It's wonderful the two mansions in Newport have survived!

A table for 200 guests? Wow, you would need a telephone to have a conversation with someone sitting at the other end of the table. 😉🙂🙄

I feel like those occasions would be so tightly choreographed that it would be bad form to take part in a conversation with anyone more than a few seats away. Otherwise, the room would be a roar! Doesn't sound fun to me, but then again, I don't even know 200 people.

Wow! Imagine having SO much money that you have an incredibly luxurious mansion, and you only use it for a few weeks in summer! That rococo ballroom blows my mind, it is huge! Makes me think of ballroom scenes in old Merchant-Ivory movies. Great presentation. So glad 2 of the mansions survive.

They both are Incredibly beautiful. Different taste and style but absolutely breathtaking...thankfully the heirs understand what they have and they are well cared for. Thanks again for sharing

Amazing that one of the houses is still in the family. Imagine the traditions in that home.

Great video Ken. I`ve never heard of the Goelet brothers but Ochre Court was my favorite. Thank goodness Newport had enough sense to keep the mansions and not demolish them like New York City did.

I'm not sure if the university still does this, but they allow(ed) you to tour the first floor of Ochre Court during the summer months if you ask politely. Now all that is there is the magnificent original architecture but not the furniture. Still worth the time. Excellent video.

Southside was nice, both inside and out! Ocher Court looked more like a museum inside! Congrats on the sponsor!

If you ever get a chance to vacation in or near Newport Rhode Island in the summer, it's fun, relaxing, and beautiful. It's fun to tour the mansions, and the cliff walk is a beautiful stroll. The beaches are great. What a dream it would have been to live in one of those mansions on the ocean dancing in the ballroom with the gentle seabreeze blowing through. If you love Calamari, it's the freshest. I used to have a place in Rhode Island. I miss it.

For me, Southside, is McKim, Meade and White's refined relaxation at it's finest.

Another great video, I would definitely prefer living in Southside. Delightful to see they are both still standing. Interesting that the video was sponsored by the VSA, I believe their Newport Summer School includes a tour of Ochre Court!

I've always loved Southside, because it was Shingle Style. You can (or could) see it from the Cliff Walk. I loved the rectangular decorative panels on the seaside facade. I guess because Ochre Court is owned by the college, I wasn't really aware of it. I also love the Victorian Society in America, and used to be a member.

These elegant old mansions are works of art. Too bad so many of them have been demolished.

I use to live on Bellevue Ave. These houses were my neighbors. I lived in a converted mansion that were made into condos. I miss Newport

It would be extremely interesting to find out how many families of the original builders of these Newport “cottages” were still owned them 🤔

I wonder if Ochre Point, donated to Salve Regina College, is the same house implied in the 1956 film, "High Society." Grace Kelly's uncle decides to donate the house when he couldn't find anyone to buy it.

I guess I don't like wood paneling as much as I used to, it makes the rooms look so heavy.

A STRANGE MIX, BUT TO BE EXPECTED I WOULD SAY!!!!!!!!!! THE THREE KEY WORDS IN REAL ESTATE APPLY IN MANHATTAN, (DEMOLITION, DEMOLITION, DEMOLITION), WHILE THE PRETTY PLACES OF NEWPORT, WHICH SHOULD BE DECLARED A DEMOLITION FREE ZONE IMMEDIATELY, HAVE BEEN PRESERVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
