Joe Go, back in the 90s, my sister lived in San Diego and she said the police were looking for a suspect in a white pick up (I don't remember the actual color). They saw a white pick up in a parking lot and opened fire on the driver killing him then found he wasn't their guy. They never bothered to find out if he fit the suspects description or gave him an opportunity to identify himself.

@@carolusrex5213 As a person who uses those regularly, I can truthfully attest that those damn things will start a fire almost every time they are used. Most agencies don't use them anymore. Turns out they have cost much more that they're worth. In property damage to innocent peoples homes to wildland fires. We use them to light backfires (technically called backlighting) to burn fuel in a fires path. You just throw a dozen within a kilometers worth of dozer trail or logging road ( just something to use as an anchor point) and the winds generated by the fire will blow the flames towards the main fire. in doing so the backlight will burn all the fuel that the approaching fire needs. That's how you stop a fire in country that's straight up and down using obsolete weapons from police departments.

Very good point. I would add that the police in this case made a choice to kill him and deprive him of due process. That's the dangerous part, they could decide that about you and it would be game over for you.

From stories I heard before, 'authorities' try to find any reason they can not to pay out rewards...I guess it depends on who is offering them but it seems like every instance I have heard they never pay out. For instance, the wording was '1 million dollars offered for the capture of Dorner', but he was never captured. And they pretty much knew that he wasn't going to be. He was a cop killer, if he didn't kill himself, they would have killed him even if he surrendered.

It was a manhunt, me and my friends were rooting for an officer to put him down - to do the one thing you didn’t really see of homicidal shooters. Back then they all would normally take their life when they did all they could to harm. So my theory was that the officer in question was conflicted. He wanted vindication, the entirety of the force wanted retribution but at the same time he couldn’t give false hope on what was obvious. Dormer got cornered... and shot himself.

can anyone with an understanding of law explain to me why someone who is so heavily trained could be allowed to be hunted by simple police officers, why wouldn't there been a deployment of special forces members who are literally trained to the extreme to hunt down specialized targets. Surely a special forces team would have had a much better chance of taking him down, than say, police officers who deal out tickets. Why then were police sent out instead of special tactics either on military spectrum or even police side. There are special tactical divisions in the police department so if there is a sighting, send them out, they should have been on call ready to go. But I just imagine if they would have been able to drop a team of 6 special forces members into that man-hunt, it would have been over.

I actually got curious about that and checked it out! The site looks the same as in the video but it's complete shit. Every section you click you get a pop-up asking you about subscribing to their newsletter. Two of the sections lead to the same About page, which has a paragraph of the most repetitive sentences I've ever read. They basically say the exact same thing 3 or 4 times in a row. One section is called "secret forum" but it's locked behind a login. It was probably different at one point but regardless, it's currently a dressed up graveyard. I looked at their facebook page and it's pretty much a halfassed noticeboard for missing people alerts and feminist-esque inspirational quotes.

In ONE of the cases of mistaken identity, the cops fired at a blue Toyota Tacoma. Dorner was driving a gray Nissan Titan. They fired over 100 rounds at the two women, partly because they supposedly confused a newspaper hitting the floor as gunfire, and also because they confused their own gunshots as gunshots coming from the Tacoma. Only two of the over 100 rounds found a target, both striking the 71-year-old woman in the back. The other woman suffered injuries from the BROKEN GLASS. The women received over $4.2 million dollars (from taxpayers) while the officers involved in this completely incompetent display of policing received additional training. That's it! No suspension, no firings, nothing except additional training--presumably so that next time they shoot at innocent people, they'll hit more of their shots instead of missing. Trash police officers. The lawyer representing the cops said the decision to not file charges against the cops was a "wise decision." Trash lawyers, too.

He shot himself in the cabin because the police used 'burners' to light every side of the cabin on fire and there was no way to exit without catching on fire.

To play the devil's advocate, i could argue that: the same could be stated about the innocent people shot by police during the chase - that does away with some kind of "moral" (or legal for that matter) attack BY cops. . Joining the aforementioned folly is the fact that the police decided to burn Dorner alive with pyrotechnic tear gas (the same type of ordinance used by to burn the 76 Waco inhabitants to death) which illustrates that by that point law enforcement had thrown professionalism and law out of the window. they were mad and like Dorner before them, ready for some sweet vengeance - judge and jury be damned! If one analyzes where dorner was cornered (in an isolated cabin on a frozen mountain), violence of this magnitude was not really required. Like bees, they were just riled up because somebody had taken a baseball bat to their hive. Law enforcement could have literally just posted a couple officers to wait him out - he'd eventually have to sleep or simply freeze to death inside the cabin. an aside: i hate it when the death of law enforcement is considered a greater crime or tragedy then the death or injury or normal civilians in that police chose their line of work in the same way that soldiers do. They want to be deadly situations. they want to risk their lives for the perceived greater good. in the same way that soldiers are most often treated as statistics (as unfortunate as that is), the same should be done with police fatalities. Finally, a direct response to your post. First of all, one of those two individuals WAS an officer of the law (a different type of officer to be sure but still representative of the entity that Dorner viewed as oppressing him) . second of all when one is seeking to punish others or inflict cold-blooded vengeance - then the spouses and children of the individuals whom Dorner perceived to have wronged him quickly became fair game (i.e. civilian casualties of WAR). I don't say this to excuse but rather to explain. When one is fueled with murderous rage it becomes difficult to analyze their actions and rationale from a "normal" point of view and thus one cannot technically fault Dorner for one murder over the other. Finally, it makes more sense to kill your enemies' daughter then to shoot BLINDLY at two unrelated innocent women because you thought they were a giant black guy.

Agora he could see him as a betrayal to other black Americans. When I was K9 one of my best friends was a black officer (I know haha my black friend joke) and there were several times where he was screamed at and told he was betraying his people and deserved to be killed with all other cops. It’s awful, but that line of thinking for black officers is very prevalent today.

@Deus I don't disagree with you that cops kill innocent people, but that you're ignoring that a black man would gun down an innocent black man for anger he had towards a Chinese man, something you didn't address, really shows you're more okay with killing than justice. Which is where I begin to disagree with Dorner, it's never okay to kill the innocent, especially if you're a cop, it sullied the justice he was claiming to seek to again, gun down an innocent black man, a member of his own race, for anger he had towards a Chinese man, let alone to kill his daughter who herself had nothing to do with this. Why didn't he go after the father instead? The man responsible for his anger? So what's your defense or are gonna try to defend murder of the innocents like a scumbag?

That would explain how this allegedly highly-qualified guy ended up accidentally shooting himself in the hand and being described as a sloppy police officer.

Is it the same for the Navy as the Army though? Because I know Army and Marine Corps vary differently with the MC having their first second and third awards and stuff.

In all fairness, he did earn the marksmanship ribbons with expert device so he did in fact have the best qualification.
