I love the sound of wood being hand carved.

Hand carving clogs is impressive, but the rapidity and confidence of the gentleman working here is on taking things to another level. It takes thousands of times of doing these same operations before you can reach such a handle of your craft. This is also obvious in the well honed sharpness of his stock knife and gouges. Wooden shoes ARE comfortable. We wear them every day here on our farm, in the USA. Can also walk, run, and drive a car comfortably in them. They need to be made properly though. Not by a souvenier shop or fly-by-night crafter. If the wood is wrong, they wear down too quickly. As one of the masters said, with leather the shoe takes the shape of the foot, with wood the foot takes the shape of the shoe.

I worked a lot with wood and it was in a more controlled environment. Why this guy is not wearing a chainmail butchers glove baffles me, hack hack hack with all these hand sharpen crazy tools, the confidence level is Epic.

Complex 3d shape crafted completely by eye and hand. No measuring at all - amazing.

Leuk video hoor !! I used to work in a klompen fabriek back in the early eighties and we used machinery to shape the outer and inner shapes & various sizes but someone still had to carve the rough outer shape using a bandsaw.

👏👏 wooden shoes are also used in Asturias, north of Spain, we call them "madreñas" , I have the same tools that are seen in the vid inherited from my grandparents

@VTwanderer I just made one for a shoe carver here in Wisconsin (I'm a blacksmith); he calls it a block knife. It does look rather like a modified drawknife! The design allows for lots of power and control at the same time.

Dude... I live in Canada but grew up in a old Dutch family... I haven't wore wooden shoes sense i was like 7 lol I miss them.

@VTwanderer It looks like a log peeling(or drawing) knife. It's a blade used for peeling the bark off of logs. It looks like it was adapted for shaping wood in the workshop.

Any information on the workbench being used? I have seen it on an oil painting at my grandmother's house. Finally went searching online and found this video. Is there a particular name for this style of workbench?
