This video is part of a series called The Musicians Hall of Fame Backstage - Vault Series. This is a series of video's that were recorded up to two years prior to the Musicians Hall of Fame opening to the public in 2006.
In this video, Al Kooper tells the amazing story of how he found and produced Lynyrd Skynyrd and how they rose to fame.
Previously, the band recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio where they recorded many of the same songs that they rerecorded with Al Kooper but were not released until after the tragic plane crash.
While with Al, the band recorded and released Free Bird, Sweet Home Alabama and more. Listen to the end to hear how they started opening for The Who.
