+Nick Valentine because 1 the limitations of consoles couldn't alow a big strip ,2 obsidian was given 2 years to make this game , they were very ambitious and they wanted to make much more but due to time limitations , many cuts and compromises were made
OMFG you people. Guess what, if it wasn't the consoles holding us back they would still have to hold the game back since many of my pc brethren game on absolute potatoes. Hell many game on systems worse than a ps5. So people like me with a 4090 would still be held back by something. So stop with this console hate bs. Hell they can do a lot more with a 3060 level card in an xbox than a pc@@Methodsaimon
Little did they know, years later this would still hold up as a cult classic masterpiece. An open-world RPG with amazing writing, that few studios have topped. On top of having such a short development time. Mad respect for Obsidian.
The Obsidian/Troika/Black Isle devs seem to be amazing at making cult classics. Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky were joking in one of their interviews that most of their games sell horribly on release but overtime developed a cult following (Fallout 1/2, Arcanum, Vampire Bloodlines etc). They had to change a number of dev studios over time, because most went bankrupt due to their amazing ability to make cult classics lol
God the voice actors made this game legendary. Mr House's voice actor particularly nails it and it comes off much better than the other characters because he doesn't have a low-rez digital face mouthing it. The voice coming from a large screen/robot makes the lines hit that much harder
@@JKgyaru6969 yeah it's sad, Renee, Michael Dorn, the guy who did Caesar, the guy who did Victor all were in Star Trek at one time or another, lot's of Star Trek in NV
"Ron Pearlman has been the voice of Fallout for so long, it's like of course he's going to be the narrator" *Fallout 4 never had him as a narrator *Bethesda fucked up
The villain of New Vegas isn't the Legion, or the Strip, or the NCR, or any one group or person. The villain of New Vegas is the 84 score on Metacritic.
The games biggest downfall was the strip. They had to cut it because of file size but so much missed potential. No abandoned casinos, not enough casinos it just feels small. But it was still a great area.
Crackpot Cookiejar I hate when people say console limitations it's like bruh even a high end PC couldn't run what they had planned. Obsidian had no idea that the Gamebryo engine was shit. I can speak from personal experience that the GECK is way too hard to do what they had planned.
ever think Bethesda is crazy jealous about these guys Edit: this is super late but I don't mean that they are jealous of how much money obsidian makes like some of you have suggested. I mean they're jealous of how much better at making games Obsidian is. Than again Bethesda doesn't always seem like they care about making good RPGs. Especially nowadays.
Confirmed in the Nuka World DLC "Although the Nuka-Cola Corporation would never admit it, Nuka-Cola Wild was released to directly compete with Sunset Sarsaparilla after attempts to acquire that company were met with failure." Bethany's salty as hell and they don't even care enough to hide it anymore.
they make every opportunity to kill off or put Californians in a bad light, more or less (i.e. Kellog, Brotherhood, Enclave, etc.) or at least downplay their achievements (i.e. Harold, Myron)
Nope. The Bethesda Fallouts are better rated and sold like fucking crazy. Also, New Vegas won no game of the year awards. 3 & 4 won *buckets* of em. So what do they have to be jealous of, salty youtube comments and the admiration of the No Mutants Allowed crowd? Can't spend that.
Sonny Moore consoles made them break it up into separate areas. it was originally going to be one large strip. if consoles hadn't existed they wouldn't have had to spend all their time making it the one way. when you only have a short period to work on something you cant make multiple versions, you can thank consoles for the ,memory limitations on the game engine that prevent good mods for it
+Pedro Montoto García To its defense tho it still provides a huge world with tons of places and locations to explore. The story i would agree with you but i feel like the side quests in Fallout 4 overshadows the main quest line. Curie's questline is actually interesting.
Fui Gebhardt True, I also have a feeling they don't want Obsidian to work on another Fallout because they would put Beth to shame if they had enough time to work on it.
TheLine F3 was my first big open world rpg so it was so insane to me. But yeah new Vegas is far better. I had no idea what the game was about for the most part and didn't even know you can go everywhere and coming out of that fault for the first time was awesome. I only wish F1 and F2 were remade so I can get into them. I own them but I just can't play outdated games.
Obi Alfred Obsidian will probably never make another Fallout game. Why would Bethesda hand the franchise off again when they just made millions and millions off their formula? They will do it again no doubt, sadly enough.
"My idea is to explore more of the world and more of the ethics of a post-nuclear world, not to make a better plasma gun." -Tim Cain "Violence is funny! Let's all just own up to it! Violence done well is fucking hilarious! It's like Itchy and Scratchy or Jackass -now that's funny!" -Todd Howard
Just read an interview with josh just published (4/23/24) There was some about new vegas. About how he thinks the game became so loved because the faction stuff you can twist and turn and make your own way. Plus, you dont have to kill anyone, but you can kill EVERYONE if you want. And that's exactly it. The choice and letting us just live in the game, and it reacts as it should. So good. So so good.
This was peak fallout for many, including myself. New Vegas also has the best set of DLCs of any fallout game, maybe even any game. The writing was just incredible.
+natrag spar youre absolutely right. lets not even get started on how godawful fallout 4 was. bethesda shouldnt be let anywhere near fallout after how obscenely badly they botched 4. i wish fallout 4 wouldve been made by obsidian, and they wouldve set it in san antonio, texas. imagine how awesome thatd have been. they couldve used the alamo, the river walk... and couldve even used galveston.
It's not a competition. Both games can exist. If you notice in the documentary the devs are constantly saying how much they love fallout 3. Let's not forget big part of the reason they could make new vegas in a year was due to bethesda's great development tools, even if you prefer new vegas' story, much of the underlying gameplay was made by bethesda.
Because they own the IP, and at this point enough people have pestered them about it that you're basically guaranteeing no third party ever touches the franchise ever again. Also, most of the team behind New Vegas doesn't work at Obsidian anymore.
Am I the only one that thought the Strip was a bit underwhelming? Don't get me wrong I love New Vegas, and the Strip was cool to see at first. But after all that hard work, all that buildup, you got three blocks of a few buildings with different coats of paint and all the same things to do. It wasn't exactly DC. There wasn't even much to speak of in terms of missions, it was really just there if you wanted to play a game of Blackjack.
All that shit they could add on as DLC and you're telling me they couldn't give us a few more blocks upon release, even separated off like every other part of the city?
1 month later, but I agree, kind of a shame the technical limitations of consoles had to implement loading screens and such little NPCs in one cell. But mods can fix this, so PC is awesome
Don't worry, if you're on pc this mod is great and opens up the entire strip with added population and no frame drop. www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35100/?
He actually likes fallout 3 gameplay wise it’s the story he hated they just wanted to make it back into more of a roleplay game don’t get me wrong I love nv but fallout 3 is also great it has its problems but it holds its own I think people overthink the smirk dude gave the game its props he just thought he could do better and he did but he never said he hates fallout 3 and has given it props before
It's a shame that Bethesda were really harsh on obsidian. They have them a certain time and budget, not to mention the pressure they got. The game was gonna be bigger and have more quest, NPC's and a less empty map, but Bethesda couldn't allow that due to time. Also Bethesda told obsidian that if the game got a higher rating then 75 they would pain a bonus. But sadly the game got....74 because of glitches (that were patched later on). Obsidian did a great job, shame that Bethesda had to fuck with them.
The irony is, is that New Vegas was so much more better than 3. It's a massive shame Obsidian didn't make Fallout 4. Imagine these guys with 5+ years of development?
They didn't, "fuck with them," they couldn't predict that they would make a game that would make most of the fandom ignore the superior Fallout 2. They where letting a diffrent company make a game for the franchise and wanted a good image for it. Not to mention the probably wanted them to finish it quickly so they could start on a new game. These days people disregarde Bethesda as a terrible company. But bringing mods to consoles? Making skyrim? Those are amazing things that, of course, no other company has done.
I really don't understand how putting fallout and amazing in the same sentence makes, "no sense." My problem is how people keep on attacking bethesda. In your opinion Skyrim may be bad but to others it's a good game, same for FO4. Although I do agree that yes, they didn't exactly add much RPG. Bethesda is still well known for making hugely successful games that are amazing in my opinion.
steve smithson Where the hell is this whole "Bethesda refuses to acknowledge New Vegas" thing coming from? I see it everywhere with absolutely no explanation or context.
@@ShadowtheHedgehog105 the evidence is in how a lot of the improvements made in New Vegas to make the newer fallout games be true RPGs is ignored by Bethesda's. NV brought back skill checks in dialogue and also brought back player choice and introduced a well done reputation system. I don't know about you but I don't see to much of those things in Fallout 4 do you?
It's honestly like Bethesda took notes on what made F3 & New Vegas so good and so fun, and then went "well, that's already been done so let's not do that"
ikr Bethesda takes way to much fuckin credit for being half ass obsidian made them they made Skyrim elder scrolls 5 and the best of fallout and tbh Bethesda ain't shit without them we saw this when fallout 4 came out basically they are just living off of obsidian's fame and hard work.
+Kc Mcclary if you love obsidian than that's fine cauz i love them too but to say shit about bethesda that didn't happen then it's not okay yes obsidian made new vegas that was great , if you think it's the best game than it's your opinion and i respect it even though i don't agree . but obsidian never touched anything about skyrim that was in my opinion better than new vegas , so i don't understand how are they living off obsidian's work
I like it how people suffer in new vegas / 3 : there are kids chasing mutated rats to get food for example, you don´t see that in fallout 4. People in the boston area live too easy and it makes me forget the nuclear devastation.
I swear people say anything about Fallout 4, there's alot of settlements out there with people suffering from raider and super mutants attacks, the whole Minuteman faction is dedicated to stop people's suffering so idk how you say that's not seen in Fallout 4 when one of the biggest most pushed factions in Fallout 4 deals with suffering people.
YungHandz706 I didn´t care to do minuteman quests so I didn´t know the their story. In other fallouts suffering is a part of the surroundings, the little things not whole questline.
P4nzerk93 Certain parts were hit harder with the bombs and some weren't hit as hard, alot of people joke about Preston Garvey constantly bringing up people who need help so idk how you haven't heard or seen about those minutemen quests. Suffering is part of Fallout 4 and there's many settlements scattered around who barely can protect themselves or their food from raiders and super mutants plus synth attacks terrorize the wastelands. The kids chasing mutated rats only happened in 1 place which was Freeside, it wasn't a frequent thing in Fallout.
UnknownPenguin Yeah, i can see what you mean. But they focused way too much on radiant quests in fallout 4. One of the few factions, the minutemen, were basically only just radiant quests. And the other factions were so intertwined with the main quest that you could hardly do any quests before getting close to the ending.
UnknownPenguin we were, but i didn't understand which part of fallout 4 was no different than fallout nv. Because in the comment you responded to i didn't mention NV. me: "fallout 4 was too much about radiant quests" you: "fallout 4 was the same way." huh?
My favorite game ever. No other game comes close in terms of combining the best of open ended quests, huge freeroam map, good effects, varied voices, great plot, the ability to mold any character you want, a real "good guy/bad guy" system where what decision you make actually makes a difference, so much more. Along with the awesome hardcore system, in which you actually have to eat, drink, sleep, and makes the realism better which only makes the game more fun.
aylamaiia Is Fallout 3 better than New Vegas to you? The effects, yes, and perhaps a lot of the environments were better put together, but on the whole I can't honestly see how 3 is better than NV, given the items it contains that I mentioned there.
I've played both Fallout 3 and NV extensively, I gotta say the thing I like more about NV is everything about the combat and unique amount of guns, from simple things like just being able to aim down iron sights, to all the unique different revolvers and mods
i wonder if they knew while developing, that this game would go down in history as one of the best, and that over a decade after it released it would still have a cult following.
These guys seem passionate about Fallout and what people like about it and giving alot to the player. It feels very sad watching this after playing Fallout 4. Next to them it seems Bethesda are like '' Hey I know lets remove everything people love about Fallout, turn it into minecraft and make sure there is next to zero RPG elements. People love that all that shit it just works ! ''
@@chrisfaille4774 Yes, but Obsidian is basically a successor of Black Isle and has many of the original devs that worked on Fallout 1 and 2. So technically they created the franchise before Bethesda had anything to do with it. It was only due to their publisher's (Interplay's) greed and eventual demise that they lost the Fallout IP, which is when Bethesda bought it. And even though I still like Bethesda's Fallout games for their own reasons, it would be a dream come true for me if Obsidian got to work on more Fallout games in the future. imo Bethesda should sign a deal with Obsidian, and let them work on Fallout "side games" in-between the numbered entries by Bethesda, just like they did with NV after Fallout 3. Cause we all know what happens when Bethesda tries to make a Fallout side game themselves... **cough*76*cough**
It makes him look like a seedy, old businessman. Which isn't necessarily wrong but it seems overtly sordid. The one in the game is perfect - cold, calculating, confident.
Fallout should go back to it's roots man. These guys did as much they could and is what bethesta should do. I played the hell out of the original FO1 and 2 back in the day and i saw almost nothing from the original games in FO3 but in FONV it was plenty they even used music from 1 and/or 2 in NV and i was thrilled to hear it while i played. Plus they brought back the narrator how awesome is that?!
After Fallout 4 Obsidian deserves to make another Fallout game while Bethesda makes the next Elder Scrolls. And in my humble opinion Bethesda are kinda fucking jerks for not giving Obsidian the bonus the deserved for missing a overall metacritic score by a single point. Look it up. Obsidian nailed it with New Vegas.
