About 30 years ago...i took my then girlfriend to memphis to see graceland as she was an elvis nut. We stayed at the peabody. The ducks were great, and the hotels location near Beale Street was convenient. Overall, it was a fun experience. Excellent bbq and live music.
There are traditions that are outdated, ones that are meaningless and ones that are plain out pointless... this is not one of them, it is one that is simply pure joy and in that case that's all that counts :D
I stayed in the Peabody Hotel in 2019 and got a big hoot out of seeing the ducks and ducklings march to and from their fountain after breakfast time! Lovely hotel and even better tradition caring for our duck friends!
Was such a neat experience seeing this in person in 2019! Will never forget it! Had such a blast in Memphis, blew fraud ass Nashville out of the water!
I remember reading about this in a book when I was a kid and thinking it was just a fanciful story someone had made up. If I hadn't seen this, I would probably never have believed it.
Ducks: "And these humans come out en masse to watch us climb out of the pool and down a red carpet like it's some grand occasion or ritual. What a strange species they are."
The ducks are raised by a local farmer and friend of the hotel. They only live at the hotel for 3 months before retiring back to the farm where they continue their lives as wild ducks while being replaced with a fresh batch.
I saw the morning episode, where the ducks came off of the elevator and were marched into the fountain by the Peabody Hotel duck keeper back in 2007-2008
No, the ducks love it. They are very well treated. I've been on the roof where their penthouse is, the ducks are only allowed to perform for 3 months and are then placed in a duck preserve., due to their not being able to survive on their own.
@@jimclark6256 I'm not talking about their living conditions. I'm talking about them made to walk & then swim in front of those guests, camera flashes & loud noises. It's not a normal situation & may be stressful for the ducks.
The smartly dressed attendant only highlights how badly dressed the guests all are. Only Americans would be unashamed to be seen out looking such a mess.
I make this happen daily without a rich hotel and ole Memphis money. I make a pond and call my 🦆s with my mind. I bring this to da hood. Wild ducks in the M. I’m better than you richers at your own game. Quack quack. Just to play with your heads.
@@vinculaomega5283 How is he not cringe? The overexaggerated gestures and the conservations with ducks. I mean, this guy is literally talking to fucking ducks that don't even notice him. If that's not cringe then it sure as hell is pathetic.
@@dishonored6116 I bet you're the kind of person that explain to kids how Santa isn't real. No fun allowed! It's an old-style luxury hotel. They have traditions. I bet you he's not the first duck keeper to be eccentric. Most animal owners speak to their animals. It's completely natural. It doesn't really matter if they listen or not. But these ducks are clearly trained, so some sort of listening is being done. But, please. You stay in your little misery hole while the rest of us appreciate traditions and silly fun.
@@vinculaomega5283You completely misunderstood the point. it’s not about the fact that he is talking to animals. I talk to my cat all the time. It’s the fact that he is doing it in a goofy and cringeful way in front of a huge audience along with the gestures. I’m assuming you agree with this because you are someone who acts like him. The sole definition of cringe is extremely embarrassing acts that make it hard to watch. Considering I have a few upvotes, safe to say a few people agree with me in that assertion.
@@dishonored6116 If it's part of the daily routine at this hotel, the hotel's claim to fame is specifically their ducks and the tradition around it, and you know that going in, how can it possible be embarrassing? Are circus performers also embarrassing? Or maybe the theater actors? It's a show. Not meant to be taken seriously, but lightheartedly. It's supposed to be silly.
@@iLiekLemonade Ehhh, that's a convenient deflection from what he's really saying. What he's saying is there's nothing wrong with taking an entertainment job seriously, but you could *also* hold back being a cringelord when doing it. There is such a thing as too much. The ducks are adorable here. The guy is indeed a bit much. But hey, you *are* one of those that throws out "you must be fun at parties" level normie comments LOL.
