Yeah like everybody said it is a real story and the movie , National Lampoon's Van Wilder, is based on it. It's even funnier becasue multiple of his classmates have corroborated his exact story with pictures and the details. Like he was wearing a fannypack, the guys were both named Igor and Igor, they did get robbed (including him), the teacher and the cops. Literally all got confirmed by other people that were on that trip.

I showed this comedy stand up to a friend from Moscow. As soon as Bert said "I'm the Machine!" he immediately hit the pause button and went "This is the Machine???" The only thing I could respond with was "You know about him???"

The movie Van Wilder is based off his life. He has pictures on instagram with the mafia members. A youtube channel named frankenstein's lab got to meet him and they talked about it on bert's podcast.

My dad was in Russia in 1996 he says the mob DID run everything. He saw a dead banditi on a train platform in Moscow so yea, few people understand how much danger Bert was in during this story. He's lucky he didn't die, for real

true story and they have shown pictures of him with some of his mafia friends (including the first igor he met, i believe). some classmates have also said its true. He really ran a billiards/pool hall scam and they really stole a boat. I think they stole the boat because the school trip paid for a boat rental through the mafia who just pocketed the money and then went to steal a boat for free hahaha

It is based on a true story but definitely over embellished. If you go all the way back to his first appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, like the real early days with a 280p camera before he had the big set like one of the first 20 podcasts I think. Bert tells the story for the first time and its no way near as refined as this stand up act but it cracks Joe up and he tells him he should turn it into a stand up bit. So he obviously went home and wrote it down in a way that would be as funny as possible.
