My second home during my school years. Nothing beat the atmosphere of a midweek game under the lights, kicking towards the London Road in the second half. We should have stayed - there was never a serious consideration given to a redevelopment. Luton showed how it could be done - we should have done the same.
I miss The Manor ground. So many happy memories with my Dad on the Beech Road terrace and juniors club. I hope we can eventually resolve the issues we have with the current lifeless stadium & either purchase the ground or move to a new home elsewhere.
Thanks Chris and Martin. I've only been back once (last year) and it provoked lots of memories for me as well. Quite rightly we had to move but it was our home and I felt at home there amongst my friends.
Same here bro I stood on the left side as a kid into my early teens and so many memories of the ground and I can still hear the chanting especially Swindon ... All stand up if you all hate Swindon. I'm from Barton west but live in another country and I miss the manor and still have a shirt my Scarf hanging on the wall with a Headington utd scarf great times and a cracking ground sorely missed never bettered ... We are the left side London road
Great character and atmosphere at the Manor Ground, that is distinctly missing from the new stadium. I used to stand on the Osler Road Terrace, right beside the pitch, you could almost touch the players when they came to take a throw-in. Happy days.
Yes times gone by my first game floodlight friendly v Notts County home 1959 draw 2 2 some great games let's hope the stadium gets sorted in the near future 👍
Given how long we've had to cope with a unfinished stadium with zero character I'll expect an improvement in decades not years unfortunately Whilst we remain tenants of the snake I can't see it happening 😕
I remember first going in the 60s , best memory was 2-2 against Man utd when Bobby Charlton got the second with a great header for the draw also Arthur Turner the manager would not go to the dug out he would stand next to the changing room door and Ken Fish would sit in the dug out.
Bring back the Manor ground its our home our right and our club end of story we want our ground back in Headington ok Kidlington will do its just down the road and name it ...The Manor ground nothing else will do its our heritage and give us a proper London road no seats just terrace
I've said that for years we should have rebuilt the manor bit bigger n bit more modern not too modern but safe cos the old manor was getting rough but we all had great times there I remember watching the legendary Ray Graydon in our shirt and he could take any defence apart I hope the new ground is called the manor ground it's ours always has been always will be Headington born but live in another country n when I'm back it's a pint over the road walk up to the old entrance off to bury Knowle park n head back to where I stay I really miss Headington and the old manor ground seen them all there till I left Left side London road no better place to be win lose or draw we were all one on our terrace no one else's
