A lot of years have pases and still bioshock has a deeper story then 99% of all games released today, it's fascinating and at the same time sad. You are putting a lot of work on your content and I highly appreciate it, gods work.
Andrew Ryan is a big part why I love the Bioshock franchise. It would be amazing if a tv show could be created following him throughout his early life to the creation and eventual fall of Rapture.
That’s what I’ve been saying! Forget about a bioshock movie that follows the events of the game. Instead, do a Netflix series that follows the story of Andrew Ryan - from his early life to the rise and fall of rapture. The story/events of the game have already been told, and in a way fitting for a video game. It doesn’t need to be retold in a movie. Give depth to the bioshock universe by telling a different part of the story, and in a way fitting for its respective medium.
Your channel is so nice place to relax, Im 30 years old, having verry hard year now. Your videos allows me to go somewhere else, in the night when all are asleep. Bless you Skyrionn I wish you 1 mil sooner then it is planned for you.
seriously only 420 likes (as of this writing)? Insane. Andrew Ryan is a sympathetic character; and the writers did great justice on him. It is a cautionary tale of idealogical capture - with author Ayn Rand clearly at its forefront. When one's vision becomes more important than the basic understanding of human social structure, ubiquitous suffering inevitably occurs. Whether it is Communism or Fascism; the end result is the same - a brief societal euphoria before the inevitable and crushing come-down. Run from it; Hide from it - inter- and intra-group conflict will occur just the same. The mitigation processes are what should be in discussion.
Well my deceased friend once said ( after playing this story on the PS3) “ if reincarnation is possible, then who’s to say that an similar scenario wouldn’t be repeated if no one learned the Negatives of this story, and the if the ghosts of such places wouldn’t possibly get reincarnated again and repeat the same sad events again and again throughout history yet to come “….an interesting thought to ponder indeed….
It's a funny thing. You can start out with good intentions and a decent goal, but strain, corruption, and a huge ego can turn even the best intentions into horrible and unforgivable actions.
Andrew Ryan. What an excellent character. I'd argue he was more Libertarian than Objectivist like his inspiration, Ayn Rand. Even she saw the need for police force, courts system and military defence. Without these institutions Ryan was helpless against exploiters like Frank Fontaine, and Fontaine knew it. In the end Ryan betrayed his own principles, one by one. The biggest of these being the nationalisation and continuation of Fontaine's Little Sister program. Despite what was done to them, they were still human and their lives were forfeit in the pursuit of power.
his ideals were flawed and based on a false premise. Rapture as this sort of ancap paradise couldn't have lasted, because most people show even less restraint or principle than he did, and all of what he did believe and due was built on resentment, not thought out and measured consideration
@@paratrooper508 Not really. His ideals were supposed to be a government existing only to protect individual rights with no say in the free market, but he started immediately controlling the flow of commerce and restricting the rights of others. Objectivism is not in itself a flawed model, it's exactly the abandonment of these ideals that caused Raptures downfall.
You know, for how egotistical and misguided he was? I felt bad about Ryan's death. The man had everything taken from him three seperate times. The only thing not taken from him...w as his choice on how to go out.
@@jakekaywell5972 ...only he didn't die on his own terms. His death was inevitable, and he did everything he could to stop it. In the end, he didn't choose death, he just expedited it.
@@GanymedeBoy He ordered Fontaine's creation to kill him because he saw the failure of Rapture as the failure of his philosophy (even if it really isn't objectivst in nature). That's dying on your own terms.
@@jakekaywell5972 Fontaine ordered the hit first. Ryan was going to die regardless of his "orders". He didn't choose anything but semantics. Rapture failed well before Jack got to him, and Andrew was STILL trying to stop his assassination
@@Skyrionn Right now I prefer the Half-Life lore videos, but my favorite playlist of all time is yuor Fable unused concepts, Fable is the best series, and yuor channel is the best !
It's kinda funny that he presents himself as a self made man, when in reality his wealth came from little more than luck. If the land he bought didn't happen to contain oil, nobody would've ever known who he was.
Considering he stumbled across his fortune thanks to the oil in his property.m, he was not ‘self made. Also he’d rather burn a forest to the ground than share it and built rapture so he can invite only the people he deemed elite enough and be left alone. Dunno why people keep saying he had good intentions. Guy felt the need to even control his lovers. Grade A villain but not a sympathetic one
Something I have been wondering about for while; fable journey is considered an alternative universe to fable 3 (no hero in that game) so does this mean Theresa can return
I've always noticed that Andrew Ryan is used as a criticism of Ayn Rands Philosophy. This shouldn't be the case. Andrew Ryan went against Objectivism by controlling people, annexing Fontaine Futuristic, and not letting the market take its course(he would loose to Fontaine). Had he followed Objectivism to the letter, he would have died, but the city may have lived. It would have lived under a despot who only cared for profits and gains, but it would have lived on all the same. Andrew Ryan failed the principles of Objectivism, not the other way around.

He had to take control and authority in ways he was very much against philosophically but that doesn't mean he became what he despised. Making compromises and becoming what you are against is not the same thing. It's not like he chose those things just because. He was forced into it. Plus, in general his philosophy isn't perfect. Humans natural organize into hierarchies and if you want the progress Andrew wanted, total independence and libertarianism is not going to work (still works a billion times better than the absolute joke that communism is) as well as free market capitalism, with minimal government intervention.
You just completely disregarded the fact Andrew Ryan is based on Ayn Rand, a writer of novels about utopian free market capitalist societies. The meta story here never criticises the soviets, goverment nor socialism but instead completely tears down a political philosophy that is hugely influential on the modern USA. The same way Bioshock Infinete tears down US history and American exceptionalism. I think if you do not mention this you are missing what the writers made the story and these characters about.
@@hagonistheman7880 I strongly disagree. Bioshock was a game like any other by a competent developer when it was first released back in 2007. Its the re-interpretations, the continuous probing by fans into how and why Rapture is what it is that put it on the same tier as Half-Life. You proved that. Instead of being focused on libertarianism or really any structured message, you've given the world and its characters your own spin.
Well, it wasn't Ryan. It was Atlas, Fontaine who destroyed Rapture! That was the twist of the game. And history note: Jews didn't leave Rusia because of comunisim, they leave it because they were were persecuted by the Bolshevik revolution.
If don't don't know anything about history , you definitely shouldn't pretend you do. The bolshevic revolution was explicitly Jewish. The reason they started to flee was because starvation was rampant and desperate people started to target the insanely wealthy , so the wealthy left with all their stolen wealth. Do you think it was just coincidence the Churches and Christians was the very first ones attacked while the synagogues had the full protection of Stalin's army?
It was literally both of them. That’s the point. Ryan would rather destroy what’s his (like his forest) than share. He was an authoritarian who had to control everything. Even his lovers. Of course Rapture fell
It was Ryans ideology that allowed Fontaine to do what he did. Ryan was the one who decided that there should be no regulation to make sure a drug is safe before selling and marketing it, he was the one that created the systems of power which got abused, he was the one that stomped his feet when everything was falling apart and insisted he's right and everyone else is wrong rather than actually do anything to help.
