there are very few national flags, talks of excitement... Southgate has managed to bore a nation to death, I haven't been interested in watching England for the last 3 years or so... I'd rather see a team go down fighting than the really poor football and lack of tactics we've seen, Southgate and robots who are programmed to bore the opponents to death... That's what we're seeing.. The sooner they are knocked out and Southgate is gone, the better, Southgate should of gone after the last Euros...
Yeah, that’s an intelligent take - hope for your country to lose rather than keep winning, just because you think that they should be winning better. And the last Euros, we reached the final - why the hell would you sack the first manager to take you to a final since 1966? Weird.
@@spitfires1979 The game is a show, not only a competition. It has to be entertaining by definition. Sure, you have to give England credit for progressing to the Euros final last time. So what? Look at Argentina at the World Cup. They won the tournament, and they were fun to watch. That's what a team should be.
@@spitfires1979 I want the England players to play with passion, even if they lose, at least show some fight... England have performed poorly and Euro 2024 it's even worse.. England fans don't want to see a bank manager, manging decline with the skills of neville chamberlain, we want to see winston churchill, use what we have at our disposal and if we win Euro 2024, we've earnt it...
@@spitfires1979 would rather play good and go out in the semi's or RO16 than play this dreadfull football and get to a final, i don't enjoy watching us each week, and our entire group was actually so mind-numbing so i couldn't even watch the other team play good
England has more talent than the U.S, but i think they are honestly in a similar situation, where their talent is being held back by a terrible coach with safe and conservative tactics.
How is pressure a valid excuse for these poor performances? I mean I understand that we have no idea how that level of pressure can be but all of them play already in very high stakes environments. Between champion league campaigns, league wins and all other cups, are you telling me they are feeling the pressure against czechia in the groups?
@OMIMreacts Not true due to expectations on opposing teams vs England. Slovakia players weren't expected to win against England, same applies to Serbia, Slovenia and Denmark. That will also apply to Switzerland. They will have to reach the Semis to meet teams that have the same level of pressure and even then the English media machine is would still trump those teams.
At this point we all know that southgate ia gonna luck his way into the final, since the english side of the tournament is pretty much a joke at this point. Then hes gonna bottle it in incredible fashion to germany/spain but everybody will still hail him as a hero since he got so close, and football is a sport, where results matter and not how you get them.
Finally, a calm and unbiased explanation of whats going on with England. I couldnt get through all the hyperventilating from the English YTers, you'd think it was Revelations or sum
Well this guy isn’t English so he’s probably gonna be more objective. Imagine how infuriating it is for us English to have decent players made to play such bad football that we know won’t measure up against very good teams We’ve never beaten a top team at a tournament under Southgate and it’s more unlikely now . And then the FA says they want to extend his contract. We are angry
Southgate tactics - Pray for divine intervention and keep going through, then saying 'Look! It's working!'. How a manager can fail a team with players of the calibre of that England front 4 is nothing short of astonishing. WERE GOING HOME BOYS! I would like to thank the swiss in advance for finally firing southgate. See you in the world cup.
Do you agree football is at its if not one of the lowest point now especially club football where there are countless expensive flops and barely any world-class strikers or defenders like before and all the big clubs taking gambles with their unproven overhyped managerial appointments destined to fail. At least international football gives some glimmer of hope .
They have been fucking awful and i am so glad that i did not pay to go over to Germany and watch this shit. I honestly feel for the fans who are over there and after paying all that money and getting absolutely nothing back in return. Showing no fight or determination or PRIDE for our country. Very embarrassing.
Slovakia were better, teamwise. But England seem to have a habit of bringing teams down into the gutter with them. Almost like how a heavyweight boxer uses the clinch and nullifies the opposition, scrappy, messy, zero football. But it could be working. Certainly have a belief and will to win
@@sharingiscaring1952 the only reason it worked is because of Bellingham's individual brilliance. If he didn't hit that unbelievable bicycle kick, they would've lost.
I am confused by the fact so many can call out England's poor performance this Euro, accept their last second winner against Slovakia was rare genius by an individual that Southgate's late substitution actively hampered, and still so universally expect them to beat Switzerland? Like, have we been watching the same team here, England has been terrible against generally weaker teams , just managing to scrape by every time. Switzerland has way more of a chance than people are giving them, Southgate's luck will not last forever.
I'm convinced that, if Switzerland manages to perform as well as they did against Italy, then that's it for England. And they haven't been at 100% peak performance against Italy either; this team can do even better. England will need all the luck they can muster.
Because the last game showed that individual quality counts for something. There is so much talent in that England squad that they can pull the rabbit out of the hat and win even when not playing well. If they beat Switzerland it's in spite of Southgate, not because of him.
Because Switzerland are a fine unit collectively but got no experience at this stage of competitions and they don't have any truly outstanding player other than Xhaka. Sadly (and fortunately for England) individual quality of players does make a huge difference at this stage.
If we win the tournament playing the way we are it would be a crime against football. Jimmy Greaves said "football is a funny old game" and it is, but it's not that fucking funny.
I've said for years, as a Utd fan. We are the best equipped to call England / Southgate out. Its pretty much the same football we have seen at United for the past 5+ years.
England needs to build their play around one man... not Jude Bellingham, nor Harry Kane, nor any of the multitude of attacking talent we have at our disposal. No, the one man we need to anchor our strategy around is Declan Rice. Rice is both a rampant defensive midfielder and probably England's second best passer of the ball, behind Harry Kane. Playing Rice just in front of the defensive line allows him to bolster the defence while also acting as a "quarter-back", firing long passes from deep midfield up to the strikers and out to the wings-a similar role to the great Andrea Pirlo. Rice's midfield partner Gallagher/Mainoo has the role in this strategy of creating space for Rice. Both players are suited to this role in different ways: Gallagher can press the opposition midfield, forcing them to give up space that Rice can then exploit. Mainoo can push the ball forward, opening up space behind him for Rice to drop into.
Lol second best passer of the ball? Rice passes sideways too much to have such plaudits. Trent is much better at passing than him. The issue is that England under Southgate have zero off the ball movement. No runs in behind the opposition defence. I'll agree that Rice and Bellingham are the best midfielders in the squad. But Rice is great because of his positioning, tackling and ball carrying ability. Not so much his passing range.
A delegation of a few from the English FA went to Barcelona to learn how to play the way that they did. This was when Pep Guardiola was there. One of the coaches who went over, a top coach himself, who carries out training courses for coaches, really enjoyed the experience. He learned a lot and raved about all that he had learnt and what he had seen. When speaking to him personally about his trip, I realised things would never change and that there was a fundamental flaw. This coach revealed to me his overwhelming weakness which was his pride. Although there are some genuine people at the FA. A lot do not recognise that they themselves are the problem. There are people who are humble, clever and honest enough to want something better but they are outnumbered. Too many people at the FA are too close minded, stubborn, arrogant, have inaccurate preconceived ideas, are overconfident and do not have much imagination. This makes them very limited in what they can perceive, understand, learn, conceive, create, nurture and develop. They restrict coaches and managers in an environment which tightly guards the status quo. They neither produce or harbour positive or progressive change. It's probably better for English coaches and managers to have a loose but friendly association with the FA and to develop themselves beyond doubt.
People saying “ why can’t England produce world class managers” while their own country has been knocked out for WEEKS is so funny 😂. It’s coming home 🏴🏆🏴🏆🏴🏆🏆
England has had this insanely easy Tournament Routes now since 2018 and still didn't capitalize once on a Big Trophy because of the one good Team they played in the end that got managed really well. Wild.
Funny thing is that England has top tier team if you just look players they got but they are so poorly managed and use very weird tactics. Its like Southgate tries his best that their tournament ends shortly even when they have the easiest route to the finals.
England were very lucky to go through to be fair, they were good for 20 mins of that game, just so happened to be the last 5 mins of main game and 15 mins of extra time. And that just so happened to win them the game.
Yeah? And? If that's what it takes, bring it on, play like shit & win. Keep on whinging & blarting about the manager, he ain't going anywhere till England win this tournament or get knocked out of it. Either way, he'll go. Then let's pick someone else as manager... 🤔🤔🤔
I live in France and the negativity aspect of English media and reaction is much more than in France where they're generally supportive, at least from what I've seen. When they're criticising it feels more like "how can we find a way?!". What I've seen of their reporting on England this tournament has been initially a lot of hype about the "favourites" etc, and then has been a lot of asking about "what is the plan?", criticising Southgate and the form of the English squad... basically it's been quite fairly asking why they're not living up to expectation so far
The video was made a week ago, when they were playing utter nonsense and were getting saved by individual moments pf brilliance, and he did give Southgate his flowers at the beginning of the video.
Thanks for the level-headed video. Southgate clearly wants to defend and nick a goal here and there. It may work but it doesn't deliver passion or excitement. The sooner he goes the better
That's what I said to everyone who're yelling "southgate out": then replace him with who?? Fucking mclaren?? Dude DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT to the euros. Fabio the man himself capello gave up. And this shite manager that we have now is literally the best manager we had in a long time. That says a lot about english football.
3 words to describe Southgate: waistcoat Lucky overcritcised. Like it or not this man has taken England to more Semi Finals And Finals than the past England managers!!! This is fact, regardless of what you think if their style of play. Boring, cowardice, call if what you want but You can't not give Southgate his flowers.
As this tournament has gone on to prove, Southgate's managerial style isn't a problem. Portugal got Georgia and Slovenia back-to-back, couldn't manage a single goal outside of spot kicks. France have generally been the best side in the world for nearly a decade. One goal from open play the whole time they were in Germany. ONE. Stakes get higher, scrutiny gets more intense for mistakes, perceived 'lesser' nations continue to improve. Southgate recognises all this and yes, with some luck at crucial moments, is in another final.
Park the bus is a style used by teams who don't have the pure quality to overcome their opponents, it can work pretty well when you are fighting opposition with far better players. Many teams found success using this style were from the 2000's/2010's. (Inter Milan 2010, Chelsea 05/06, Atletico mid 2010's etc). All of these teams were 'underdogs' so as to say. Now, England has the best squad depth in the world, why the hell would anyone try and play park the bus with them? Mourinho and Simeone, were the main users of this tactic but times have evolved, there is a reason why Mourinho can't find a job in a top 5 league and why Simeone has had to change up his tactics. Parking the bus itself isn't the best strategy nowadays, you can never truly be safe vs top tier opposition. Many times, it leads to you losing games you should have won easily. It's far harder to just keep on defending assaults in modern football. Southgate was appointed in 2016, when England had just lost to Iceland and had a pretty average squad and he did a great job too. But, the England squad depth has grown exponentially now, and so have playstyles. Southgate can never hope to beat a strong team with these type of tactics
Frankly as a football fan, I just want to watch proper football. Not fvcking seniors' rugby with players passing sideways and backwards, and then stroll around on the pitch. That tempo, low intensity and sitting deep is so reminiscent of the Italian teams of the 80s. But at least when those teams spring a break, they go for it. Southgate is so concerned with keeping his defensive shape, it's basically frustrate the hell out of your opponent and hopefully one of your stars do something magical.
I want Klopp or Mourinho as England manager - otherwise i dont really care, as a liverpool fan I just hope our players dont play too much and don't get injured
I mean, we have been int he semis more times with him managing than under the last 4 managers combined. I wouldn’t sh ppl would get behind our team more. Rather than constantly putting them down
Southgate keeps on getting more international success than the vast majority of previous England managers. Some have had the likes of Gerrard, Rooney, Lampard, Scholes, Owens and co, an amazing golden generation and been sent home early. There is something Southgate is doing right and not getting the credit for. How many teams have been poor to okay and won tournaments. Look at Portugal and Italy, for example. They've played terribly and won. Even if this England team wins this tournament, Southgate will get zero credit because the players will get it all, even if other England managers have achieved nothing with some very good teams.
Youve hit the nail on the head at the end - yes Southgate has made many questionable tactical decisions but when you NEED to win games it doesnt really matter how you score, so long as you do. Yes we can all argue for years how the team should be better, but they still won. And Southgate is STILL England's second most successful manager 🤷♂️ and certainly better than I'll ever be
What are your thoughts on an entire generation of footballers (players born in the early 90s) were skipped and didn't get a chance to stamp their generation into football history bcos of the longevity of the players in the generation before them (mid-late 80s)?
England are the kind of team that will do nothing but nullify their opponents and somehow get to the final after falling in the easier half of the draw. I fear this will happen again this time, while Switzerland are a good team it's not exactly a huge concern to be facing them in the 1/4 final.
I live here, I just wish people would realise that at best the national team is slightly above average and even then no where near consistent enough to rely on. Individual players talents are great but at the end of the day this is a team sport and England have never produced a result worthy of the fervent support they get. Evidently football just isn’t our sport and continuing to embarrass ourselves isn’t going to help, though to be fair I only know one poor delusional soul that thinks we will ever win anything.
I can’t be the only one who felt our wc 22 and euro 21 teams were stronger than this one. Rashford sterling and ill even admit Grealish are poorly missed here and I like Gordon and palmer but what’s the point of bringing them if you’re barely going to play them
It also doesn’t explain why Tomori didn’t go this tournament. It makes no sense 🤷🏽 you down a center back and lb and he prefers to put his RW at LB instead of being Fikayo Tomori instead of an injured and injury prone Shaw. Moronic 🚮 and Loftus-Cheek as well. The man is a moron. 🤦
INGERLAND INGERLAND INGERLAND 🏴 🏴 🏴 ITS COMING HOME. Haaaaaaaaas anyone seen Scotland, Wales, Ireland?! Haaaaaaaaaas anyone seen Italy?! ITS COMING HOME NOT ROME 🇮🇹 💩 ENGLAND 🦁 🦁 🦁 !! ❤️ 🏴
... Mate, stop giving us a bad name. Clearly you;reanother foreign fan trying to give England fans a bad name. Or you were dropped on your head as a chile.
Holy shit dude can we start putting some responsibility on the players to play better? These are supposed to be some of the best players in the world and yet are shitting the fucking bed game after game. At some point we need to hold them accountable instead of scapegoating the coach
The former players that criticize England have a combined 0 euro championships. I find it funny that players who never won anything for their country seem to know exactly what the team needs. Still though, this England team is shambolic.
What I wonder is are England really as good as fans think? Or do they just have a lot of players from the most star studded league in the world, benefitting from working under world class managers?
In terms of just quality? I think kane, Bellingham and foden genuinely are world class, they just aren't being played to their strengths. I think their club form and individual performances prove as much.
I've noticed they sit deep, in order to expand the field and counter the low block. But it is very messy, and becomes a 50/50 challenge very often. But it stops them from being overloaded and not counters. That's why the defence looks good, because they often have the numbers. It's an alternative to the high line press. It's very weird and unorthodox
We know we have a team that Can contend. And we believe that even if we cannot win it and go all the way, we can put up a solid fight - Assuming we play our best game. And right now, we are not there. It is the managers job to make these individuals work together - and he is not doing it. Nobody in England ever TRULY expects to win a tournement, yea we shout the usual 'its coming home' but it carries as miuch weight as 'god save the king'. If you take it literally then you are missing the point. We believe we can play a solid game when we are at our best, and we could probably give some top teams a run for their money, but no. We know the chances of us winning are slim, even at our best. And we are far FAR from our best. There is a reason Englands name is throw in contention - because the potential (on paper) is always there - but southgate is incapable of making it work. think about it. the front 4 in the England squad have between them: 114 goals the Laliga player of the season A Ballon Dor contender The top bundesliga scorer The EPL 2nd and 4th top scorers The Laliga joint 3rd top scorer The EPL player of the year The EPL young talent of the year Now any half decent manager could make THAT work - Southgate is clueless.
How deep did England go before him? The same manager that has went further in tournaments than Luis Enrique and Flick that played exciting football😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
To say england is a weaker team then the Swiss team, I definitely do not agree, england have the much stronger team in pretty much every position. It's just very bad tactics and decisions behind the team that's poor. Jose would win england everything
He said weaker as a team. Everyone knows individually on paper England are probably the strongest team in the entire tournament with the talent they have. But they aren't playing like it.
Lets not forget that, in the end, football is an entertainment product as much as it is a sports competition. When the game becomes boring people will eventually stop watching which would lead to less generated revenue. We might be way past the point of this being a real danger, but still, Id like to think that football is a game for the people and should be played in a way that entertains those.
Brazilian polyglot here, I follow English, Spanish and Portuguese media. It is all the same. It’s all about turning a profit and negativity is a toxic parasite, spreads to everything and everywhere, garnering views and views = money.
If your getting paid millions, you should be able to handle pressure - in fact you should thrive on it. If not, then you're not the elite player you think you are.
Not everyone is the same, footballers are human, just like you and me. Everyone has a breaking point. Some of the pressure includes death threats to them and their families. They aren't robots.
Sorry but Italy was utter crap this tournament, even worse than England. They were a fantastic team in Euro 2020 but had such a fast downfall. England dominated them in the Euro qualifiers and Italy were at risk of not even qualifying. England have not been playing well in this tournament, but Italy has been far worse.
@bushmonster1702 honestly I get the feeling there's a lot of questions being asked at the Portuguese federation after the Georgia and Slovenia games. France will be his biggest test. He succeeds he probably doesn't get sacked. He fails well he gets sacked. Win win for Portugal tbb
England's Football Association have the dumbest management in the world to have kept Southgate as a head coach for so long. He has been extremely mediocre all along.
