Finally someone posting some good videos about the Panasonic S lineup! Love your stuff man. I have an S1 and I’ve watched a number of your videos to figure out what lens I want next. Thanks for posting this.

Great setup! I got the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 on the EF mount so I could also use it with the GH5s + speed booster. For handheld zoom I use the 100-400 LUMIX on the G9. On the S1 I use the Sigma 14-24 f2.8, LUMIX 24-105 f4, and Sigma 50mm f1.4. The zooms are usually manually focused on tripods for weddings and then I switch between the 24-105 and the 50 on the S1 for all my handheld stuff. I also use the Sigma 18-35 on the GH4 for my wide shot on a tripod at weddings. I had to go for the Sigma 14-24 f2.8 to get night sky shots because 16-35 f4 just isn’t fast enough.

Really like your videos (subscribed)...very detailed and informative for real-world applications. Your nuanced breakdown of the pros and cons is really helpful. I was on the fence with the 70-200 F2.8 versus f4 versus 3rd party; and your video, with your "down to earth" insights helped me decide on the staying native and going with the F2.8 (200mm). You truly come across in your videos as someone who is seriously into the profession and I appreciate that. Keep up the great work and videos!

I built everything off of the 24-105 F4 macro. I think if I could get one single lens it would be that, possibly the 24-70mm F2.8 if you want to spend a little more and sigma 28-70mm F2.8 if you want to save money and get 2.8. This would depend on what you were shooting, real estate could go 16mm but overall those 3 up top are more versatile.

Nice job Devon, thank you! I've acquired a lot of Leica M & R, Canon L, and a couple of L-mount sigma lenses over the decades, mainly used for photography. This 24-70mm S Pro, has to be in my top 3 best lenses I've ever used, let alone on a Lumix S2 or Leica SL. At every focal length, it yields an end-result that is equivalent to it's prime equivalent with the benefit of modern colors and optics. The one and only one grip about it, is the heft that in certain situations makes me leave it the bag or at home. It is Adorably even better than the recent Leica 24-70mm IMO too having tested one in the Leica store. Would love to see your thoughts and compare the two. Cheers!

Great overview! Everything you've outlined in the last couple videos makes a strong case for these Panasonic pro zooms. Studio I collaborate with locally here in Houston recently got an S1H, and they're about to get a second one. Been wondering if the native lenses is worth it. Definitely worth renting to see how well it fits in the workflow.

Hi ! Nice and dynamic video. Thanks I would leave the 24-70 as like you say it’s not specialised in any thing... my trinity would be the 16-35 f/4, the S Pro 50 f1.4 and a tele prime lense like 105 ... I’ve had several 24-70 2.8 in the past on my Nikon system but never loved shooting with it as it lacks a lot of caracter. It’s a tool for photo journalism but not my favorite as I prefer prime lenses. On my Nikon D3S my trinity is 28 1.4 / 58 1.4 / 85 1.4 - no more zooms in my arsenal. And for now on my S1R I keep my 50 1.4 which is sometimes very big that’s why I love mounting M lenses on it.

Great video! Well done! Just got the S1R + 24-105 at a very good price. Decided to order the Sigma 14-24 DG DN and should be receiving it soon. Was considering the 16-35 but felt the F2.8 and especially the 14mm was more useful for me and risking a slightly slower AF won't matter much with ultra wide angle. It is a bit worrying though what I hear about Sigma lenses focusing slower than the Lumix lenses. This was one of the reasons there was an "alliance" from the start. We shouldn't have to deal much with focusing issues between the three brand and such. Sigma lenses should be DFD calibrated on the Lumix and Leica bodies for example and the focusing motors should be able to run at 480fps. Like I said, a bit worrying but the S1R and Lumix ergonomics, menus, usability are just top notch and no other system I have tried is on par! I switched from the m43 G9 and RIGHT AWAY I knew where everything was, that alone is worth a whole lot and shows how much Panasonic really knows about cameras and usability. Unlike some other brands that change buttons and knobs with each new model, not to mention grip design. Oh another thing, you mentioned the Lumix 24-70 was quite pricey for a 24-70, and it "was" but I think that the field has leveled there with the release from the other brands and their new mirrorless designs costing as much and sometimes more. It's just the new normal and shouldn't be compared to DSLR designs I believe. It's like the Lumix 50mm F1.4. Everybody were shocked at the price and weight and now with CaNikon releasing similar lenses at similar prices and sizes, it's all "normal". Thanks again for a good review/overview of the lenses. Depending on price, I believe with longer focal lengths and better faster AF it may very well be worth paying the extra, though the 24-70 is twice the price of the Sigma 24-70.

Thanks for all your kind words. Keep me updated with your findings of the 14-24. I thought about going for that as well and it wasn’t the auto focus that swayed me as much as there not being a easy way to use my variable ND filters. If I didn’t have to do video so much I wouldn’t have minded... I still want that lens though ... I want one of everything .
@wilbuzllf5057
@wilbuzllf5057 3 года назад
We all want one of everything ;-) The lens is fantastic, that's my first impression. I had a m43 setup with pretty much the best Pro glass from Olympus and Panasonic ranging from 24 to 600mm in FF terms. In pure sharpness, so far, the Sigma 14-24 DG DN is up there with the very best of them, if not better. I'd say it easily goes head to head with the Panasonic Leica 42,5mm F1.2 stopped down. Having said that, it's like you say, it's a photographers lens since it's near impossible to use variable ND filters on it. I ordered the rear filter kit and will see how that works today but it's for photo only, or very controlled video I suppose. I can't imagine running and gunning with a variable ND at 150mm size :-O Keep up the good work :-)

Purchased the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 for Panasonic-S1. After not much time and use, I decided to return it...like the other Sigma lenses I've purchased, I agree with you that it is noisy...I can actually hear and feel the auto focus mechanism...big drag! So just sent it back today and just ordered the Lumix-S pro 24-70mm. Was trying to save some money, but not worth it in the long run...so distracting to hear and feel the AF mechanism. I had also ordered the Sigma 14-24mm, and found it to have the same noisy issue. The other issue I had with the 2 Sigma lenses is in Manual Focus...in the viewfinder and LCD, the distance gauge was totally jumpy...not smooth like Lumix-S lenses. Very disappointed in Sigma...returned both!

Great review. I'm seriously considering the S1H and 24-70 lens strictly for shooting video. My current cameras are the EVA1 and GH5, and I'm inclined to continue with Panasonic as I enjoy grading Vlog. Q: Do you know if the Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 with a follow focus system? I'm wondering how the linear focus feature works, as it appears that the focus ring continues to turn past what would normally be hard stops. I use the Tilta Nucleus Nano, which has an auto-calibration mode that turns the focus ring to both extremes of the focus, and maps that to the control wheel. As the focus ring on the 24-70 lens keeps turning past the ends, I could manually set the follow focus system, but I'm just not sure if it would be repeatable.

A poor selection of focal lengths. The 16-35 almost doubles half of the reach of 24-70. Instead of doubling the 35/28/24 part of the 24-70 why not make a 14-24? And instead of doubling the 24mm part why not make a 28-105/2.8 and start the tele zoom from 120? 120-300/2.8 anyone? Sigma does think so!

It Wasn’t a recommendation as much as a review of the Lumix Trinity in its current state. You could get more flexibility with a 14-28 2.8 but and over all it’s a good choice if your willing to lose the better autofocus and have color amongst glass starting to vary. It’s a choice and work flow, “the trinity” is always talked about as these which is what I’m reviewing.

Too expensive. I prefer to buy Canon or Sony, even Olympus.
