A very informative and interesting complete documentary (1-3). I am not a Rolling Stone fan but a Beatle fan. Lately, as I was scrolling on youtube, it interested me to listen to songs & watch concerts of the Rolling Stones. Found them great! I suddenly had a great crush on Keith Richards whom I see as good looking, sexy & cool especially during his younger years! Too bad Charlie Watts died. More on Keith Richards pls.

Steve, gotta tell you mate, you have definitely encapsulated the period you did this fantastic piece of work on. Also little before and after. Having been a musician over 52 yrs, I was a student of every person mentioned all my life. It seems you’ve been complimented a great deal, so here’s one more. Anyone who doesn’t burn this,in the event that we lose it on Utube ,well is simply a fool. Back-breaking work, mate, Thank you. Peace, Rocky

Hi Rocky, hearing the comments does help me want to move ahead with doing more. It makes it worthwhile if I know folks get it and appreciate the work......it was so effin time consuming. As you know, playing to a crowd of 4 or 100 is a big difference. I am glad you are a Stones head and got much out of it. I do have to save it myself, as I do not have back up. Thank you for your compliments and commenting.....hopefully you will check out the other docs etc I have. I will do my guitar previews, as I like to geek out with others on that, it is more about the interaction with new friends that makes it worth it. cheers steve

What a great documentary. I watched all three episodes. I’ve always considered beggars banquet and let it bleed as being the stones’ rubber soul and revolver. Get your Yaya‘s out is a great live document of this tour - love it also. Wish they made a double album of that. My mom, dad, sister and I were at the Altamont concert… My sister had just turned four, I would turn six in a few days… We got there late, no music playing, finally the stones came on- but the music kept starting and stopping. We were too far away up the hill, we couldn’t tell what was causing this. My sister and I watched gimme shelter years later, we finally understood why. What a bummer end to the 60s, and the stones American tour… still love those albums though

Damn....the family at Altamont...whoa! so cool to have your parents bring you....a bit risky, but that is an after thought now, then again the issues were more at the stage. hopefully you got pics. yea, the end of it still was a connection into another era of greatness!! That's all I can say is this three part Let It Bleed documentary was the best that I have ever seen. The never seen clips, the info, the background music and even the sibilance in your voice were all top notch. I think I mentioned to you before that the Mick Taylor period was the absolute best in my humble opinion. He was the guy who helped to take the band to a whole new level of live performances. Man you even knew what questions they were asked at the press conference. Rona Barrett? I have not heard that name in years. Man I always liked Bill Graham. But after hearing this story my opinion of him has waned a bit. On a side note. I met him in person before Live Aid in 1985. Actually it was just a handshake and three or four words. Absolutely incredible job here Steve. You really did your homework and some. I couldn't think of a better person to write the ultimate Stones novel. Thanks for sharing all three parts~ Rob/Boston

Thank you AS ALWAYS my friend! I needed to get this out there, after seeing so many 10-15 min reviews on their albums, I really wanted to have folks see it done from this perspective and correct. Yeah, I rewatched and listened to many interviews and details again to get this done correctly. I was shocked about Bill G also, and Sam would not have said this if it was not true....plus Charlie. There are some great books.....so no novel from me. Bill W has all the details and archives and wished he would share even more then he does. He has another new documentary out now QUIET ONE. It gets me sad as they get up there in age, and I preach that ARTISTS/BANDS should get praise before they pass on and not just after. Cheers steve

My favorite Stones album! Saw them at MSG November, 1969 then bought "Let It Bleed" in December. Needless to say the concert and the Stones made a big impression on me and I'm still playing guitar because of Keith and Mick Taylor. Thank you for this documentary, it's truly a labor of love.

I just wished we had internet back in the 70's to learn the guitar licks better. In the 80's in New Jersey, I became friends with the a STONES cover band guitarist. He taught me the Open tunings, and that opened up my world. thanks for sharing, and love to share Stones with the "family"

Let It Bleed as you stated was a Masterpiece. A Rock/Blues opera in all it’s glory. I was 13/14 at its release my brother brought it home from UCONN one day. He put on Midnight Rambler over and over and over. I got it from the first break playing loudly thru my new Zenith “Circle Of Sound” stereo changer of the day. We both had been music lovers (deep divers of all genres) for years. I like how you have taken various information from some of the sites like Nico’s and others and put it together in a concise well delivered story. Kudos. You made this so much more digestible than going and reading the info at said sites. Dig your delivery you could have been early 70’s WPLR. Late nite or otherwise. Perfect flow!!!!👏🏻 I hear the mention of Bill Germans book along with Keith’s. The audiobook versions were great. They use voices and deliveries that just add so much to the story. Looking forward to many more deep dives by you. I have read much of this stuff over the years but like most minutia it goes in one side and out the other side. You on the other hand deliver it in such a way (to me anyhow) that it sticks. Jimmy Miller plays a huge role IMO in the “Golden Era” that run of 4/5 albums he was with. His sister Judith Miller wrote a beautiful piece if your interested it’s a really great brother sister read. Titled so fittingly “Mr. Jimmy” www.tabletmag.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/sections/arts-letters/articles/jimmy-miller-rolling-stones

Thank you very much for your comments, well appreciated and glad as a Stones head you can dig this. Great memory to have with LIB....amazing what memories we get to relive. I agree to what you mention. I got tired of hearing so many bits and pieces and no one has tied it all into one comprehensive logical flow to make sense of it all. Thanks for getting that! I take great pride in gather so much info from so many places.....it is extremely challenging to organize and deliver and tap into so so many resources and listening to many interviews, reading articles and trusting websites. Bill G did some great work for us fans and needs to get more pats on the back. He is still active and one day maybe I can interview him for us fans. I did read the MR Jimmy, thanks for the turn on though! Hopefully you check out the other docs. Some Girls is being worked on now. cheers

Yes, you have proved the greatness of this album. I hope future folks (Our children's, children's... ) see this. You are truly appreciated! I wanted to tell you... I met this guy here in Oregon when he did a speaking tour for a new non- Stones book. I forgot the guy's name but he's a good friend of the Stones and was the guy who introduced The Stones on the Get Yer Ya Yas Out album. He said 2 girls told him to say "They're the Greatest Band in the World" Because he didn't know what to say for some reason, he used that. He also said, Mick was not super happy about the new slogan but Mick loved it later. If I remember his name I'll edit his name here. Thanks so much! :)

You kno… the kind of guy who sez, “I kno so and so who knows such and such and is the second cousin of who knows who” and so this makes me important and popular. Always better to be humble and keep all that on the down low anyway. I’m just wondering if you remember the part on YA- YA’s OUT where Mick showcases his ability to work the crowd when he sez, “I think my trousers are falling down. You wouldn’t want my trousers to fall down now WOULD YA !??” Hilarious! Classic! Touché and Bravo MICK !!! Ok it’s Sam Cutler so anyway it’s ok to namedrop now. We know your humble…

Of course my friend! Are you kidding me? Your videos are HUGE and full of researched authentic information. With your channel, I don’t have to do anything but brew another cup of coffee and let the good times roll. I’m gonna order up that book from their tour manager. Imagine the job of the Stones TM? It’s the equivalent of what Richard Cole did with Zeppelin. I’m sure there was hard work involved but...after that came the fun stuff. They packed their beaks with only the best blow I’m certain of it. It was the Golden Rock Era and I live for it everyday. I was born when it was in full swing: 1967 so, I was 10 years too late!

Was there at the front when Stones played Hyde Park. A high point of my life. Mick gave a eulogy to Brian, not mentioned here, from Shelley: “Peace, peace! he is not dead, he doth not sleep - He hath awakened from the dream of life - ‘Tis we, who lost in stormy visions, keep With phantoms an unprofitable strife, And in mad trance, strike with our spirit’s knife Invulnerable nothings. - We decay Like corpses in a charnel; fear and grief Convulse us and consume us day by day, And cold hopes swarm like worms within our living clay. The One remains, the many change and pass; Heaven’s light forever shines, Earth’s shadows fly; Life, like a dome of many-coloured glass, Stains the white radiance of Eternity, Until Death tramples it to fragments. - Die, If thou wouldst be with that which thou dost seek! Follow where all is fled!”

Thanks, Flip. Your passion, attention to detail, fairness, story-telling abilities are right up there with some of the best rock music documentary films including so many that had much larger budgets. The Stones should thank you for your efforts and treatment. Choosing "the best" Stones album isn't easy (and maybe who cares anyway). Let It Bleed is certainly a contender, and the fact that, all these years later it's still worthy of a three part film that got me re-listening to it for the thousandth time with even more fascination, plus buying Cutler's book for more back story, says a ton. Thanks again.

Man, you must have had to put SO much work into putting this 3 part series together. I'm sure I'm not the only one to think that you have done this great piece of work justice. I was born in 1971 and so never got to appreciate the period (tho I did see the Stones here in London much later on in the 90s and they were still great.) As a musician, I can appreciate the extra miles you have gone with your research. Do more!! Set up Patreon if you haven't already and get some return on your hard work! God bless! Oh, one last thing, did you have to get clearance for using all the music and clips etc.? It would be tragic if RU-vid took it down. Now that Alan Klein is not around you may be ok!!
@FlipSideCT
@FlipSideCT 3 года назад
Hey Mattie thanks so much for the chat and praise and understanding hard work!! Surely a passion....and what is great is I walk away with more then I knew before. As you hopefully seen, I have done others.....I truly want folks to appreciate it like yourself and always enjoyed to turn folks on to music / info. To answer your question, no I did not get clearance but YT says the Video cannot be monetized / Ad revenue paid to copyright owner....due to 5 tracks I played. I am not sure if I can work this out with that YT impact. Due to the amount of work hours and hours of my time yes I would like to get some monetary value.....I love doing it....but it would help the situation. I made a 3 part series on Max's Kansas City (famous NYC Club) from how the owner started in early 60's - until 80's. It was real cool and great RnR info.....the inner circle of Max's watched and liked it, UNITL they told the owner's wife, and she insisted I take it down or she would complain. I find out after talking with her more......she is working on a documentary on MAX's, I believe this would have been competition. I still have them privately though. oh well.

Another wonderful set of documentaries sir! Amazing to tie in the sad end of Brian Jones, the groundbreaking 1969 tour, even the seeds of the "Tax Exile" era, and oh by the way probably Keith Richards' finest hour in the Stones. Although he wouldn't have it to be a concert performing band without a co-guitarist, Keith's skills of being either the rhythm weaver or the leading man were on full display throughout the album. It goes on, indeed. To be clear, even going back to Aftermath Keith took a majority of the guitar parts but Brian Jones did still contribute. Sometimes with his guitar (Jumpin' Jack Flash, No Expectations) or often with a variety of other instruments (Paint It Black, Under My Thumb, Ruby Tuesday). To hear the stories of how far gone he was by late 1968 was so sad, yet brought on by himself. In terms of the Stones, not the first or last time they were faced with a situation that would have knocked out mere mortals. As we all know, the Stones have yet to be knocked out and they continue to give us shelter!

Well said Edward, thanks for sharing such fine comments! Agreed and thank you. Brian had many magical moments, and the reason why they became The Stones, but just drifted and became more a part timer, some due to mgt, personal style and I think, not able to write the songs. cheers

i was born in 94 to a really cool, loving, intellectual hippie-type couple. The first song I ever learned to play on guitar was Dead Flowers off of Sticky Fingers and I still play it(alongside many, many other Stones jams) with my band at local pubs. Needless to say: I love The Stones! I must say, although I enjoyed this wonderful, in depth journey(THANKS!!!!) there was not one fact or trivia-worthy bit I wasn't already aware of. However! I believe I now understand why your incredibly detailed docs, to me, are just as incredibly profound. THIS WHOLE EXPERIENCE, was therapy. My late father, who had a vast, encyclopedic knowledge of all things art. Anything and everything from Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' to the Prince of Darkness' 'Birth of the Cool'; my father, to me, was a boundless well which contained the knowledge of all things I found rad. Music was our first father/son bonding experience and would remain our key connection, even(and in some cases ESPECIALLY) after his passing in 2019. These wonderful docs brought me back to my bedroom at 12 years old, sitting on the floor with my record player. Looking up at my father, awestruck and completely enthralled as I watch and listen to him talk about 'Exile on Main St.' or 'Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out". This might sound funny to some but this, for lack of better words, hit me hard in a place I guess I needed to get hit in. Again, FANTASTIC JOB!!! and Thanks

Steve, thank you so much for your time and dedication! Bringing this album to life and back to us all is surely brilliance! If only we can get more of this. You have so far a fantastic trilogy going. I am hoping that many others spread the word so others can get a peak at this. It brought the entire timeline into such a clear focus and better understanding of the events that took place. WOW!!!! Encore please!

Ok So.. I've just watched all 3 parts. Really well done. Extraordinary. I completely understood at the end when you mentioned all the hours you thought you had put into it.. Amazing.. I relate to that. Just want to say I appreciate it as a viewer. Most and or all of these things about the Let it Bleed album I did not know. Over the years I've focused entirely on the music.. The albums and have enjoyed that aspect which is the most important to me. In regard of the lyrics I don't read them and rarely used to anyway. I prefer to decipher the lyrics for myself. I love when lyrics are unclear and just work out for myself what I think the singer is conveying and then it brings different ideas and images to mind. Remarkable detail you brought to this documentary. As Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and Charlie Watts are huge dominant figures.. I'm only ever looking at them. Ok.. I do notice Ronnie who blends very well with Keith. I have to admit.. I didn't really notice Bill Wyman.. Or Darryl Jones.. Only just now with your documentaries. I was aware of Ronnie Woods and think he is terrific(sorry that relates to the other documentary) Very interesting to find out more about Brian Jones. Actually your documentary has informed/educated me about Mick Taylor as I never realized/knew about him previously. He was very good.. Quiet on stage.. That made him kind of interesting though. I have to admit.. I love when someone is robust on stage.. Has attitude on stage. The way Taylor played that guitar.. Marvelous. Ronnie was a nice fit later though. So your 3 part video has given me a greater insight into that era of the Stones and thank you.

Sorry, I thought I replied to this, but seeing maybe I did not. Great comments and read it all. well put. As a musician and like so many others, listening to song and breaking it down is an art. Hearing all the pieces. Playing a song and focusing just on one instrument or lyrics is important. Listening with headphones to get the real feel. Many people and understandably so do not approach music this way and miss the brilliance, and the Stones bring it consistently. After watching so many other channels and docs, I was not walking away with anything, and decided a fan needed to enlighten other fans much better, and turn them on. So thank you for getting it all!! I have been listening and focusing much more to Ronnie and his contributions. With all the recent Live albums being released, you can hear how fantastic he is. His efforts on the last few studio albums also. I have even thought of doing a Faces doc he is so good. I did get to stand 6 inches from the stage and watch him backup Chuck Berry , and that was mind blowing and ever changing. thanks again for all!!!

@@FlipSideCT Thanks for replying.. Much appreciated. Oh Wow.. Chuck Berry.. Indeed. I actually saw the Stones in 2015 when they came to Sydney. I couldn't afford to go.. But my mum took my sister and myself. We were a bit more than half way up. It was completely surreal and afterwards I was like.. Ok.. "I saw the Stones".. That's an understatement. In regard of live albums.. I don't indulge in them very often these days if at all.. But from time to time I might. The first live album I ever bought was Live After Death.. 1986 On vinyl. Still have it. I've also got Get Ya Ya Ya's Out on vinyl. The first live footage I engaged with properly was GNR Live at the Ritz 1988.. I taped it from MTV on VHS. I think that was before I bought Appetite. Subsequently GNR became my favourite band back in 1991. Gnr are now my sentimental favourite. Yet in the early 90's I decided to pay great attention also to the Stones as those video clips on "rage" had left a big impression on me. I also had discovered Ozzy as well. Yeah.. I think Ronnie is interesting.. He's cool and Keith obviously interacts with Ronnie much more than he did with Taylor. I'm only able to say this now because I watched a whole bunch of live footage on here a few weeks back.. So I was able to work it all out and your documentary helped enormously. Duly noted what you have stated about Ronnie. Studio albums are everything to me. I prefer studio albums to live.. Depending. The way a note/lyric is sung. The instruments. The emotion expressed.. The ideas or feeling provoked/I then acquire from that. It is a subjective journey I go on.. Where a song will take me. Oh.. By the way. I only ever listen to music on headphones these days.. Except in the car. For years I listened on open speaker.. But a few years ago now started to use the apple ear buds. Then discovered Audio Technica and Beyerdynamic.. A different world. Now I can hear everything going on in an album/song. Thanks for your response.

@@midnightcharlieman6669 well said, thanks for this story sharing. Not sure if you caught my Goats HEad Soup doc, but I talk about Brussels Affair.....if you have not looked into that....please do for LIVE. Just do not try to go sleep after....you can't. Izzy Stratlin was more of my speed. I did not go farther then only him. Very cool your mum took you! I wish I could have taken my daughter. Tickets are just way to much.
