The Magpul PRS GEN3 AR15 / M16 Stock 

To anyone that hates the new gen 3 PRS because its too long, theres an easy fix. If your using it on a carbine buffer tube, you can simply remove the "neck" section and install as usual making it 3/4" shorter. I used mine like that for a while but eventually i missed the refined, smooth, finished look so i cut 3/4" from the center of the "neck" section, between the qd sling mount and the end which slips under the castle nut. I also had to cut about 1/8" from the "tabs" that protrude from the front of the main stock body and slide into the "neck" section. Once done my PRS is much more comfortable and wieldable from awkward positions or for maneuvering or firing in a CQB situation. Btw the charging handle will contact the cheek riser if its extended at all necessitating the need for a minor 3/16" deep relief cut. All cuts are easy to do with a cordless reciprocating saw, oscillating saw, band saw or even hacksaw. Clean the edges with a file and sandpaper. For those that want the stock even shorter you can simply remove the rubber buttpad, shortening it another 1", and shoulder against the aluminum buttpad carrier. Its not uncomfortable but you could glue a thin buttpad to the carrier for comfort and traction. I plan to replace my carrier with a custom made piece with its own integral rubber buttpad giving me a 2" shorter overall PRS for CQB and storage yet maintain the full 1.5" extendability for DMR or benchrest use. Now if only there was an easy fix for the angled stock toe. Magpul really screwed the pooch with that change!

Just got one yesterday as a birthday gift. I have always wanted one but seemed there was always something that prevented me from getting one. I was taken aback when I opened the box and saw that it would also fit on a carbine buffer tube, but I had been running an A2 stock on my AR for a couple years. Today put a few hundred rounds down range with my AR and hated that moment when I saw the ammo can was empty. It made a nice difference in how much time I wanted to be behind the scope on that rifle. Now its time for a mono-pod lol.

I'm suprised that a AR15 buttstock has not been designed that has a normal AR15 sliding and locking design for lenght of pull. But with an adjustable cheek rest that when fully down. Sits in a recess so that it blends seemlesly into the buttstock, and can be adjusted using a similar thumb wheel design to the magpul prs.

The mlok on the bottom is definitely a big up from the old system, very nice

I can’t see the large price when you consider the Luth-AR is half the price.

FYI guys, it doesn't fit on a laRue 7.62 AR. Takes about 3 hours to sand it out because the tube in a laRue is about a quarter inch longer. So buyer beware.

Unless youre 6'5 and have long arms the stock will be too long to even need the length of pull adjustment.

While I do like magpul and the PRS gen II, the gen 3 feels awkward and looks even more funky. Tried it on a friends rifle and we both agreed its a waste

Gen 2 > Gen 3 If Magpul left the picatinny rail and cover, it would be a different story.

Awesome, now I do not have to buy a tube, spring and buffer to convert a carbine to use this stock, great way to compete with the Luth-AR stock.

Tried installing this on an Aero Precision enhanced buffer tube kit. The carbine adaptor will not sit flush to the end plate and castle nut at all. Taking it back and just going with the str.

They need to make different thicknesses of butt pad available. Make it an accessory or something.

In step 4, it says install the Vented Mounting Screw. The screw seems too short and won’t screw in?

It is the PRS stock also compatible with Commercial AR tubes or only with Mil-Spec ones?

Zero chemistry between these two!

They made the same mistake with this as the military did when they went from the A1 yes I am old which fit most people perfectly to the A2 the when they made the LOP longer for people with short arms it is going to be entirely too long to be comfortable which negatively affects your shooting position and they do not offer the thin recoil pad that the gen 2 had which fit me perfectly without extending it at all it is a AR it doesn’t have enough recoil to justify a super thick recoil pad

Apparently different guns have different width slots. Which is which when I go to order?

But will it fit on a Daniel Defense MK12 5.56?

Could this buttstock work for rifles that aren't based off of the AR platform?

I just Got one today . I tried to put it on my savage stealth it will not go on its the tube that came with the stealth.I put the first part of the stock on the tube it is very snug and then I slide the stock part on and it’s having trouble. I took the first screw and plug out and took the sling holder off as directed along with loosing the second screw and still won’t fit . I’m not going to try and force it any longer. What is keeping it from installing.

Would this fit the GALIL ACE GEN2 which has the AR15 buffer tube? even the MAGPUL CTR that came with the rifle and .75" riser is not high enough.

Show us something useful like the length of adjustment of the cheek rest and butt plate. If you are only moving each 1/4" you prolly cant justify the price of this one......just sayin

and they never show how to use all the options like how high the cheek rest goes. waste of my time watching.

The minimum length of pull on this thing is WAY too long compared to the last generation. I'd never buy one... And oh yeah, this is NOT "new," it's been out for well over a year...

It would be perfect if it was....LIGHTWEIGHT!!!! read that? LIGHTWEIGHT..got one today and it is going back because it reads 1 pound 11.5/8 oz on the scale, making the rifle that it would go on extremely heavy passing the 10 pounds, so will look for the competition; why so heavy just why?? and do not tell me to compensate recoil, that is a lot of crap, for that we have adjustable gas blocks, buffer systems and muzzle devices...besides being insanely heavy at almost 2 pounds it is also expensive!

To bad my cheek won't budge and I own the gun for 1 week
