Passing the Baton: A look behind the scenes of the film where the nine old men pass the mantle of animation onto the next generation, and it's too short!
The Fox and the Hound is, in my book, THE greatest Disney film ever made, not just of the Disney Animation Studios but Disney in general and it ignited my affinity for foxes. It so deserves to be re-released to theaters, in fact, Disney should do theatrical re-releases of all their animated films, not just the princess ones.
I cried watching this the night before my graduation. I remembered all my friends when Best of friends played. It proves how eventhough people take different paths, they're still gonna be remembered by their memories
This is one of my favorite disney animated movies. It kinda reminds me of my realtionship with my best friends. It really teaches us all that friendship can last forever.
CGI is art (frozen, tangled, etc). It still takes a team to design, color, and sketch everything out. Hand drawn will always be on top, but don't disregard other styles just because you lack common sense.
So surreal that the young animators starting out then- John Musker, Ron Clements, Glen Keane, Tim Burton, Brad Bird, John Lasseter, Henry Selick, Randy Cartwright, etc., are now considered the "new" old guard.
0:10 "Disney's 24th animated feature." Fun fact: At the time of its release it was actually the 25th animated feature. There was even a whole short before the film celebrating that fact. But the new managers at Disney re-numbered all the animated features and it became the 24th.
Definitely one of the most underrated Disney movies. I was a little too young to really appreciate it when I was a kid. But now, it's one of my favorites.
I remember this movie. My favorite character in the movie is Big Mama the owl. You can see Tod along with herself and Widow Tweed on limited gold edition.
A more in-depth special about the making of The Fox and the Hound is long overdue. There needs to be interviews with Kurt Russell and director Richard Rich, as well as discussion on how Don Bluth and Gary Goldman famously quit the movie during this so-called "transition period" because they thought Disney had become a sellout studio. In spite of all of that, however, this film turned out pretty great.
I know this is qutie a while ago, but it's still a bit sad to hear about Frank and Ollie finally leaving the Disney studio after been working their sence "Snow White" and passing on their knowlege and advise for Walt Disney himself and more to the new genarations of animators
I used to watch it all the time when I was little, and Chief is my absolute favorite character. I LOVE this movie, and no matter how many times I watch I'll never get tired of it. I was very glad they didn't kill Chief off like in the book, but now I think it would have made the film a lot stronger if he had died. But that aside; this film is my most treasured film of all the films I watched as a child! I wish that this video was a lot longer, though like the one with Bambi.
Yes, it would be great if Tim Burton were interviewed, as well as the other legends who worked on the movie: John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Henry Selick, Don Bluth, Gary Goldman and director Rick Rich. The reason why none of them want to do interviews about this subject is because the production of The Fox and the Hound was famously troubled for everyone involved.
If you'd like to see footage of a young Tim Burton working on The Fox and the Hound back in 1980, look up "The History of the Fox and the Hound" on RU-vid.
the story is so sad,, and its so true, how people grow apart, and yes sometimes forced apart because of society, and i have seen it first hand , and , kids, just dont know, its reality.
This is the only Disney movie that makes me cry since the beginning to the ending , above all the song “ best of friends “ cause reminds my only and best friend who lives far away with no contact with him since 8 or 9 years ago and still I’m waiting his answer ( he is invalid ) :’(
I too wonder how the film would have been if they had decided to kill off Chief instead. That would actually make Copper's motive for vengeance more extreme. Although the reason behind the change feels rather strange; back then they were against killing a character in a Disney film (especially after BAMBI). And yet rather ironically, in this film we not only get Tod's mother, but a monstrous bear (at the finale) are both killed at the start and end, respectively. Go figure.
For a more in-depth examination of how The Fox and the Hound was made, type "The History of the Fox and the Hound" into RU-vid. It goes into detail about all aspects of the production, including the filmmakers' debates over whether or not to kill off Chief.
I’d still like to see a theatrical version of the original book, but I dunno I’d still want to see it be a bit more lighter than the pit of darkness Mannix wrote
John Musker & Ron Clements are my favourite movie directors! They have done some of the best movies I ever seeing, like Aladdin, Hercules, Little Mermaid or Treasure Planet!
I remember some of these people. This person worked on The magic carpet in Aladdin. Another gentleman worked on The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast and Pocohontas.
I really wish that they would make a Fox and the Hound 3, based on Vixey. Since Vixey is a late major character with a shrouded history and a snip-it of information of her background, another movie spanning her as a cub (about Tods age in the beginning of the movie) all the way to the moment she and Tod really became attached, a prequel based solely for her would be excellent. If you think this is a good thing to go for, copy and paste this onto other videos regarding The Fox and the Hound
I really love this movie and I think its a real pity that Disney doesn't give it more credit or merchandise. I would really love to see an real behind the scenes documentary about it or some more merchandise.
Yeah. This movie began the 80's for me... as they SHOULD have been... of course, seeing it in theatre on first release, it was clear there were MAJOR problems, you could sense the vanishing of Frank & Ollie (whose book, Disney Animation, the Illusion of Life, had just come out...) overall, though, it was just the most effortless bit of modern-day Americana. The 500-lb. elephant in the room was Don Bluth and the fact that his mega-talented crew ALSO exited the studio at this point... something this mini-doc says nothing about. Ultimately... like the 80's themselves... it was a series of good ideas, mostly killed by politics. What a breath of fresh air, though, as a young teen, viewing it & thinking how much BETTER the decade would get in the years to come... how we'd iron out the kinks & it'd all be OK... IF ONLY! (brace yourselves for some turbulence, we're making an emergency landing in The Black Cauldron, 1985!)
I once tried to interview Don Bluth and Gary Goldman about the making of this movie. They replied, "We've decided not to chime in on The Fox and the Hound." They're well-aware of all the enemies they made at the studio when they quit the production.
If you're still interested in a more in-depth examination of how The Fox and the Hound was made, type "The History of the Fox and the Hound" into RU-vid. It goes into detail about all aspects of the production -- including Don Bluth's resignation.
I love the fox and the hound because I watched it like 6 times and I gosh how much I loved it and I have the VHS version of it but this one thing I do not like was when they the sequel of it. That was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen but it's never better than the first one.
This film broke through the stigma of racism in all kids who watched it pre 90's. Today racism is coming back with a vengeance because there's no strong lesson to connect the kids to reality. Sure you have your leftist mindset that militantly tells people not to be racist OR ELSE. The days of actually seeing no color at all in a natural light as Disney showed in this film are nearly non-existent. Now you hear someone say "I have friends" nobody believes you. Back then, "I have friends" meant something.
plz iam Begging you Disney plz make a rerelase 🙏😭 the Second one is not the same and not good even. like the original Fox and hound was he even successful
